So where abouts will the touny be, just so I can tell a few friends and see if they can go?
Weird thing though, anyone remember dynamic league?, i would post alink to their site but their domain now hosts a porn site so…kinda reflects what happened to the whole organisation. Too bad, felt like it had a lot going for it, not enough support. Silly thing is, people were complaining about lack of resources, i.e. not enough TV’s, machines, consoles yada yada but were not willing to plough any of there own cash to support the whole idea. Plus, the main guy who set the whole thing was open to all suggestions as well, wouldn’t turn an idea down. Ultimately, it’s demise was inevitable i suppose, due to lack of funds. Money is the root of all evil i tell you…
p.s. i’m back!!! after a 2 year hiatus, it’s good to be back.
questions & answers will be on that site from now on…
Haha I remember that, I think I only ever went to one (that was when it used to be held in casino on goodge st). That Derick guy used to get an awful lot of stick from people, especially for his commentary…
hiya people. i also live in soton too (been living here for about 14 years now)
i remember the times when they had x-men vs sf but i wasn’t particularly into sf at that time. i was later on mostly playing with house of the dead, time crisis 2, and then initial d later on. but now i can’t really find anything i like playing there…
i still remember a time when they had a street fighter 3:1 machine ages ago for a short period of time. but then again i couldn’t execute a super fireball at that time.
only if they can get a 3s machine in, i m sure that would be much more popular than some of the really old machines they have there.
p.s. have u been to the internet cafe called starbytes, next to southampton institute? (not the internet cafe above sega park) i been there one last year and apart from the online gaming they do, they had an xbox and ps2 there where the xbox was connected to xbox live as well. i was wondering if they might have 3s available there…do u know anything about it?
Could someone please elaborate on what Dynamic league was, and why it failed? A lot of UK people are trying to get some sort of scene together, myself included, so I think it would be useful to know what went wrong and why. I’ve never heard of it before. If it was as it sounds, a league, how many people entered it on a regular basis?
where to begin…
Dynamic league was a ranking system for arcade fighting games. It was organised by a man call derrick linch. It was good idea or so it seemed and pulled in about 150+ people every dynamic leauge which was once a month, but the ranking system was flawd and all the money that was made in these ranking tournaments was not put back into the arcade instead it was pocketed by derrick and when new sticks and buttons and games needed to be bought there was no money to buy them…and in the end derrick did a runner with what little money he had made and dynamic league came to an end.
But I will say one thing about derrick he might have been a cheat a theif and a liar…But he brought people to the arcade.
Anyway cornertrap.net is on the comeback and will soon be running tournaments once again…so stay tunned sports fans!
(lied cheated and stole from all gamers and your making it sound like thats ok)
funny thing is where r these so called 150 people now staying in there house cos they dont trust people now…
but things will change soon enough
Last time I saw Derrick Lynch was on my way to work about a year ago. He was wearing a cowboy hat at around 10am (honest to god truth)
Isn’t that the black guy who used to appear on gamesmaster all those years ago, DD used to just take the piss out of him all the time
Hi i am ShengLong aged 23, male, live in northern england for…23 years now. In my spare time i like to keep fit by running from the police. My job is to train dolphins at Knowsley Safari Park and have been doing so for many a year. I also like playing the old video games such as Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, which i love ( i can do a c.lkx3 XX Super with ryu!). I will be holding a tournament in my bedroom for all games and for free ! so feel free to come along to my place !
shaggin sheep in wales isnt good enough for you anymore eh ?
thats right. he would never pronounce my chars name right when he was ‘commentating’ my match. but thats a minor problem.
wasn’t just his commentary, kis touched upon the start of the troubles. namely the question of where the actual money was going, and such. the rankings and way the rankings were produced wasn’t even explained…
Ok, so did Derek Lynch own the arcade at which the league took place, or did he just organise the event at Goodge Street with permission from whoever owned it? 150 people sounds like a lot, was there even any room to play lol? How much did he charge for entry and what was the prize money on offer before he ran off with it?
