The turtles reward

lulz i was playing this total camper noob online one day and i was only like 11-12 moves away from checkmate, but this stupid camper kept moving his piece out of the way! i was like, come on you stupid noob, let me get your queen already! but this idiot just kept not letting me do it!! so i started rushing my other pieces at him and next thing i know that stupid camper killed me, all cause he was camping like an idiot!! it was so frustrating i quit on that stupid moron. havng to think critically and strategically and finding a way to force what i want to do on my opponent, in a strategy game??? no thx.

so whats the difference between turtling and zoning?

This.

I turtle against Sakura, and I honestly have to. Every and I mean EVERY Sak player I’ve played in G2 on the PC version seems to have the same strategy(against Ryu or maybe everybody), which is to use crouching fierce if you jump at them and pokes if you try to get in footsie range. Not that they won’t attack, they will if they score a knockdown. But if they don’t they’ll try to win with this strategy alone.

When I’m facing a Sak player, I try to read her to see how she’s going to play. I may even jump in recklessly and take damage just to collect information. And if the player plays Sak the way others do, then I have to zone and turtle quite a bit to find openings because I can’t just rush them down since they all seem to have a decent/strong defense.

I dont like to turtle. I main Rog (Boxer) and some may say that hes a turtle char and the best way to use Rog is to turtle a lot. His mix up is quite too good to not use it and most players in G2 get nervous when they are under pressure, which leads to stupid mistakes. I am happy when a shoto throws fireballs all the time —>Ultra meter for me from FADC, Super meter from HB at max range and a big smile on my face because he gives me the time to taunt him. :shy:

Thats just my opinion and thats the way I have fun whilst playing.

UltraDavid wins the thread.

There are ways to set up an offense in SF4 without jumping in, you know…

Yea like teleport crossup.

I used to main Bison and I would have so much trouble with turtles. It was so frustrating especially when fighting Sagat omg. All Sagat needs to do vs Bison is block everything, tech throws and build meter from getting beat on. Then land ultra and turtle or throw a few tiger uppercuts and Bison is dead.

Got tired of all the fucking turtles so I switched to Seth and now I have more fun playing vs turtles even though I get beat a lot since I’m still learning him. I might learn Dhalsim next after I feel comfortable enough with Seth.

If you are having trouble vs turtles try learning another character, you might find another character that fits your gameplay style better.

Heh, you should play a good Seth turtle with Gief. Annoying ass hell.

you’re my hero for today

this is a great post.

i love spacing/zoning wars. it attracts me to street fighter far more than the whole 18 hit fadc combo stuff.

as a guile player i love the mind games with ryu/sagat players as i am always the underdog. they get tedious when it’s just guys spamming lp.srk though.

damn even the japs turtling like theres no tommorow. easy way to make ssf4 more enjoyable, give every character more attacking options. mini jumps, throws only techable if you exactly press throw at the same frame. shit like that to actually encourage people to attack as the attacking party should be in favor instead of the turtle. i fucking hate turtles.

the fact that people can just spam srk on block doesn’t encourage people to attack.

If anything it’s the mentality that you can mash SRK out of block strings that makes me hesitant to attack.

Capcom has made people so afraid of reversals that they’re sort of endorsed a counter-attack playstyle.

yup thats exactly what i meant in my above post.

for example, with guile…i will j.hk, cr.lk, cr.lp, c,mp, sonic boom…but in a 3 bar match the link between lp and mp can be horrible with guile. this is where i usually eat a srk.

so i get hit by the srk once…then i see if they will do it again. i get hit by the srk twice. the third time…i jump in hk cr.lk and then stop and watch them whiff their srk and i get a nice punish.
however, the problem with this is that if they guy catches on that you have caught onto him spamming srk, he’ll start spamming throw on block instead, so when you try to punish his srk again you stop your block string and proceed to get thrown. now you don’t have a clue if he’s going to spam srk or throw.

thats why this game doesn’t support attacking play.

Don’t play online?

Accept lag or don’t play online. Don’t criticize the game because online scrubs mash SRK, it would never work offline.

um…how about this…all they need to do is tighten the reversal window back to how it used to be.

i swear some people just assume that everyone has a local arcade in their country, have 20 friends that play street fighter 4 with to a competitive standard every day and don’t need online whatsoever. i don’t have a single friend who has a ps3, let alone plays street fighter 4 lol! have you ever played the cpu on this thing? it’s a joke.

if nobody complained about the online then it wouldn’t be fixed…and we’d be stuck with the way it is now forever. i need to stop playing anything under four bar matches because chances are it’s not going to be the connection i was hoping for. ono knows that the online isn’t up to scratch which is why he’s giving it major improvements for ssf4.

You know that’s funny because I watched two matches were Daigo does it blatantly a couple times one was against an akuma called Eita. It’s not just a scrub tactic, pros use it too, just with less frequency.

if you’re stuck in a combo, you might as well you’ve got nothing to lose

if you’re stuck in a blockstring, there’s nothing to lose either. it’s not the blockstring, but rather the auto block that pushes in favor of the turtle. lets face it, if a ryu starts blocking low, he can mash SRK shortcut until it comes out.

I don’t get it. I play Sagat, and I’m a patient player. It’s mostly matchup-dependent, though, so there are characters I’ll rush, and depending on the situation.

Most of the time, I’m against Ryus. I’ll turtle like a bitch against them, and try to get into jump-in range. Because dollars to donuts, they’ll jump, especially when I’ve conditioned them to expect fireballs. Alot like to jump anyway. We know what this means. It’s a Ryu, jumping in on Sagat. Can we say ouch? :dp::lp:, and maybe they learn, but more often, they don’t. Trades are usually in my favor, since I’ll follow up with :r::hk:, then either :qcf::2k: or :qcf::qcf::3k:. Rarely, with no meter, I’ll just :dp::k: after the trade. Knockdowns are fun on Ken/Ryu, because the really horrible ones will just DP and allow me to beat on them some more.

Against someone like Abel, I know he doesn’t have any wakeup game to write home about. When I score a knockdown, I’m getting in his face. Same with Gouken, except meaty Tiger Knee is free, screwing his one semi-legitimate threat (Counter) over.

I just respect the skills of the opponent’s character, and play accordingly. To do anything else, well, that’s just dumb
