You conveniently cut out the part where I explain one of the reasons why Blazblue is looked down upon. It also tends to put misfit fighters into the game and attempts to force you to take them seriously.

Bang has his own kamen rider theme song, Taokaka’s Astral is comedic, Platnum’s Astral is a affectionate parody of magical girl anime, and there are more examples I am too lazy too list.
With the inclusion of a few more characters, all save Bang would’ve died horrible torturous deaths in fights against the more serious entries in the cast. Blazblue attempts to put pre-teen Harry Potter against Megatron and still hold his own. In a world of justice making sense, Megatron would be making a wish with Harry’s body. Such a world doesn’t exist in BB.

I wouldnt have learned about Melty Blood without the Tsukihime anime series and visual novels.
But really, all that background info was not necessary at all. It just screws your mind even more. Just pick any character you like and play.
Just like with Jojo, it isnt necessary to have read the manga, though I read it much later. It helped me understand the story and make me pick Iggy as my favourite character. But this didnt mean that I had to be forced to read the manga or watch the anime. Mainly because the story of the video game was never so detailed as in the manga, so that you wouldnt understand what was going on even if you didnt read it. Unlike Persona and Melty Blood, though I wouldnt mind playing Persona as well, without having touched the RPG and the anime
It is a mistake to try and promote anime fighters through their TV franchise. One can like the game but not the series, novel, manga, rpg etc it is based on.
Japanese fighters add lately so many story elements that detract from gameplay. While Mortal Kombat did this too, at least it didnt try to be serious. Blazblue in particular abandoned the straight presentation of Guilty Gear and added so many story element that it didnt make any sense.
First present a good game and then try to promote your franchise through it.

Guilty Gear story is both a) there, and b) about ten times less coherent than BB. You just get crapped on by boss I-No at some point and stop caring and no dub to understand what the fuck they’re saying in intros and matches.
But it’s a series that legit killed off two characters from the normal roster and renamed two others for story reasons, then had a big cutscene filled strategy action game sequel, which is far more than BB has done at this point.
At the end of the day we are all fighting game players, we shouldn’t separate or bash a group of players that have a preference.
