My main thing with all of this though is that nobody was the best in MVC2.
Like was there one character in MVC2 that was the best? If so lemme know cuz I don’t remember hearing people go “yeah so um…Magneto is better Storm who is better than Sent who is better than Cable who is better than Strider Doom who is better than…”
All I remember was teams. Phoenix overall can’t be the best because you have to put her on a team to make her the best any way. You can maybe decide which Phoenix teams are the best but it’s really convoluted to talk about Phoenix in herself as the best when she’s reliant on other characters to feed her and make her the best any way.
A health nerf is completely irrelevant for Phoenix anyway, if you DON’T kill Phoenix off of one touch you deserve what you get when SHE CAN’T CONTROL IT.
That’s just boring. LOL. Now that I’ve seen Dark Phoenix I wanna see if Capcom can figure out a way to balance her while still making her the best if she gets the 5.
Dark Phoenix will still get all her dumb laser line left right mix ups with traps after a first character dies which helped Viscant’s DP clear up teams that didn’t kill her before the 5. That’s pretty much the most broken part of Dark P to this day since when she has 20 seconds of XF3 her combos that can death touch everyone in the game are ridiculously easy to do. If the XF3 ran out faster there would be a bit more time to survive the laser lines of death.
Phoenix has won Evo, CEO, and Revelations. I don’t wanna hear this shit about her not being very good in high level play. Phoenix has literally won EVERYTHING as of late.
I think the main issue is her runaway(sj up back and air dash up back, chuck salty ball x2, teleport.) And that you only have 1 chance to mixup and kill before she can get that runaway in place. While many would argue you should only get one chance(myself included), its still the primary issue people have with Phoenix.
With the nerf to XF3, is nerfing Phoenix’s air actions justifiable? What about Trish, who has a similar style? (Instead of salty ball and teleport, lay traps and dive kick.)
I’d go further to say that, in a game that’s so rushdown oriented, you have characters with actual effective keepaway and that’s whats pissing people off.
edit: For clarification I should say NORMAL Phoenix. Dark Phoenix is an entirely different character and some would argue for what it takes to get DPh on the field, her bullshit is entirely justified.
This. It is however nice to know that Capcom totally isn’t in favor of the scientific method. Like not even a little bit. I think that the system changes shown thus far would probably have been enough to keep DPh from completely running train on people but oh well.
I know this sounds crazy, but why not make her Dark Phoenix transformation cost 5 bars AND X-Factor? Just from this, all the firetrap-chip-to-death shenanigans should stop (in theory). Might kill her usage tourney-wise, but at least the nerf will not harm her viability as a character. Keep the offense, but raise the cost.
Phoenix would be balanced enough with just the nerf to Xfactor. It’s always been about Xfactor. Have you ever had to fight a good DP when she blew her Xfactor early to survive to 5 bars? It ain’t no thang in comparison. The threat of DP is only a threat when she has XF3 loaded, put 2 and 2 together and stop just blatantly hating on a character cause you lost on XBL to a scrub mashing c.L
Honestly, how different would this be if there was never any Xfactor to begin with? DP would be a balanced weight on that team sucking up all your damn meter for not nearly as much of a pay off as it is right now. Right now though, they are just destroying regular Phoenix for what little she had to use to begin with.
