The term "Anime Fighter"

Marvel 3 is pretty much an “anime” fighter although there is no definition of an anime fighter unless someone wants to come up with one

In the strictest and original meaning, anime fighter refers to games that derive from anime. E.g. dragon ballz budokai, naruto ultimate ninja, sailor moon S versus, gundam battle assault, etc.

Like other terms in FGC, the way people use the term “anime fighter” nowadays is very inconsistent, and most of the time it has little to do with anime at all. A lot of people like to label games they don’t play as anime fighters in a snobbish way, as if being labeled as anime makes the game less legit, and somehow they are more elite because they play better games. The reality, however, is that pretty much every game out right now can be loosely labeled as anime one way or another.

When asked about the snobs’ definition of anime fighter, they’ll usually give you a mumbled answer that pretty much includes game mechanics, art style, cartoon adaptations, etc. They are also likely to stress that being anime does not make the game less legit, just that they don’t play anime. However, if you proceed to ask them, using their definitions, that whether game X (random games they cherish and play) is anime because it contains the same elements they just described, they will most likely get very defensive.

Seriously, the term needs to die.

To be honest, the majority of fighters are Japanese, except for franchises like Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Skullgirls, etc.

By the way, if people say “anime fighters” are anything that plays like an ArcSys game, then what about KOFXIII? I’ve seen people call that “weeaboo fighter”, yet it’s not an Airdasher.

When describing gameplay, I like to put 2D fighters on a spectrum where on one end you have fighters that have a heavy emphasis on the ground game and on the other end you have fighters that give you a multitude of options in the air for movement and and space control.

When describing aesthetics, I like to put fighters on a spectrum where on one end you have MANIME and on the other end you have mostly fanservice heavy character designs.

Anime fighter is short for “this game could be good buut I’m scared I’ll look like a weaboo if I play it”

if you do a combo in training mode and it sounds like a girl is being sexually assaulted you are playing anime fighter

Anime fighter is what all the Capkids try to deny what the entire Vs. franchise is.

> Anime Fighter is a fighter where it sounds like you are sexually assaulting a girl
> Ibuki, Sakura, Chun-Li

Fuck you forget SF has like 25 Bajillion Anime’s.

If I like it, it’s not an anime fighter. If I don’t like it, it is an anime fighter.

It’s that simple, it’s like the difference between pornography and erotica.

Vanguard Princess is ST with an assist character.

The fact that Vanguard Princess was created by an Ex Capcom employee does not help at all.

On topic. The term “anime fighter” should just die off. I really don’t see what the big deal about it is. About 80% of the fighting games we play right now are, in fact, made with such features. If this was really the case for an individual… then that would just mean they dislike A LOT of fighting games - because that’s what the majority of them consist of anyhow. Therefore, this “anime fighter” thing needs to cease and desist.

I find this font aesthetically offensive, it must be an anime font. Seriously though, I almost TL;DR cause of that font, am I the only one that finds this hard to read?

I want a Bleach, One piece fighting game for 360/PS3 not Wii(lol)

You know, I just mentioned this subject to a friend before, someone brought this up on stream in a commentary, can’t recall who specifically.

Honestly, I see anime fighters as games that are more concerned with the storymode and making “anime,” than the mechanics themselves.

Like Street Fighter gives zero shits about the plot, they just bring out new games for the new gameplay, BlazBlue pumps out games purely for the sake of advancing the story and playing through plot books with the occasional fight scenes.

tvc is an anime fighter

So by your definition, Frosty, GG wouldn’t be considered “anime” since it doesn’t really brag about its storymode, but rather its mechanics, yet ppl call it an anime fighter.

I don’t think your definition works, Frosty.

Cartoons are for kids. Anime is for adults.

Well if I’m playing GG I’m playing a more traditional fighter, not an interactive anime, so in my mind it works.

Please, please, please do not get me started on Vanguard Princess.

Also, lol@ this topic being made on the same night Chrig G and Roku had the most convoluted debate since the last episode of Serial Experiments Lain.

EDIT:Fucking Frosty.

Dude, wat.

Fucking GG has drama CDs and mini games and manga AND FUCKING NOVELS.

What the fuck is Pro Jumper Tangent?

I miss the days where people just played** fighting games. **
