I think that since Phoenix and Wolverine are two of the most popular characters outside of the game that they deserve to be extremely powerful.
What does popularity have to do with characters being good?
If that were it, 90% of villains would be terrible and the other 10% would be literally insurmountable.
Spiderman is as popular if not more popular than Wolverine and yet he’s mid tier at best.
If you are talking popularity, no he isn’t. Quesada pretty much split his fan base in half, and it hasn’t recovered. I worked in a comic book store, and Marvel was cheating their spider-man sales. Amazing Spider-man released 3 issues a month, and they would calculate all three of those issues to boost the numbers. While ASM is in the top 10 of marvel, it is because of 3 issues a month. ASM wasn’t nearly making the money after OMD going monthly.
But besides the point, this is a fighting game, popularity should never dictate power. All characters need to be equally balanced (for 3v3 that is in this case)
i absolutely HATE time out victories. as such, me and my friends play with the timer off. so there goes that strategy.
The problem with Phoenix is you’re playing an entirely different game if she is in the match.
I think in order for the mvc3 community Umvc3 seems like the right choice even though too early. Probably the move that capcom wants to make, make a broken fun but frustrating game fixed in the next edition. Props for viscant winning (i didn’t want him to but oh well). I really liked the team. It’s like Richard Nguyen’s phoenix team but Viscant had solid combos, had the mix ups and his haggar had more red health. Also, wesker is good as a back up anchor and has tons of health.
Everyone in Umvc3 is getting the nerf stick. Not just phoenix. Developers are coming in with a different idea in this game. No more Dhc trick or xfactor level 1 kill.
Anyways. I have to kind of disagree about X-factor nerfed in UMvc3. Xfactor Level 1 is definitely nerfed but Xfactor level 3 is Buffed. Yeah they nerfed it across the board but X-factor level 3 was so powerful that the nerf just made it so that a character dies in 5 hits instead of 3. Although it was xfactor was nerfed, it made level 3 stronger. Hopefully this will change.
I think the anti-phoenix tech is not available for every char. Spider man needs x-factor to guarantee kill phoenix. I think its like a small window to catch her with the throw super. Also, the wolverine weapon x can miss. Justin Wong missed it. I forgot who he was facing.
Lowering her health might be significant. Throws are usually big part of mix-ups in this game. However, throws damage scale heavily. I see some players forget that phoenix actually has health.
I don’t know where the Original post get the quote but it seems like Not nerfing her would make he OP for sure in Ultimate with all the other nerfs. I agree that meter drain is bad though. Unnecessary now that phoenix is introduced. I think in all levels of gaming, whether its High or Low, Phoenix is a problem. It’s worst for causal players because like original post say, ppl do not know what to do. IDk what tech he means besides snap or chip or guard cancel. There’s not much. To me, using wolverine or phoenix is like caveman easy. There simple, easy to use and deadly. Viscant said that using wolverine and phoenix is a must unless u don’t want to win.
As a Phoenix player, I kinda think she deserves to get nerfed, just so I can have an actual challenge when I lose my shit. /nottryingtosoundcocky
I think a good nerf should be three (or two) air actions for Jean and two (or one) air action for Phoenix and give Jean the 25% health while Phoenix has the 75% of her total health
…and most importantly:
Spoiler
X-Fucker.
Then again, we can all just man-up and make everyone broken in UMvC3 to the point Dark Phoenix is Servbot-tier. :3
Obviously none of you know how good of a player Viscant is. There is a reason he was the only Phoenix player people cheered for at EVO.
Dark Phoenix Xf3 is so fast it’s nearly un-blockable. It shouldn’t be that way.
Who can block her during that at better than a 50% success rate? Not a single player I’ve seen.
I’m gonna go out of my way to break Phoenix in UMvC3.
Stay mad.
That’s why they try to sit in the corner so she can’t crossup.
Focus on traps. I don’t think enough Phoenixes do enough with her traps and I’m 90% certain they’re going to be where the money is in Ultimate Phoenix.
wtf ever other character would be irrelevant fuck out of here
This is exactly how I see Phoenix teams too. A part of the key factor to Viscant doing so well was his Wesker + Haggar. His Wesker put much more work in than Phoenix for most of the matches but people seem to be overlooking that.
Wesker is a really good choice for Phoenix and I really feel like learning him would improve my own Phoenix game, since he’s a good character that isn’t meter hungry.
A Wesker with no meter puts the ratio at more like 95/60/180, which /is/ a bonus, but a bonus that I’m going to call ‘good team synergy.’
Well that’s Capcom’s problem. I think it’s a travesty that Spiderman is not one of the most powerful characters in the game.
Perfect balance is a pipe dream, unless everyone has the same moves. It is especially impossible in a game as crazy as Marvel.
Same thing could be said when you’re playing against a Dhalsim
Oh and also I never understood why they didn’t give Phoenix the doom treatment. He could do 3 actions or whatever he does when he’s in the air but if he shoots out the yellow fingers any time before 3 he’s unable to do anything else. Hopefully Capcom realizes this, and makes the change.
I’d love for Phoenix to still be usable in Ultimate. Just give her the doom change + x-factor nerf and everything would be pretty gravy.
Isn’t it already 3 air actions? 2 salty balls and teleport seems to be the main strategy.
I wouldn’t say that she won EVO. Just because she was on Viscant’s team doesn’t mean she was doing the best. His Wesker was doing a lot more work.
