The Top 5 Most Balanced Fighting Games? updated with results so far

T6 is pretty balanced, but Law and Steve are pretty stupid.

Garou isn’t balanced at all (Kevin is the best by far). Also ST is more balanced than HF.

Most balanced games IMO are Arcana Heart 3, SSFIV, Accent Core, OG KOF 2k2/98, Samurai Shodown 5sp, ST, Real Bout 2. Can’t speak about Tekken / VF since I don’t understand them / care about them.

MSH is one of the most balanced fighting games ever made if you didnt know.

OG 2k2?

the fuck

how the fuck is sf4 balanced when low tier characters very rarely place top 3 consistently during major tournaments?

@ least in vampire savior, low tier characters have placed top 3 over the last 4 years in Japan for their biggest tournament. Now that’s balance. Furthermore, vampire savior has been out for 15 years while remaining totally balanced while sf4 has been out for 3 years and can’t even remotely stay balanced.

Typically, the newer the game is, the more balanced it is because people haven’t ironed out all the options. Thats why games like vampire savior should be on everyone’s list for balanced games. For it to be out for 15 years, countless players ironing out options and STILL, the worst characters in the game can get top 3 @ the biggest tournaments available, that’s true balance.

I really care about balance in rush down only games. It’s important that I have a choice between rush down and rush down and rush down.

we know, no need to tell us

Wow, you truly are retarded if this is your opinion of VS.

THIS! You are awesome.

And Tekken Tag Tournament deserves a mention on this list IMO.

not sure if serious

lol no

No matter how you look at it and how you define “balance” this isn’t true.

I do. The point is that comparing favorably to 3S doesn’t really sell that fact. That’s like saying a Ferrari is faster than a WV Beetle from the 70’s.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core.

balance is still balance. More characters can compete in vampire savior than any other SF game ever made.

and its not my fault you can’t see zoning urtling within vampire savior. Maybe you should step your game up?

side tracking, if there is one thing I realized from this thread, its that comeback mechanics aren’t needed to balance out a game. Even though mvc3\sf4 have comeback mechanics as an attempt to apply balance, vampire savior is 100x more balanced even though is has 0 comeback mechanics. Maybe developers need to look @ that fact more.

pretty weird that designed comebacks mechanics which is there to balance out the game actually fuck up the game from a balance perspective. Seems to me that balance is actually within the engine rather than in comeback mecahnics. If every character can approach the fundamental fighting layers effecitively, yet differently to create diversity, then you can actually have good balance.

ST wins. Has 1 more character on the roster than VS. I’m sure that someone who shares your obsession could find me a japanese “major” that all 16 characters in ST have won.

SSF4 wins too. Ryu, Ken, Honda, Chun, Gief, Sim, Guile, Rog, Bison, Sagat, Fei, Cammy, Akuma, Adon, Ibuki, Viper, Rufus, Abel were all shown to be able to compete in the one year we had SSF4. Once again, more than the entire roster of VS.

Let me ask a favor of you. I want links, actual proof, to back up the claim that every character has won a major tournament (not an a-cho weekly) in VS. I genuinely like that game, despite your posts. So I would like to see this. And please, I’d rather not see team tournaments unless there are videos to prove the low tiers carried their weight. Because let’s face it. Helen Keller could win SBO or Evo using Dan in SF4 (any version). That is, if it were 3v3 format. And her partners were Daigo and Mago.

Rankings:
1. Spider-Man - 49.0 wins
2. Captain America - 48.0 wins
3. Wolverine - 47.0 wins
4. Shuma-Gorath - 46.5 wins
5. Blackheart - 45.5 wins
6. Juggernaut - 45.0 wins
7. Iron Man - 44.5 wins
8. Magneto - 43.5 wins
9. Hulk - 41.0 wins
10. Psylocke - 40.0 wins

Of course, we all know that 10-match ranking charts aren’t always
entirely accurate (e.g. ST Honda), but I think this one is, for the most part.

The only thing that came as a real surprise to me was Psylocke winding up dead last. Looking at the chart, however, I would have to say that her not having a clear advantage vs anyone, and having 1-point losses to the top three really hurt her (at least in this type of ranking system).

That considered, though, this chart is a testament to MSH’s balance IMO; other than the jump from Magneto to Hulk, no consecutive ranks are separated by more than one point (and BH, Jug, and IM are each separated by .5). I’m still under the impression that the 1st tier would end at Wolvie, although this chart makes a strong case for Shuma to make top tier. That would put BH, Jug, IM, and Magneto as the middle tier (which is reasonable), and obviously there needs to be a bottom tier for Hulk and Psylocke. Still, I really think there is not THAT much separation from worst to first (9 points, where I’ve seen other Capcom games’ charts with 20+ point separation).

weekly tournaments in japan have more skilled players than western majors.

Speaking of which. Check out the ff. results from some of this years tournaments.

You even have low tiers like Lilith winning!

lol at people acting like winning a japanese 1 game single elimination tournament filled with largely equally skilled players means anything. japanese know those shits are just for laughs.

Stop shooting yourself in the foot.

And if single elimination was such a big factor, why don’t we see mid to low tiers regularly winning tournaments in games like 3S.

er no, it’s been their standard format since the beginning and those condtions made them the best tournament players.

just for laughs would be the “have to change character every round” or “ryu vs dudley” tournaments.
