oh snap didn’t know this thread existed. Guess I’ll dig through to see what people have done.
i was told to come in this thread for decent levels…i trust you guys. we’re probably all around the same age and played these games when they first came out so we know what platforming is. i’ll definitely play through you guys’ levels. i was excited about getting this game but when i got it and played it i was disappointed because the levels the community made were wack to me. weird ass sound effects, shit that wouldn’t exist in a mario game made by nintendo…overall weirdo shit. but i thought to myself that most of the community is probably too young to have played platformers like we did growing up when they were standard, so…
anyway, i decided to at least unlock everything and make my own level and now i’m fucking with this game lol. anywhere here’s a level that i made:
i tried to make something that would be similar to something you’d get if you played super mario world or yoshi’s island. its hard but fair.
i do have a couple of questions, though…
-there’s no way around the enemy limit is there? i tried to make the spike tops add to the atmosphere of the level by having them crawl on and in the ceiling. i wanted more spike tops towards the end of the level where the exit is but i couldn’t so i had to limit them in other areas.
-are “snake blocks” in the game? the ones where you have to stand on them and they move you through the level?
-charging chucks really aren’t in the game???
-how do i add check points? i thought i unlocked everything because it said i did but i don’t see the option?
-i thought they fixed the powerup thing where if you have a mushroom the next block with a powerup could be a flower or a feather? is that no so?
-where do i get the helmets?
thanks.
lastly, here’s the same level as an airship in smb:
A way around the enemy/block limit is to use a second area with a pipe. There are no snake blocks or charging chucks in the game, unfortunately. You place a checkpoint by shaking an Arrow item and helmets by shaking spinies or buzzy beetles. For power ups that change depending on if you have a mushroom or not, drag and drop a fire flower or feather over a question mark block with a mushroom already in it… or maybe I have that backwards.
Fun looking level btw.
To make a power up be a mushroom or a fire flower (or leaf/feather/propeller) contingent on Mario’s status, first place a fire flower on the map. Then drag a mushroom onto the fire flower and it will attach. Then you can drag that into a block or pipe or cannon, whatever.
I’m still trying to figure out how to add checkpoints.
Anyways, whats the opinion on long levels? My long stuff wasn’t liked due to length and difficulty, while my 4 year old son got a many stars as I did with some…weak s—
Shake the arrow to turn it into a checkpoint flag.
And, personally, I like long challenging levels. But I’ve been playing Mario since the 1980s. You have a lot of kids making crap out there.
My advice would be to play through everyone’s levels here on SRK. The ones you like, you can see who else starred them and then check their levels out. Chances are, if they liked what you liked, they’ll have a few good levels. That’s how I’ve been networking and weeding through the crap. I’ve been able to find some really good stuff.
Also, if you find someone who has a bunch of levels you like, make sure to star them and leave comments. And anyone who leaves a star on your levels- play theirs. I find that if I star and comment on others, they are more likely to try more of my levels out.
ah ok. gonna make better levels now. thanks!
i created some more levels. here are a few boss levels:
i’ma redo this boss level and make it easier and better:
lastly, here’s a regular spike top level
(i’m playing like that because i was trying to show off the level)
i need to either practice flying with the cape or they changed it to where you can’t fly or its not the same timing? i dunno…maybe its me.
edit
yo…if i had known if you drop a cheep cheep into lava it comes at you surrounded by fire…bro…well, i have the castle level for that boss fight now lol…
quick question…is there a way to change the music for a stage? it’d be nice if i could use say…smb air ship music or castle music for my smw bosses…
Hey guys just wanted to share my stage. It’s a skill based platforming stage, no retarded stuff, no off screen one block landing points, no horde of enemies you have to damage boost through. Just you and your jump/wall jump/twirl jump skills.
There’s multiple paths through certain parts and if there’s any questions on how to beat an area I’ll be glad to answer. I kind of wanted to make something that would look awesome on a speed run.
Ninjario v.2.0

Edit: ^ debs, the only way I know to change the music is to place a sound block ON Mario and save your level with it on him. I know for a fact this works with the boss music because I used it in my level above.
i want to thank the ppl on srk for making me go back and play mario maker again…and also buying a wii u again. i haven’t been this excited to play new video games in a long time.

