I can’t wait until PC #R goes online (guy is actually addressing the lag issue :D)

CvS2 is stupid. Even more stupid than Animeband. It’s all about the ghetto tricks.

At least you have an arcade. NOTHING is out here in the Chicago suburbs. Nickel City is an hour away, so that’s a strictly business trip. I’ve played casuals with a serious player all of once this year.
Define “ghetto tricks.” I think in OG SF, all peeps had were ghetto tricks. You know, no intarwebz0rz to X-copy from.

Ghetto tricks as in you only hit them with it because they’ve never seen it before, or you induce them to do something stupid just because they’ve never seen that before.

Like

Empty jump tigeruppercut/throw/tiger raid. I actually beat Ken once just by empty jumping and uppercutting then empty jumping and throwing :stuck_out_tongue:

Learning not to do a low attack after a tech throw against a P groover.

Faking fireballs to induce people to jump or roll.

C. Fierce anti air with shotos then dash and throw as they land, because 80% of the time they roll.

Tick, whiff stand jab…low short/rh! Everyone knows the tick whiff throw trick, so you get a free counterhit as they hit buttons.

Jump straight up rh overhead with shotos, land and uppercut to cancel ground recovery. I get hit by this a lot.

Roll into super/throw. Everyone gets hit by those once a game.

Chun li walk up pretend to throw and then hit c. strong instead and if it hits super. Everyone gets hit by that at least twice.

Stuff like that you can only learn from playing a lot, but if you haven’t seen these tricks before, you’re just going to lose to them until you’ve seen them ALL. Which is why CvS2 is starting to be stupid to me, because I haven’t adjusted to SVGL play :stuck_out_tongue: (favorite trick of late seems to be kara whiff normal that moves you foward into shoryuken)

At least with #R, you KNOW what stupid BS each character is capable of after playing only once.

It might just be me, but I didn’t see T5 today.

Another CvSNK2 accident, er, trick is to take the hit of a jump in that connects too early then do a reversal. I kind of feel the same way about 3S that Yumi feels about CvSNK2. I’m going to be losing A LOT to those mind games.

3S is just build meter then super or c. foward xx super. Fun to watch, but dumb to play IMO  What happens in between the building the meter and the supering part is almost irrelevant.

Right, ghetto tricks - stupid (your favorite word :razzy:) shit that shouldn’t work, but does. So CvS2 with its six grooves and 1983247031298 characters has more ghetto tricks than others? I can see that. GGXX with its 21 characters already has plenty of ghetto tricks, probably because the scene is spread so thin here in the US. If I’ve never played a certain character matchup, it’s all new to me. But some ghetto shit is alright IMO - it’s what gives the players something to shit-talk and laugh about to keep the game entertaining. Besides, ghetto tricks are what win the big tournament matches (at least the first pool). People from different states playing strangers - ghetto is your key to victory! Otherwise, why would people sandbag?

The T5 machine was out for tournament purposes, this according to the local mech (who’s name I should get one of these days). It was already back by last night.

On a related note, the smaller “second cvs2” machine has been replaced with Zombie Revenge. Don’t let the “NEW GAME” sign fool you… the game is from '99, but they just lack the appropriate panel art . Quick genre overview: like a 3D Final Fight with handguns as standard.

Busujima is top tier.

Well yeah… if you suck.

Yeah, you still have the ability to react to your opponent’s offense in 3s (except in a few situations like guessing against a makoto). That aspect of it is left out when you say it’s all about leveling up and linking into the super. Playing solely for the super will kill you a lot of the time cause you’ll be playing so stiff, unless you’re a good chun.

Situations in 3s are more clear cut, leaving much to be determined by how quick you are, so you can’t play stiff or rely on just a few tricks. Yeah, there’s that random factor with parrying and stuff like that, but that just makes the game better imo.

But I understand cvs2. It’s like you have to memorize a set of books to know some of the stuff. You take all this time to play a rigid and calculated match. Just watch someone like mago. And since the matches last relatively long (3 chars), you don’t really have many outs against dominant and abusable tricks and strategies.

marvel, 3s, cvs2, ggxx reloaded… all good games, all take specific skills.

marvel died again at ucla, not even lunch time ppl go as much anymore (including myself)

sup everyone

Where exactly is the arcade on campus? If I was visiting on a weekday, where should I park? (OR should I even bother?) A link would be awesome.

Is the arcade open next monday? It’s not a big holiday, but one nonetheless.

Thanks!

I don’t go to UCLA no more because is too far of a walk so I go to Westwood now but anyway. Why don’t UCLA players come to Westwood during the weekend. Friday and Sat. I go there. I play almost any fighting game…except TK5 but I just started to play.

Some of you guys went to Westwood for the MvC2 tournament but I don’t remember their names. Anyway, if you go to westwood arcade let me know when so I will show up there(specially for MvC2 or 3rd)

ima be at ucla arcade tonight anywhere from 6-8, ill be playing alex or dudley in 3s, or xiaoyu in t5.

Any tekuma, id go to ww arcae but i got banned…yeah

Marvel crowd goes randomly during the school week during lunch hours (12-2PM). I stopped going as much, dunno about the others.

UCLA players dont go there because we’re not hardcore players… like dont go to arcades in free time, only during lunch to kill time. And I heard about that WW tourney and who won it… props to AWG

If u lost to that guy during that tourney, you should enjoy the majority of the lunchtime comp. at ucla… but there are a ton of complete noobs that play as well.

Hope that helps, I’ll post if I plan to go during lunch sometime.

The arcade is on the A-floor (physically the 2nd floor) of Ackerman Student Union. It’s pretty much in the center of all the ucla buildings. Just go north on Westwood Blvd until it ends and you’ll be right in front of it.
http://www.parking.ucla.edu/parking/parkmap/parkmap.htm (it’s just to the upper right of lot 6 on this map)

Parking on weekdays is pretty bad, you can buy parking for a day for $7 or use metered parking at the rate of 8 minutes/25 cents. There’s street parking along Veteran Blvd to the west of the campus near the cemetary (except from 4-6pm and on street sweeping days), but it’s pretty far (20-30 min walk).

I don’t know if they’re open this monday, they probably are, but that’s just a guess.

Hmmm, I didn’t know westwood arcade had tourneys. Good shit to the notorious AWG. How’s the 3s comp over there?

I’m still not sure why anyone goes to the Westwood arcade - nothing works, and even if it did the damage is on low and that screws everything up. They never fix ANYTHING…

Mike Z

I’ve never been to the Westwood arcade, but I have to say that Xcape is really good about fixing things. Controls don’t go ignored for too long as 2P in XX was only broken for about 4 days. CvSNK2’s 1P’s Fierce button is fixed and one of the MvC2 machines got a graphics makeover.
