This is a good test to determine how strong your connection is and if it is possible to play people out of coast with the connection you have. The sad part is some people blame others for the quality of the match played. When in truth the players just maybe too far from each other or one of them has a bad connection. Also truth be told, wi-fi is why PSN is not as good as live. Please people do not use wi-fi. Just because you get 100% of the signal does not mean you get your full possible speed. :annoy:
The biggest problem in the new online age is many players don’t know how to forward ports, turn off all other PC’s and be hard wired. The patch comes out on Thanksgiving and I thought this would be a good way to get prepared. The patch probably won’t improve online much but maybe these tests can show you places you need to improve in.
I tested mine twice just for kicks. The second time I got lower ping, higher jitter… but they were pretty close.
I noticed it says this: “Expect all internet applications to work very well assuming you have sufficient bandwith.” How does that work? How do we know if we have sufficient bandwidth?
I thought my connection would be shitty cuz people had been kicking me out of rooms as soon as I joined… shrugs
So how are people doing this? Like, are they just going with whatever test server is given to them (IE: their closest server) I would think hand picking a server further away from you would yield more realistic results, unless you only plan on only using online to play with people near you.
and even then what does it matter if I have a good connection between me and some pingtest server. Like, great, fine, whatever, I don’t care. What I want to know is how is my connection between me and my opponent.
Actually, what I really want to know is how is the game’s netcode going to handle inevitable poor connections. And I guess with the way recent fighting games have been, how is the game going to handle good connections.
If you’re posting on SRK, you most likely have more then enough bandwidth to play any online game. Assuming your bandwidth isn’t getting bogged and/or shared by other stuff/people. (And assuming said game’s netcode is designed properly.) What really matters is speed, which doesn’t really matter, since you don’t have much control over that.
(says me, who spent most of his time in his network class sleeping)
Pfft 90% of the people here are grade A. No one needs to get on your level KK.
BTW we all need to get on ejdge level.
Sadly what this is proving is that T6 probably matches us up with different coasts more often. Or probably matches us up with nubs playing on wi-fi who knows. It seems that everyone so far at LEAST has a decent connection. On a different note, poor matches on T6 will always be poor. Expect to see just as many red pingers as before. The patch is just going to improve green bar matches, man we need some GGPO code for real.
