Pat I feel ya on that SfxT fucking you up, I was playing Kang with Sev at fight night and kept trying to roll on wake up by holding forward needless to say I was getting my ass kicked for that shit.
edit for mike: I’ll play that T6 again I ain’t feeling Lili in SFxT at all she is 10x more fun to play in Tekken 6 than in this sfxt
Lastly Hwa Jai! How is no body playing this dude he is a god damn monster! I know Abe/Dax tried him but dude’s this guy is insane I’m getting ridic damage at a low cost.
Shouts to Sev for driving to the tourney. The car ride was a fucking blast - you guys (Sev, O, Jas, and Dax) are crazy. Too much fun.
Good shit to Sev for bringing KoF home, sorry I couldn’t do the same for AE, and Jas placing Top 8 in everything.
@O: Hey at least it wasn’t comic book guy … @Dax: You HAD those matches that you lost, just unfortunate small mistakes. You’re getting there man, keep it up.
GGs to everyone yesterday. Losing that first match to Martin really seemed to set me off … I had to walk outside b/c I was so salty. I felt like I beat myself, but that’s okay since I got another shot in Loser’s Semis against him. I also got a nice inner laugh at Arson picking Bison against me - well played sir, but no dice.
@Pat: I swear … playing against your Mak is so much fun. The matches are always so fast. I could tell you dropped a few things, but still man, you have some dirty mixups with her.
@JSparks: Good stuff again man. What’s that like 4 tournaments in a row we’ve crossed paths? I felt like I got way too impatient in that set, but still fun nonetheless. Oh also, the only reason I blocked that bullshit corner setup you did was because you did it to me last time we played and I got hit by it. That setup is still ridiculous. Again, good stuff man!
Chris, Eddie, Jacob, Andrew, Graham, Richard, Jason and the rest of Nashville - always a pleasure hanging out with you guys.
Till next time … maybe I can finally take one.
Miguel is too much fun! That’s who I played with when I dabbled with T6.
@ Josh: Duh. SFxT characters aren’t Tekken characters. Plus that’s an ugly bitch in that game. I’ll play with you whenever I’m around and you know Sev will. Also, if you just wanted to play on other days and I’m free, hit me up.
@ Graham: Ya, Feng is good. One of the easiest characters to learn and start out playing Tekken with. He was my starter in 5.0 for when I really wanted to get into Tekken competitively. He has everything you’d want or need except maybe outrageously insane dmg(but that’s a convo for another day), but he more than makes up for it in other ways. Even Anthony learned a Feng combo and I saw him winning matches lol. Also, I remember you saying you were interested in Paul in SFxT. Paul is a fucking powerhouse in Tekken series. I love dude, but not enough to play him seriously.
I think Miguel is that manly man character to people. If you use Cody or Shen Woo, then you probably picked Miguel, like Squab did. As for Pat, I think this is his roughneck side coming out plus Makoto basically bullies people too. So I understand.
Ya man, not sure if you remember but I played the fuck out of feng when 6 came out. Did pretty well amongst all of the people here playing tekken. Paul is the guy that could sway me from feng though. Feng is really fun but I need damage with my characters. Not sure of it was me sucking but he I felt just too slow with Paul a lot of the time. Any other pointers on characters with pretty good damage or even reassurance that it’s not just me making Paul slow?
Yoooo yeah like Eddie said Marcus, Rell, and Mick are heading back from MLG and I think they might stop through Nashville for games. Marcus hasn’t hit me back yet so if any of y’all talk to him just let him know to holla at me and/or post up if they wanna get games in.
You already know mayne. I’ll get that popping today. Beyond that just let me know what you need.
Yea I remember. Feng has decent damage, it’s just not raw like it was in 5.0 and DR. But he has so many opportunities to create and mixups to compensate. Plus tech traps. I think that’s why he doesn’t get as much as some others off a standard combo, but you could very well tech and get relaunched into another one so there’s that.
Paul isn’t slow. Actually all characters have the same “speed” except for ss, backdashes, or frames on individual moves. Paul has some quick stuff as well as a good backdash sway so maybe it was just that you weren’t flowing well or finding ways to open up people.
Also, all characters have decent damage. Only characters I can think off right this instant who get complaints off low dmg from launchers is Lei, Feng (for people who played him in 5/DR), and maybe Ling? Others are fine.
