The term “anime game” needs to be done away with. “Air dash game” sounds better, looks better, and generally describes more accurate what “anime games” are: fast paced, combo heavy, and have a lot of movement options. The Vs. series definitely fits the criteria of ye olde phrase “anime fighter”, but it’s just better to use “air dash fighter/game” as a term instead.

theres no point in consolidating marvel games into some umbrella term with anime games. sad to say, but the marvel3 community alone is bigger than AH, MB, GGXX, BB, etc. combined.
when I used to go to MB tournaments, more melty players would play Twinkle Star Sprites on the side than marvel2 (none showed interest in marvel2). the players naturally grouped those games together because anime game players play all the other anime games way more than they play vs games.

So in short “anime game” is a buzzword to cover that you are only interested in 1 or 2 specific games in the genre, and not for their mechanics but because you grew up with the cast.
Truth is the “anime crowd’s” real name is “people who are open minded to many fighting games” because among those people (I’m talking about players, and good ones at that, not weeaboo fans of story mode who don’t play ‘competitively’) you’ll find many SF2 fans, CVS2 fans, VSAV fans, SNK fans and even some 3D FG fans. But not as much the other way around. Most of the Capcom crowd are strictly in for local pop culture. They grew up on the SF cast, and they watched X-Men cartoon on TV. Even if Capcom decided to restore an old franchise like Rival Schools or Cyberbots, it will be a hard sell to these people, regardless of their so called “company loyalty”.
But guess who WILL play these games, if they are actually good? The “anime crowd”!

Not even in the slightest, I’m just saying that playing the game seriously in tournaments with Arturo, Sp00ky, and others of the 'old Team Spooky, well I never felt uncomfortable. Ever. We held plenty tournaments for it and Sp00ky even bought the board for it to promote it too. The passion to play others and enjoy the game overshadowed the moe pom pom check my internet history stigma you were so worried about others people possibly noticing.
