I think it looks pretty cool. Any menace portrayed by supes is interesting to me, simply because of who he is.
It looks better than this:
Bullet Dodged: What Burton?s Superman Would?ve Looked Like Spinoff Online ? Covering TV, Film and Entertainment News Daily
The problem is that use determines value. Anytime any artist wants to make Superman look tough, they cover him with lots of extra lines (scary shadows) and color his eyes red (ooh, scary!). There’s no effect, because portraying Superman as menacing should be the nuclear option–for use in extreme situations only.
Anyway:
Criminy, Earth One is bad.
I realize I’m extremely late to it, but I just watched the Superman/Batman: Apocalypse movie. That was fucking amazing. That is how American animation should look like. Both in character design, backgrounds, and fight choreography. Speaking of fights, those were a beauty to watch too.
I gonna have to buy some of the other DC movies and see if they’re as good as this one.
Yeah the fights were great! Can’t wait to see what they do with All-Star Superman. Obviously they won’t be able to get all 12 issues in one animated movie but Morrison has said that he’s happy with the end result. Looking forward to it!
The only thing better than that is the director’s dedication to the fans.
Remember fellas, when you make a porn parody of an iconic symbol of pop culture, you can’t cheat the fans. There is to be no cutting of the corners here.
Wow, can you even begin to imagine Brainiac sounding like Buzz Lightyear?
On a somewhat related note, fuck Kevin Smith.
Did someone say Jim Lee?
I will watch it out of good faith in both the source material and the guys making it, but I’m not getting my hopes up. Here’s hoping they at least do justice to issue 10.
Was I that transparent?
Well yeah, I only like it as I stated “When you know Superman is about to open a can of whoop ass” Good example for me is the DC Universe trailer showing the dark future, where Supes is all pissed off and full power with the red eyes. He proceeds to rape before Kryptonite decides to sneak up on him yet again.
It only really has an impact when used in such a dire circumstance, otherwise it comes off as a way to ignore his usual personality and use it for the sake of having Superman look “Cool” like he otherwise isn’t or something.
Also I like Jim Lee’s art >_> Post obvious Haters gonna Hate image here
Hold up, lemme drink some Haterade.
Jim Lee’s art absolutely ruined Azzarello’s For Tomorrow story. The tone of his art completely contrasted with the tone of the script. Jim Lee should stick to drawing posters of musclebound hulks and big-breasted Amazons in fight scenes because he has no skills at drawing two people having a peaceful conversation for three pages at a time. Just look at how he drew Superman talking to the priest in those first couple of issues. Count the number of panels where Superman has two clenched fists while having a conversation. It’s unintentionally comedic.
I also think Jim Lee messed up Frank Miller’s All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. I think a lot of people misunderstood that series by taking it at face value when it’s actually a comedy. The problem is that Jim Lee didn’t realize it was a joke. He took it seriously - thus, he draws everyone just like he normally would. Can you imagine if a good artist, like Kyle Baker or Miller himself, had illustrated it? That comic would be much better. (And probably on time, and not on extended hiatus. Jim Lee also killed Morrison’s Wildcats after the first issue.)
The only times a gritty Superman with red eyes ever looked right were in Azzarello/Bermejo’s Luthor and in For the Man Who Has Everything. (“Burn.”)
Zephy knows how to keep it real, alas I still like his art to an extent, even if what you said makes complete and total sense.
Zephy’s just mad.
He does have the best rants here though, and I usually find myself agreeing with him more or less.
Plus he hooked me up with a fair few comics, so I am obligated to agree.
All-Star Superman Omnibus out yet? I feel like dumping a paycheck on greatness.
It is my sworn duty to play the role of the hateful, angry, curmudgeonly uncle of the Comic Book Forum. Clinty and V.Slash haven’t been around much lately and P.Gabby isn’t pulling his weight around here so it’s up to me.
P.S. - Fuck Deadpool.
Hope it’s a biggun. The Absolute Edition drops on the 9th.
Also, Snyder has confirmed that Zod won’t be anywhere near his movie.
Nice, pretty much an early Christmas present to myself. Will it be around the same price as the Captain America Omnibus or more expensive?
Cool about Zod I guess, at this point I just want to see Brainiac.
why do you hate me so much? You do know that I moved to the city right?
P.S earth one was great.
Jim Lee officially owns you mother fuckers. Red eyes and all.
Jim Lee draws like Rob Liefeld with a basic awareness of superhero anatomy.
I think you might be on to something there. I don’t know if Miller can really do humor all that well, but I certainly miss his work. However, in fairness, I think he was more guilty in making the book late.
You took the words right out of my mouth. It goes a bit beyond that, but they’ve both been in the same stylistic void since 1992. Hell, probably even before that.
I swear, sometimes I’d love to sneak into his studio while he’s working, slap the damn pencil out of his hand and scold him for hours on his excessive cross-hatching and exploding muscles.
