Probably replace Akuma with someone like Ammy or Dante. I can’t imagine Dorm without long-range crossups. Hell, Dante’s Weasel Shot is like a pseudo-beam assist.
Stick with Ammy because Dorm can get three dark spell charges when cold star is guarded. If you are fast enough, you can get up to three mixups when they block, like tri jump j. :l:, c. :l:, superjump :h:. Also, a block string like :h:, :f: + :h:, teleport will keep her safe.
I dont see my name on this list! it should be! My videos will teach you how to do massive damage stylishly with dormammu

I think i may have discovered a new dark matter bnb with dorm … i may upload a video soon. basically it consists of doing combo into dark matter , then justin wong flight up down to catch them … but this time i found a way to go into MHS jump loop off of that anywhere on screen, and i find it much more easier to hit this then normal jump loop off DM.Jump loop connects twice also , and does more damage then the original teleport combo.
And from the video thread;
I mean this in the nicest way possible… You’re looking for recognition, (ie. people talking and showing interest in the content you provide), but you only get that when the quality of the content in your videos is good enough. You can’t force people to like it by posting it until you get a response, posting it multiple times on the same board and even making a new thread for it.
With that being said, the vid is interesting as a combo video, but the majority of what I saw was massively meter inefficient and unoptimised stuff, making it a bit less interesting to watch, and most of the technology is pretty old and known about; the possibilities shown aren’t new to anyone who’s been playing Dorm for any amount of time, who are the majority of people who make up this sub-forum, sorry.
Anyway, just how liberal are people when zoning in using a meter for Stalking Flare? Unless I’m sitting on 3+ bars I probably won’t use one unless it’s to DHC Dorm out or if I really need to slow the pace of the game down. I feel like any frame and space advantage I might have is sacrificed if they can get to the ball and quickly block it at a reasonable distance from you, because the options you might like to use from that position are more risky because they’re generally slow.
Then again my team isn’t specialised in zoning particularly which means that getting a Flare out doesn’t allow me to set anything up like a string with assists as they don’t really give me that utility. So what do people generally get out of releasing a Flare besides the chip and the tempo slow down?
I don’t use stalking flare honestly outside of safe dhcs because of how good chaotic flame is. When zoning, many people tend to press buttons and so I use chaotic flame to punish . It does slow the pace of the match though. Maybe I should use it more…
I seriously hope this gets Dorm pros to start using the Dark Matter combos as their main combos. I’m very much looking forward to your video and incorporate what you will show into my Dorm gameplay. Though I find the teleport easier than Justin Wong’s flight and then wavedash.
Well if you need to learn all of the things dormammu is capable of check out my vids on youtube.
The point I am trying to make by posting these videos is that if you ever see a dormammu in a tournament they only play keepaway and dispite the fact that the combos i do take a lot of meter its still useful. just use dormammu for that purpose, on my team i build meter FOR dormammu and unleash it when i switch him in most people say that my combos are impractical but id say i get at least one dark dimesion on someone per fight due to my play style. i just like to explore what characters are capable of if you can’t do it in a match its not my fault, practice more.
After watching a lot of Dorm vids, I’m really convinced that the position for Dorm on a team is second for many of the reasons stated above. I want to have a X / Dorm / Doom (probably beam) team. Who are the best candidates for that first spot?
I can think of Wesker or Dante as good point characters for that team if you’re using Doom Beam.
I’m probably going to run a 2nd Dorm team with Dorm in the middle. Dorm should really only be played on point if you have Tatsu/Lariat/AA Gamma Charge to clear some space. I don’t know how MastaCJ manages to get freaking space sometimes with Dorm sometimes.
Also, Dorm/Doom “Armageddon” (2C1D Liberation + Doom Missiles + occasional Stalking Flare) might be as good as Morrigan/Doom’s “Bullet Hell”? I’m starting to think Plasma Beam is a bit overrated.
After played a lot of matches after watching NCR, I think I’ve decided (finally) on a team.
I’m going to put Taskmaster on point with Dorm/Doom in the back.
But, what assist should I use for Doctor Doom?
Plasma beam can provide cover for shield skills and initiate Dormammu’s teleport mixups.
Whereas missiles can lockdown for keep away. I have always used missiles on my Doom teams, but I’m wondering if plasma beam could benefit this team more.
Thanks!
I’d take Dante over Wesker for a Dorm/Doom shell, only because Wesker likes an assist to help him control the air. Both can make use of Dark Hole though, so either is still recommendable. An even better option would be to put Doom on missiles and run Magneto on point. He can combo off of Hole easily and is good at covering delayed assists - plus you also get a beam if he survives! Scary stuff…
Missiles or Beam should work for Task/Dorm/Doom. The beauty of that team is that you can switch Tasky’s assist to cover whichever plane Doom’s doesn’t. Task-γ/Dorm-α/Doom-α and Task-α/Dorm-α/Doom-β could both be really good, and possibly even matchup-dependant. It also depends on whether you’d rather guarantee Dorm horizontal or vertical coverage, which comes down to preference.
