The Ultimate Dormammu Thread

The only use of empty Liberation assist I’ve seen is from FChamp utilizing it in his Magneto corner combos.

What do you mean it forces a unique air recovery? I’m pretty sure Liberation doesn’t force neutral air techs, but I’ve never checked the assist version. That would be a pretty huge discovery if so.

0/0 Libby (Matter Disperse) has a few uses, moreso if you use teleport characters while backed by this. Wesker, for instance, has some pretty evil setups (gun loops, just frame air throws off hit recovery, even L Teleport xx Lost In Nightmares crossup works). Is also a GREAT get off me assist with the proper timing, and helps somewhat for projectile spam (Morrigan).

Liberation is actually my primary Dorm assist, it’s pretty open-ended and helps for a variety of matchups.

…plus I consider Inferno to be Top 5 assist in the game (sets up WAY too much bullshit over the course of 3 seconds).

I was very happy that Dormammu won the EVO grand finals. He’s a character that I love and I would very probably have mained him if this game didn’t have SO many great characters that have excellent main potential. That was good for the Dread Lord!!!

Lol, well since they recover at normal-jump height BEFORE they touch the ground, I figured that counted as air recovery…

Sure, but you said a “unique” air recovery. The word “unique” is what had me puzzled.

Did you miss what happened after Evo 2011? Winning Evo isn’t good for any character.

You mean the Phoenix nerf? Well, Niitsuma has said no more patches, and most importantly, Phoenix was Phoenix. xD

Hey, would it be cool if I could write up something to add to the guide? Specifically, notes on Nemesis/Dormammu for the assists section?

I guess it just seemed more unique then others I’ve messed with like purification or cap’s stars and stripes as they are so much higher when they recover. Sorry if that was misleading

All 6 characters in Evo 2011 grand finals got nerfed. Tron and Haggar had their assists butchered, Phoenix had the entire game changed for her, Wesker had a huge nerf to his gunshot and Rhino Charge (some might argue he’s better now, but I disagree), Dante got more damage scaling and a nerf to The Hammer, and Wolverine had Berserker Slash gutted. A lot more happened than that to all of these characters, but the point is that winning Evo is not good for any character. Capcom says a lot of things about their games.

Please do, I encourage it. It’s a ton of work just testing this stuff for me.

I dig. I thought maybe the assist caused a neutral air recovery. I’ve never thought to test it, so the idea was semi-plausible.

I know someone on the tier or stream thread and was at EVO mentioned that the NorCal scene was calling BS on Niitsuma and that the game will eventually be patched at some point. So, what happens after EVO 2013? Nerf the characters in GF of that year too?

It’s hard to imagine them nerfing Nova and Sentinel. How much more does Sent need to take?

When he activates flight, he has a chance to explode and kill himself and yell MISSION FAILED

IMO, it’s hard to imagine Dormammu nerfs as well. That doesn’t mean they won’t happen, haha. Who knows when a patch will happen, and under what circumstances. I was looking at the history, not portending the future.

Legs break off sometimes, has to spend 1 bar of meter to Repair.

Speaking of history, I still remember Seth Killian was hyping Dorm’s changes for UMvC3 at NYCC 2011. I think he has a fondness for Dormammu and also Doom (given his hidden tech talk from Vanilla and mentioning his MvC2 form in his article on spacing). After all, they’re both space-controlling characters. If anything, maybe we should thank him for providing input for Dormammu, helping to solidify his place as a EVO champion, and perhaps suggesting a Dorm/Doom combination for those who like to zone in UMvC3 (if he did provide input, that is).

Yeah I remember S.Kill talking about how he loved chipping people to death with Dorm, throwing out stalker flares before the incoming character touched the ground in Vanilla. Thank you based Seth for the buffs.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but what exactly do you mean by “neutral air recovery”?

He has been open about his love for Dormammu. In fact, pre-release when he did demos, on 2-3 occasions he would hover over Dormammu’s icon and mutter “Oh Dormammu, how I love you” in a disturbingly lustful manner.

A neutral recovery doesn’t allow you to tech right or left. You have to recover in place. Dante’s qcf.HH does this, for example. If you could force an opponent to recover in the same spot with an assist, Super-Skrull would instantly become top tier.

recently he posted on twitter that there is alot more creative room for lockdown keepaway teams that people havent discovered yet , im beginning to think that this has to do with Dorm and morrigan meter gain assist.

Right. But you know, something tells me that Capcom wouldn’t nerf Dormammu at all in that eventuality. In all fairness, Capcom does have some logic behind their nerfs for MVC3. Lariat and Gustaff Fire were both Hail Mary assists, so that’s why they decided to nerf those. Not saying that I agree with those nerfs, just that there is some logic to them. I mean, they actually made Tron bottom tier with her nerfs. Haggar, on the other hand, got even better despite his nerf. Wesker and Wolverine WERE gratuitously good characters in MVC3, and heck, even after the nerfs, they are still both top tier. Dante didn’t get directly nerfed: it’s just that the new damage scaling mechanics got to him. Magneto and She-Hulk weren’t in the finals, and yet they got nerfed. What I mean is, the nerfs probably had more to do with theoretical balancing rather than with the characters getting to win EVO. I don’t think Capcom have set their sights on automatically nerfing any and all character that wins EVO. Especially since Dormammu is a pretty well-balanced character, and a technical one, too.

Good news is, Niitsuma already confirmed no further patches, not even to remove the glitches and the infinites, so leave your mind at ease. xD I think that the only consequence that winning EVO is going to have for him, is just having more attention and respect drawn to him.

Most of the people in my pool seemed to be unfamiliar with Dormammu so they kept on getting hit by Dark Matter xx M. Teleport. Also they couldn’t deal with the incoming hard-to-blockable using Flame Carpet.