The reason I ask is that I am exploring the possibility of putting a few cabinets into a place thats local to me (North London), with the idea of making enough money to tie the place over with tournaments and so forth. I heard Absolution charged like 20 a game for entry which if you ask me is at least 15 too much, so I am interested in how much people are willing to pay and how far they are willing to travel in order to get good regular competion.
Let me know your thoughts.
I went back to london last weekend and visited goodge street since my brother lives near there. Might be just me but the sticks were as horrible as ever and call me crazy but isn’t kof neowave supposed to have 5 buttons? I saw 4
Well, I hear EVO only charges $15 per game entry and $20 for entering in the tournament. I’ld say a tenner would be a fair price per game, 15 would be seriously pushing it.
I’ld be willing to go anywhere in the country as long as I had a mate to go with, the money to go(which I have saved up ready to use) and a decent clear description where it’s located. I realy need some competition, whether I do good or not. Also aslong as a decent amount of people are going. Lack of competition would be a letdown.
demon dash I have to play you at 3s. I live like 20 mins away from you!if you need some comp let me know. and did you find anything out about cgz or whatever it’s called in town.if a tournie goes ahead and has 3s(*) I need some practice against decent players!!
*it doesn’t look like that many people want 3s…
HHAHAHAHAAH was he saying CHEF CHEF CHEF!!! to?
Dude im guessing you were one of the victims and got riped off what i dont get is how 150 plus people can get riped off without doing anything about it
And what happened to you all? i dont know what abs was like but ive never heard of a tourney with over 150 people in the uk surely everone would of heard of that.
the problem is that this country doesnt have a big tourneys like evo. they are all little ones which are ok for your local area but nobody else will be really interested in traveling unless their feeling lonely.
looks like this Dynamic league messed everthing up.
I haven’t been into town desk, I’m a bit skint at the minute. Sorry mate. My giro is due in a couple of days so i’ll be going over then.
Having machines is a good idea, But having them in north london is not such a good idea since players are not willing to travel, and right now 3s tekken 5 and alpha 3 are getting lots of compitition in the london trocadero so there is no need to travel.
Now that everybody has got used to the back to back machines even if there was a place that had more games and was cheaper i don`t think the players would travel because the back to back machines are the best set up ever!!! and there is a good vibe in the arcade.
Hey bill_rizer I ran the league. If there was any robbing going on i would have known about it lol.
The scene in london is not any worse than it is in america…if Anything its a little better here only we don
t have as many local tournament as we should.
America has one really good tournament a year and its called evolution. I would advise anybody who has the cash to go to next years evo it
s a great tournament. Anyway The UK has had lots of tournaments better than any of the evolutions or B-tournaments. Including tournaments like the tekken 3 and tekken 4 world tournaments…the 1994 super turbo nationals which had 500+ players thats when st was at its peak in london. Euro 3 which was the rebirth of street fighter in the uk.. so it
s not all bad if you live in london. Even absolution was an ok tournament I mean any tournamwnt with Daigo, bas, Izu, Ino, chikyuu, and rf to name a few is a good tournament and it was a very exciting time to be apart of the uk fighting game scene.
And for that week thats what it was all about…playing the best and well it just does not get any better than those guys.
These tournaments had world wide tv coverage from channels like sky one, sci fi channel, bravo, channel 4. I went to evo last year and they had one shitty tv station that nobody watched. In the uk when a big tournament happens tv stations cover it. I dont know why they can
t get tv to cover evolution since it`s a great tournament and more of a show.
But I mean what else do the players in england want ? We have an arcade with almost perfect controls on back to back machines…I Don`t know any arcade outside of japan that has machine like the ones in london trocadero. We have semi regular tournaments, and about one big tournament tournament a year. Has anybody been to the US ? I have and the arcades are crap and they play on shit sticks and buttons… and nothing ever gets fixed.
Anyway you guys need to come to london or if you live in london come down to the arcade once and a while and be apart of the scene…because you might turn around someday and it`s not going to be there.