Good stuff at the Game Galaxy tourney yesterday. GG’s to everyone in KoF and umvc3 (even though I don’t own that game lol). I really need to level up in KoF. Everyone talking about MK9 makes me want to pick that game up again. Anyone wanna play it this coming fight night? I can bring a 360 hard drive with everyone on it except Krueger.
Diff levels man. Depends on how you wanna play. Combos and stuff are the easy part. If you want a bit more, you’ll have to familiarize yourself with some things and a bit of technical stuff. Then past this, is where most people drop off. Because it won’t be so fun for a while. Knowledge based reactions and executing. Even though a few good players say that they know nothing about frames, they do to an extent or just have a really good idea about whether whatever punishes or not. And experience compensates for a lot.
This holds true for mainly any 3D fg, but Tekken does take some work and hitting the books to compete high level. Otherwise you’ll get steamrolled and won’t even know why.
Combos I understand. It is something to do with the 3d plane. I think more because I have more positioning to worry about. Then I do not understand the mix-up options on a 3d plane in 2d you have cross-up, high, low, mid, overhead. In 3d you worry about what side they are coming out of then if they throw you how to tech the throw. I do not understand how to get a hit in tekken either. I normally just wait till someone does something that looks unsafe and by that time I am against a wall getting murdered.I have read and read the Tekken Zaibatsu forum over and over again but something with 3d fighters never click.
Flymike: I stopped playing the game right after you did…last thing i knew is Freddy had some super broken stuff that was “going” be patched but never knew if it happened or not.
Now that people have gotten down to earth, the top tier list is still around the same and logic finally happened and Jax “isn’t” top tier now because one guy won a tourney with him. Still have to laugh about how tier lists changed just because someone won a tourney with Jax, lol…
Because of all the changes made, Kitana, Kabal are still wtf as well as Reptile, Kung Lao is now second tier, Cyrax I “heard” is still good because he has other setups but that’s the thing, the game is basically MK9.1 or something at this point…people are playing it still and it is at EVO, so it might be ok…
Oh, we “do” have the MK9 machine back, just not in the arcade…I’ll see about getting in here in a week or so…
Whenever I played, at least with Feng, it felt like there were different levels of whiff punishing, fast, medium, and launcher, and that a lot of my hits were quick lows and other solid moves like his b+4, ff+2, and df+1. He, and a few other characters, are like King in KOF, people think “well that’s a low damaging character” BULLSHIT the damage comes from getting in those smart, tricky, and well planned hits. You get little chunks of like off strategically and quickly. The hardest and most challenging level for me in Tekken was getting up well and blocking lows when getting up and throw breaking. Friend of mine played and just threw over and over again and I felt like I had no way around it.
You got highs, mids, lows, special mids, special lows, tracking moves, moves that may track better in one direction, counters, parries, grabs, crouch grabs, ground grabs, unblockables etc. Of course when starting pressure you wanna think about if opponent is ducking, sidestepping, dashing, attacking(with what),etc. so you’ll have an ideal of how to approach. Then if you do throw something out, whether it hits, whiffs, blocked( whether its plus, negative, neutral), etc. This sounds all “duh!” but point being that it won’t hold any weight until you actually start playing game. The info and talks before will just fly over heads.
I’ll play it with whoever next time I’m there. And I might hit up an MLG for it if I can get some heads to play again. Somebody told me Baraka was top tier now. And I had forgot that Baraka was on this game. Completely. Dont know how true that is though.
Basically you just gotta know your characters and the characters you’re fighting. Feng always had great punishment and “get the fuck off me” moves that stop bullshit. So, if you used a poking style with him, you prob did profit. To me, Paul isn’t about poking and molesting people with tit tat shit. He punishes hard, but he has power hits into knockdowns. From the knockdowns he mixes up, or picks up for float combos. Then he just creates out in the open. Combos. Standard stuff, it’s just that Paul is about ending matches quickly because if he’s on, that’s what happens.
Oki, getting up, and defense are a whole other thing. Besides what’s guaranteed, people will go for resets or other stuff in certain situtations. Matches are like huge mindfucks. People see juggles but it’s about how guys are getting those off. Trust me, none of this stuff will make much sense until you actually get a bit of matches and understand the system and what options you have at what time.
