The UCLA thread

3s tonight? 8-ish?

N - Edit: Fine, I ain’t going.

I’m going this friday night to Westwood to play some MvC2 and some 3rd so if you guys show up then that will be good. I will play some Tekken 5 if you guys are down for too.

anyone down for some 3s tonight at 8:30pm or 9ish pm? My damn internet just started to work.

i should be showing up around 130 tomorrow between classes

Who wants to come to UCLA for some CVS2? Someone needs to smack down “angry white guy” (C Vega / Blanka / Sagat), although he will probably leave after you beat him once.

I am rusty as hell but still up for some good competition.

Fuckin seconded. If only we could beat his Vega easier…his Blanka/Sagat isn’t as big of a problem.

That dude has a top tier nose. Outprioritizes everything.

slam “C’mon!!!”

It’s not like he’s all that great, just whores some simple yet effective pokes and tactics. The main problem is that he leaves when you beat him, so once you’re on a roll he goes away. In his defense, he did get smarter, I used to bait him to low fierce with sagat so I could nail him with chun’s s.strong xx super. Now he uses s.forward a lot more often, only uses c.fierce when it’s in range for the most part. I also used to empty jump straight up to bait vega’s slide or blanka’s slide to land, block, and s.strong xx super again (or s.roundhouse xx super with cammy). He caught on to empty jump straight up, and he now uses that tactic himself. Sad though that his main tactic with sagat is still roll / throw, or roll / lv2 tiger raid, mixes it up with some crossover short, poke (tick) throw.

This guy should be a snap for any good player, I just happen to suck with reaction time so he still gives me trouble.

I played him about 5 times on Friday morning and was able to beat him twice. I decided to just turtle up as well and pick and choose my times to jump in on his Vega. It’s easy enough to stay on defensive crouch at times against him since C groove has no small jump. If he tries for the walkup throw then stick out some fast poke like cr. short or cr. jab. Also RCing anything if you think he’s going to poke seems to work pretty well, not to mention it’s pretty easy to bait him into doing a wakeup super.

Just attack his Vega a lot. Doesn’t matter how much damage you take. Vega does crap for damage, so the risk/reward is in your favor…unless you’re like Nakoruru or something. Just get that one hit into super and it’s all good.

Everyone plays A-Vega here in SVGL. It’s quite annoying.

I can beat him pretty easily imo. I think his weakness is that he doesn’t respond well to mind games (hence his physical abuse on the machines). So what I do a lot is throw set ups. He’s very vulnerable to throws. E.g., If I’m using kyo, after I knock him down, I’ll walk up and start c.lk, c.lk, c.mp, qcf+p. Then after a few times, I’ll just walk up and start throwing him (he doesn’t react to throws). Then after that, his game usually just falls apart.

enjoy.

Oh ya, has anyone actually had a conversation with this guy? He’s actually really nice…no seriously. He has like a southern gentleman type of personality. It confuses the hell outa me.

I’d have to agree with Ronnie, aside from the curse words and attacks against the sticks, the dude is really nice lol.

Really? The first and only time I talked to him, I told him that he should use Ken’s standing RH more and he screamed “DONT GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS. IF I WANT ONE, I’LL ASK FOR IT.”

Then he started using s. RH more…

LOL… well no one’s as frustrating to play against compared to Yumi. Yumi thinks everything in life can be tackled like chess, from video games to poker.

Re: the angry white guy, yeah I finally talked to him today to tell him “you’re good practice because you’re very hard to beat” … and shook his hand (ZOMG) to introduce myself. I guess he wasn’t pissed off this time since he just took away a good number of victories from me.

I think I understand him… he gets pissed off because of internal struggles, like when he thinks he can pull something off and he fucks it up, that is frustrating to anyone.

Hey guys

I went to x-cape for the first time today at around 5pm and I was disappointed by the lack of people in there (there were about 5 people there). The only competition I had was playing against a good hugo player in 3s and only one person played me in cvs2 but he wasn’t very good . What are the days/times when competition is around?

Thanks :karate:

Guilty Gear people (and CvS2 from what I’ve seen behind me) tend to be there 12-1:30ish on a daily basis, minus weekends.

Yeah X-Cape is pretty dead from about 5 PM till closing generally. Typically on a weekday between 11 AM and I’d say…about 4 at the very latest if you want to play 3S or CVS2. It’s hard to say how many people will be there at a given time since most people usually go between classes and whatnot, so it’ll be different from day to day. Fridays, however, tend to be packed during the day with random kids so it’s pretty crowded in terms of breathing space sometimes, especially since the arcade is somewhat cramped to begin with. Weekends are almost always really really dead though.

If you say ahead of time you’re coming for 3s, a few people will show up.

RC when can I expect to see you at UCLA? Haven’t been smacked down by p-groove for quite some time.
