And yet that is precisely the reason why many consider X-Men vs Street Fighter to be balanced, or how the god tiers in MVC2 are balanced against each other.
But again, you fools missed the point I made earlier and many 3S players have made the same point. You’re playing the player, not the character.
So if joe-schmoe picks Chun Li and you’re using Necro, and you both know the matchup, but your gdlk at parrying and reading, you could easily take it. It’s not like if you’re using Hakan vs Dhalsim here folks.
We’ve seen Kuroda use Q, one of the worst characters in the game, destroying some of the top players in the world. And more recently, Genki, an Alex player has been tearing shit up in the Japanese tournaments.
Basically everything you said could be applied to almost every other competitive game. Because in every game you are playing the combination of the player and his/her chosen character. If you watch a game enough and enjoy a game enough, you can tell which top player is using said character by the style of play, before you squint your eyes and try to decipher the moon runes in the corner of the screen or in the youtube description. Not to get too deep because, your above post has proven that you aren’t deserving of it nor would you grasp it, but just imagine Arcana Heart 3. Real life fighting games, not beating up on XBL mashers, and not trolling SRK (2 things I do enjoy, btw), is a lot like a real life game of Arcana Heart. Ryu with Valle Arcana is quite different than Ryu with Choi Arcana. Bang with Dora Arcana isn’t like any other Bang ever. Chun with MOV Arcana isn’t Chun w/ Nuki, etc.
Also in almost every game if you both know the match-up, but you are Miss Cleo at predicting, you will easily take it. Even if it is Hakan vs. Dhalsim.
It’s not really much of a point when Kuroda eventually gave up using Q at SBO because he wanted to WIN. He went from Q to Akuma to win 2008, but he also had MOV and Ino backing him up. In 2010 he used Ken with Nitto and MOV.
What you are doing here is theory fighting. You are bringing in factors that require people to be psychic. Even then, it does NOT save characters from being bad. Let’s take Chun vs Sean as an example. Chun guesses right and parries, doing 50% damage. Sean guesses right and parries, doing 20% damage. Realistically, Sean has to take several more risks and guesses than Chun does. Parry doesn’t save this match up from being terrible. All you are doing is bringing a big IF factor into match ups. X character can do well against Y character IF they guess right a lot. It’s a very, very poor argument. It’s like saying GGAC is balanced because you can Slash Back (i.e. parry) to make match ups easier… but anyone who would say that would be deemed crazy. Parries give the illusion of balance, and they don’t make shitty characters suddenly good.
I’ll buy the XvSF part, but the MvC2 argument is laughable. Saying “X game is balanced if you only use the top five characters” is a very terrible argument.
This. If 3S were truly balanced. Then we should be seeing Sean winning a few majors or at the very least, considered as a viable character at tournaments - he isn’t. And before you argue that not every character can be a winner, take a look at VS.
Only reason MvC2 get’s a pass from the opposite end of this list (worse balanced games of all time) is the fact that with such a large cast and open engine, we’ll likely never see some of the other characters reach their full potential. But it’s still far from balanced (and should never be mentioned in this thread again).
LOL why are people saying third strike is balanced? Its my FAVORITE iliteration of streetfighter. but Chun,Yun, and Ken win tourneys consistently for a reason. Unless you’re Kuroda.
I’m really disappointed in the SRK community after reading this thread.
If this forum is truly the bastion of the fighting game culture, the name of this thread shouldn’t be “The Top 5 Most Balanced Fighting Games? updated with results so far”.
It should be: “So we know that Super Street Fighter II Turbo is the most balanced fighter. What other games round out the Top 5?”
you can say the same about all the fighting games and their top players, but truth be told, 3s is not balanced, and tiers really matter, you cant deny that the top tiers on 3s have tools/ damage output that overshadows the low tiers of the game
as i said before, 3s not being well balanced doesnt make it a bad game
That’s not saying much (and undersells how balanced MSH was). Lots of things are more balanced than Third Strike.
Which reminds me, I probably should get GGPO running again. Experiencing the balance of VS and confirming how broken 3S was by running Chun all over again.
the point of thread is the most balanced fighting games, and marvel super heroes was one of the most balanced, the thread has nothing to do with sells of a fighting game
But the point is saying that MSH is more balanced than 3S doesn’t really say that MSH deserves mentioning here (which it does), as a good number of fighters are better balanced than 3S.
Tekken 6 is most balanced game now, all characters can win and the fact that skill in movement is the biggest tool cements that because it minimizes some of the importance on character specifics