I’m thinking of making that team as my 2nd team or possibly my main keepaway team. I would go for Missiles personally. I’m also thinking of DHCing into Dorm with Stalking Flare to give him space and advantage to begin his zoning game.
Task/Dorm/Doom is a very good team. I think missiles are best for Task although plasma beam works perfectly fine too, missiles just have more utility overall as they can be used to extend combos and to play Task’s zoning game.
Thor/Dorm/Doom is also a good team. It gives Thor the best assists he needs, Dormammu can get his teleporting, rushdown, zoning, and combo extensions down if he’s on point, and Doom just rounds it out with his great assists.
Dorm/Doom works behind everyone, even big body characters. Hulk, Nemesis and Haggar can all be put at the front of a dorm/doom team.
I thought against a Hulk player from Portugal who was doing 1mil via DHC off an airthrow thanks to dark hole assist.
lol @ that part ^
The crux of my post was that the people who post on the Dorm boards know about the fancy stuff he can do, same as any other character board. It’s not hard to explore various options with him, it’s just that in any game, people only give a crap about the combos which are:
- Fully optimised to the max potential, building as much meter as possible while spending very little, and:
- Deal as much damage as possible while remaining practical for a human to execute close to 100% of the time (the execution bit isn’t really too applicable to this game though), and;
- Leave you in the best neutral situation afterwards, and;
- Viable from the hitconfirms you are likely to get in a tournament match
People (i.e. the ones who play in tournaments and want to win) don’t care about flashy combos doing 2 mil with XF spending all your bars and starting with circumstantial setups < It’s not because they’re hard (Dorm’s execution is piss easy) it’s because they’re inefficient and generally the kind of stuff people find in the first month by just exploring the type of things the character is capable of, and in most cases that kind of flash doesn’t help unless that is genuinely the character’s best combo in terms of the factors I listed above. I like the creativity of your vids, but the combos are pretty useless compared to more efficient uses of spells and meter.
So you are saying that you would rather just watch me to a fucking wall bounce air combo over and over agian every week saying look how easy this is and it does average damage with a meter and surprise puts you in the corner just like everything else in this game oh and it looks like all those other combos in that list of links on the side of the screen there. chances are you have already seen pretty much all of his ‘practical combos’. and besides you might just not understand how mindgames work or the fact that one of my most flashy combos is also one of my easiest and most deadly that can be done with no meter for over a million damage corner or midscreen. either that or you and the rest of the haters are a bunch of doom wesker playing unorigional sons of bitches. im sure its one of those but if it isnt then get a ps3 and fight me if you really wana see some shit. also did you say first month and piss easy? LOL id love to see you hit a stop watch and try to link 6 stalking flares together in under 20 mins in 1 combo without copying me i dare you. not to mention if you enjoy even one of my combos you could just take a piece of it and work it into your unique strategy, and besides if you can read then you know that obviously most of the combos in these vids are not for match use i just happen to like the character and want to push him to the limits. i for one got sick of watching everyone and their fucking grandma do the same fly unfly corner combos or just run away and use hidden missles while you do purification but then agian i think FOOT FOOT DIVE is gay too but whatever. i guess no one cares about the cool aspect of this game. just like every other fighting game everyone is obsessed with doing whats cheap as long as you win. im just not that kind of guy, and my videos are for people like me, not you. so no disrespect i just dont agree with you at all. but if you are saying you dont want me to post here anymore because you think people won’t appreciate my combos then i really dont care tbh. im obviously not interested in those people either.
I’m not saying you should stop posting here at all, by all means work hard and contribute knowledge and strategy to help others, but you can’t go around posting stuff multiple times which most Dorm players will likely already know about and have played around with themselves, and then expect them to be shocked and amazed, giving you instant kudos and recognition when really you’ve not found anything more than a variation of what’s been done before.
Fair enough, casuals and people who don’t play the game seriously might love it, and if you’re going for that then job well done, but it’s not really new to people who’ve had over a year to explore the character and his possibilites. If you attend a tourney and showed people your stuff, the top calibur players will probably have already seen it or something similar to it.
I don’t usually call people out on stuff and I’m a very chilled guy, but the way you went about posting your stuff on here just irked me a bit, sorry about that. Still, I woulnd’t talk about things being cheap in a game like Marvel, it’s paradoxical! But yeah, let’s leave it at that as I’m away for 2 weeks as of tomorrow.
Anyway, back on topic, I went to Scotland for Hypespotting this weekend and oddly enough, over all 3 days of playing I only played 1 other Dorm main and he was from Ireland and very strong. The mind boggles that I didn’t see more considering how strong of a character he is. And playing that much against so many strong players confirmed, to me at least, that 2D1C is in fact the most broken thing about Dorm.