With the naval piranha fight I will have one of the pipes lead to the exit.
(still laments that his audio is broken on this laptop and that he still has no Wii U)
Anyway, it’s good to see this thread more active. T20thoughts had already been added debs’s stage, so all I had to do was add NeoBlood’s stage and Roknin’s latest video, which I still watched despite my complete lack of audio. Watching it without audio actually made it more amusing in the instances where he visibly got confused or stuck, though I’ll admit that it took me about two minutes to figure out the conveyor belt thing as well.
EDIT:
I don’t have the game or even a Wii U, but I’m pretty sure that flying with the cape is exactly the same as it is in Super Mario World, down to the more esoteric aspects about it.
here’s a new level i made.
i tried to show off (nearly) the entire level plus the boss fight:
edit
I edited some things to make it easier.
-all blocks with feathers are now fire flowers or mushrooms if you don’t already have a mushroom.
-you can get a fire flower at the start of the level if you use the bomb to break the blocks above the piranha plant. Then use the buzzy beetle shell to break the question mark block.
-the fire flower in the question mark block near the vine with the difficult jump is now a one up.
-the exit is in the same pipe as naval piranha instead of the pipe to the right.
Of course you don’t have to explore the whole level. But for he explorers out there there’s two areas. The upper and lower level. It’s too bad we don’t have keys available.
revised
Started this back up finally might complete somethinig…
I always kept playing other levels.
I do have to say, I abhor the whole name thing, having to write down these damn codes to find s— isn’t cool. I can’t even ‘search’ for crap as it is now.
Nintendo’s launching a site later this month to help simplify level searching and allow you to follow your favorite stages/creators.
You’ll be able to favorite a stage or person on the site, and a notification will show up next time you start the game up.
nintendo is so…weird. reminds me of apple. i fuck with both but i hate some of their policies.
my head is hitting the ceiling as far as traditional level layout. i’m trying to keep the layouts like smw but the lack of backgrounds and enemies is creating a low ceiling. can we please get dlc already.
i know everyone has a list…here’s what i think we need:
night time
snow options
slopes
higher height
larger tile limit (brick limit, ground limit, enemy limit need to be increased…not to spam enemies but to add to backgrounds and shit without having to use pipes)
different colored pipes
bushes, clouds, etc. (i know bushes can pop up when you create the ground but we need more options)
WATER and lava placed anywhere in any level
water able to be used like that super mario 3d world level where you could swim in water "boxes"
shadow areas like the curtain level in wooly world or the shadow levels in dkc tropical freeze
more music options -use any stage music in any theme
different colored vines
chain saws
banzai bill
ball n chain
dry bones without throwing a bone
more enemies that can be enlarged using a mushroom
take away lava in castles (would love water instead for the naval piranha level i made)
world maps
koopalings
fishin lakitu
enemies that take multiple hits to defeat (to create better boss fights)
pokeys
desert themes
sky world theme (need more cloud options etc)
blaargs
any bird enemies
sumo bros and chargin chuck
boom boom
walking piranha plants and patooie would be great.
keys
dragon coins or something else thats collectable. need a way to reward besides a one up.
more fish, large puffers…any water enemies we are missing. water levels are severely lacking due to the amount of enemies only seen in water levels missing.
etc.
smb2 would be nice too.
is there any way to kill bowser jr without the bridge and ax? actually nevermind. i can set up a boss fight where you have to throw bombs at the floor and break the grey blocks so that he falls in lava. on that note, enemies you have to kill to complete a level rather than needing to cross a bridge to hit the ax would be nice.
Alright I need feed back…

Bah the picture for the Star Fox ID didn’t capture. I’ll edit later.
I’m looking for constructive criticism, after a while as the creator you see things one way, and miss how everyone else sees it.
Still more work than it should be…
I’ve been dying for some DLC, but I won’t get what I want the most.
“Amiibo Game Patch” - updating all the amiibo mushrooms to be usable in the other worlds. I’m tired of SMB1, but its the only one I can get ‘thematically cute’, like my Star Fox level
My second prefered DLC would be “theme packs” for certain properties - like a Zelda theme pack that lets you change all the bad guys and vehicles to some parallel thing. I mean come on, we got Megaman and Sonic, but making boss fights Megaman style (I do it a lot) is “meh” in terms of looks, and Sonic can’t run through a loop gasp.
I know its too much to ask, but I would like some level of programming options, even basic if/else or do-while loops
it just feels off. i think its the controller…this is me playing smw using a psx controller (jailbroken ps3, smw)
vs me not being able to fly worth a shit in smm.
new level i made…something easy. i need to run through smw again to get better ideas for level design. i’m trying to make my levels where if you’re an explorer you’ll be satisfied but if you want to run through the level you can do that too.
just showing every part of the level. i wouldn’t play through it like that.
I use the Wii remote sideways for playing. Two buttons and a shake for spin/stall is all I need, and it feels the most natural out of all the options (Gamepad, Pro controller, Classic controller) for 2D Mario.
I just use the gamepad, works out well in my house, when I want to do something else, my son (4) can play MM.
i’ve been alternating between the pro controller and the wii u gamepad…neither feel natural to me at all. i’ve gotten most of the stuff in wooly world but def died accidentally a lot trying to maneuver yoshi. if i could use the snes or psx controller it would have been a wrap. the pro controller’s buttons feel too close together and small. the gamepad is just…different but i don’t like that they mapped the spin jump to the shoulder buttons and is it just me or is shotting fireballs from vines different than it used to be? like you can’t just press y to shoot. you have to jump and then do it. i dunno i’ll test it out later.
gonna test out flying now.
edit
flying is definitely different. i did it successfully once by using my index finger and middle finger and tapping the buttons hard. i dunno its way off. i still can’t do it at all holding the game pad normally. i’ll try on the pro controller in a sec. again, i’m almost sure shooting from vines is different…
probably has something to do with the other game styles available.
knew it wasn’t me since i play super mario games on my jailbroken ps3 pretty regularly and have been playing them since the 80’s and 90’s.
quick question…is there anyway to fix the height of a stage? like you can’t see a certain area without being higher or running and jumping but its off from smw…hard to explain. i might make a video for it. what i’m trying to say is that you should be able to see more of the stage than you can. this affects smw. not sure about the other styles.
