The System Mechanics Thread

Ahh so the crouching state means jump won’t work. That’s what seems to happen to me, always get thrown after a low guard. How about low parry to jump, would that work? This has been a big help, aku. Man, it seems you would need to be jumping for the entire match against Makoto!

It’s not that it won’t work, but crouching state just means it takes slightly longer to jump.

Yuuki told me that low-parry to jump can actually be used as an option select. Tap down and quickly jump.

  • If the opponent doesn’t do an attack, then you can just super jump out.
  • If the opponent does attack low, then the jump won’t come out and you can punish them. This also works by parrying high.

(This is off the top of my head so I may have left out some indepth stuff regarding this, but this is the general gist.)

There are certain things opponents can do to attempt to counter this option, but if you’re just worrying about tick Karakusa setups, then try this out.

And yeah, quite a few players tend to jump around a lot against Makoto because of that grab. One plus side is that her defensive game isn’t exactly the best, so once she starts sweating, things can get pretty bad if you get the momentum going against her. Just watch out when she gets a meter and near the corner though.

Awesome, thank you aku, appreciate you taking the time to explain all this.

So looking forward to the sf3:OE, practice mode alone will be worth it. (Dreamcast has been long packed away).

Dumb question I’m trying to verify: Is Hugo’s 360 (Moonsalt Press) completely invincible on wakeup? I’ve always assumed it was and I was thinking of messing around with Hugo.

sean can roll under

Nope. It just has a really fast startup.

so im trying to test what combos do and dont work on which characters.
and i was wondering if you guys know whats the minimum amount of characters | hitboxes you need to find out if it works on all the cast or just unique hitboxes.

ie:if it works on ken it works on shotos.
if it works on yun it works on yang.
then makotos dudley and chuns weird hitboxes.

or do i need to go through everyone?

You forgot Oro. He probably has the weirdest hitboxes in the game.

can someone who knows alot about the juggle system PM me?

i have some questions

Ask here?

There was an intense juggling thread. maybe it was just a post in this thread though…

Somewhere it exists, search function or just go back like 2 pages it should be somewhere and pretty obvious.

okay so im trying to make this logic step.
dudley (against any char)
c.HK, walk forward, c.LK/c.LPxxSA3 //works fine
c.HK, dash once, c.LK/c.LPxxSA3 //works fine

what im trying to do but feels impossible is
c.HK,ducking(recover), c.LK/c.LP

it feels like the c.LK/c.LP should hit based on height & timing from earlier steps but it just whiffs.
now im on a ps2+MAS stick. so im wondering if theres something about whiffing the ducking that would make the opponent unjuggable(?) OR if the c.LK/c.LP needs to be done just as ducking is finished recovering aka is it the engine or my assecution

I just did cr.hk ducking cr.lp sa3 against another Dudley, probably just your timing is off

well i’ve only tested this on makoto so its my timing/makoto i guess.

appreciate it VERY much thanks <3333

Characters bounce differently so it may be character specific ^^;;

This is just bad information. There are not more pre-jump frames from a “crouching state,” and even if there were, you would still avoid any grabs, since pre-jump frames cannot be grabbed. (as was discussed in this very thread multiple times)

Oh, my mistake then. Sorry about that.

Just confirming, I checked the Wiki too, but retards refuse to believe me: Necro’s SA3 isn’t safe on block from midscreen, right?

Still need an answer for this one. Also once and for all (and I’m going to link the replies from here) are the Shoto’s (all four; Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sean) SRK invincible on wakeup and cannot be interrupted by a meatie? I know what the answer is, but I swear to god all of the GGPO nubs refuse to believe otherwise.

They all have invincible frames. It’s just none of them really have enough to get around good meaties, unless you use ex. Sean’s can be thrown out of on startup though, so his is just straight up garbage.
