The Super Mario Maker thread - March 9th Update: Keys Finally Found

(I legitimately laughed aloud at you being surprised killed by the transforming power-up and then later at coming so close to end of Let’s Start only to land on a hammer from out of nowhere.)

Anyway, LordWilliam1234’s latest videos is up on the front page in the second post. It was rather informative on quite a few minor things, like the fact that I hadn’t noticed before just how oddly animated at least the scaled up leaves of Giant Piranha Plant are.

Speaking of which, the particular stage they showed up in was as “fair” as Fox News is actually “fair and balanced”.

Check again. You should see 2 clears there now.

And a new record to boot. :coffee:

That won’t last :nunchuck:

haha it’s fun/funny to watch someone playing through my stages. I should make some more… I’ve been on other games lately (Battleborn! and DC Universe Online) but I will definitely return to this.

*I see that the word “TURD” spelled out in coins on my stage “Smoothies” is still intact…perhaps unnoticed with the slightly deformed letters and random ice blocks mixed in there.

@LordWilliam1234 Congrats on beating some of the toughest courses I’ve made.

@chadouken! HOW did you ever clear TOTALLY TUBULAR in some 23 seconds?! That is nothing short of amazing!

Whelp Diamond Special 5 is up.

I’ve been sitting on this course for weeks. Tried playing it to upload a few weeks back but it worked me over to the point of where I gave up. I was filled with determination to try again when I was given another medal, allowing me to upload more courses. (Thanks for the Stars, LordWilliam) This is the first NSMBU course I’ve uploaded with the Castle tile set. It’s on the lengthy side with one check point.

Now this course I’ve really been sitting on! This baby was done way back in January. I play tested this one again and again because I had so much fun running through it. There is no check point here due to the speedy nature of this level. Also, no enemies in this stage. Time your jumps, make sure you grab the Super Stars, don’t dawdle and you should be fine.

Do you guys find Hammer Bros. easier to deal with in this game? I mean, yeah, Hammer Bros. are still a huge headache but I’ve found that when they jump in this game, they leave a big enough opening for you to stomp on them if you don’t have a Fire Flower or any other means to kill them. This is one of the reasons I’ve been using them more often when I make intentionally hard levels and force the player to deal with them head on.

Still not good enough I’m afraid.

Lol, nice. I still got first clear :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s because you’re not recording yourself going through every single level in the OP.

You know, I’d like to record some of my runs. What software or hardware do you use? I don’t necessarily need commentary, but I have some cool speedruns I’d like to put on video.

I’m struggling to make that platform level fun and exciting but instead it’s very slow and boring.

I really wish there weren’t so many limitations and that we could have access to changing the timing of things on tracks and have intersecting tracks.

it’s hard to get inspired.

I need 6 more stars to hit 50 and gain more levels to post. For now I need to play stages I have been meaning to do for a long time now.

Lol, so I just realized I can hide pictures inside brick walls by putting items inside the bricks I want to use in the picture, then hitting a P switch to change everything around them into coins.

Aww, shit! There’s gonna be some TITTIES in my levels! Might hide some cock and balls, too.

(Be careful with that.)

You could probably get away with some titties, especially given the nature of the game they’re probably just look like some type of bakery confection unless you specifically told people otherwise. Cock and balls would probably get your stage deleted though; after all, the Japanese penis recognition game is too strong.

It’s probably why they have to blur genitals in J-porn. The pure form is reserved only for sacred festivals when it comes to public displays.

I was actually thinking about making a maze level with pipes (think Lost Woods in Zelda) where the sequence is revealed with hidden arrows exposed by P switches or something. Could be cool if implemented right. I’ll work on it soon.

Here’s my next level:
Lost Pipes!

It’s a fun little maze and should be pretty easy, but I wanted to try out the hidden sequence thing I mentioned above.

The 20th edition of these and I still have a ton more to go…

If we don’t hear anything about an update after today then I will give up hope on water tiles and a desert theme. :frowning:

(Oh, right. E3 ends today, doesn’t it? I’d be surprised if they didn’t announce anything honestly.)

Anyway, I added LordWilliam1234’s new video to the front page–chadouken!'s new stage has been added since last night. I’m still not sure on commandeering more space there just yet, especially if I “have” to delete two posts to do it given how that will shift everything, but given it’s highly likely have to update the first page at least one more time tonight or at least this week between a possible update announcement from Nintendo or a new video from roknin, I guess we’ll see if I’ve decided by then.

Uploaded another new course.

This was originally a NSMB ice stage for a good while but I was unsatisfied with the second half of the stage so I scrapped that portion and turned it into a SMB3 ice level. There are actually two exits in this course and I wanted to take another stab at variety with the power ups so while a Fire Flower is useful, the Super Leaf is good in some sections as well. There are secrets for exploitative types and since there are a few Super Stars in this stage, you can shave seconds off your completion time.

How would you guys feel about Lost Levels elements in SMM? Poison Mushrooms, Winds, more aggressive Piranha Plants and Hammer Bros.? Lost Levels isn’t one of my favorite Super Mario games, but I still wouldn’t mind some things from that game being included in SMM.

@LordWilliam1234 good work with that clear time on ★S-3: BOOYAH. You also got the hang of ◆S-4: TOTALLY TUBULAR very quickly. It took me some 20 minutes just to beat it for uploading purposes.
