The Super Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

Eh, I think that Shadow wasn’t edgy unil his spin-off game came in with guns and took a crap on his backstory with ailens. If anything his story was quite similar to Cammy’s SF2 story or even Zero in the MMZ game only not as good.

It’s kind of irritating how Edgy nowadays means " thing that isn’t cheery I don’t like".

Yeah that’s DEFINITELY what edgelord means nowadays…

Nah, it isn’t

Look, you can like Kage. More power to you.

He’s Edgelord AF.

You can like Shadow too.

He’s Edgelord AF.

Also Shadow was ALWAYS edgy. He’s a super serious “OMFG tragic backstory!” version of an existing character colored red & black with the same powers but EVEN BETTERER and he’s a bad-guy

Oh and he “doesn’t play by anyone’s rules” and is a wild card even against the bad guy.

FANG isn’t cheery. He also isn’t edgelord.

Necalli isn’t cheery. He also isn’t edgelord.

Edgelord means edgelord.

Only in his debut game since then he joined the Sonic equivalent of InterPol

Wow so he became a super secret super spy!

So let’s put one more checkmark in the “Edgelord” check list

@Pertho Concept wise Kage is edgelord af, but it’s coherent with the nature of the character
Execution wise is bad (an wrong)

Ironically if i was the one to design it i will have made it EVEN more edgelord (and i don’t like forced edgy shit), as it will look much more like a specter-demon as the incorporeal energy based being he is

The thing for me is that if you really want to do this Kage thing (personally i will have preferred get +1 martial artist, something ever more rare in SF sadly), then go for it and develop it’s design

Instead they just slapped there evilryu for the loud crowd that wanted it, then changed name as half excuse for all those that hate evilryu lazy card

To me the problem is’nt his edgylordness, is they gave a fucking slot to evilryu (pretending is’nt evilryu) instead use it for more interessing characters

I think I agree on the demonic appearance. I would’ve gone for something even more incorporeal and other worldly to ensure that the character is even more distinguished from Ryu and unmistakably inhuman/not Evil Ryu.

Then I would’ve made sure the non-canonical story costume is a more classic looking Evil Ryu.

Shadow the hedgehog is the quintessential example of when jap character design become lazy edgy beyond excuse LOL

Literally take Sonic, turn it black with red details* (cuz black is darkcool and red is cool), slap on his face the Vegeta’s angryface.

*black + red or purple design is ultimate edgelord shit classic

Now we just lack a tryhard name… Shadow
Lol it could not have been worse even if they tried to be purposely comical, surprised he managed to came out without vampire fangs or a black katana… still they added a black motorcycle and guns LOL

Metal Sonic in the 90s was’nt THAT much better (concept still was do a cool dark evil sonic), but at least got some character design develpment effort
They took that idea, mixed with Eggman creations style, added a bit of T800

Shadow on other hand is literally what you will get asking a 14yo otaku without great talent to design an “evil sonic”
Wich is not surprising since that was likely more or less the target audience for it

So imho Shadow took even too much shit, as it was created exclusively to please the teens Sega was aiming to get

Shadow was’nt “design”, it was 99% marketing
But LOL at it not being edgy try hard shit

How about your thoughts with Oni?

I feel like Kage is more edgy than Oni.

Oni feels like super saiyan akuma than edgy akuma. IMHO

Very much agree. Nice comparison bringing in Bart. They are very in the same level especially if you view them those times.

Those Nintendo VS Sega times. SEGA tries to be the edgy company.

I love the dreamcast and saturn.

Oni was trash, but was added when Capcom clearly was’nt even trying anymore with SF4, i want to believe* SFV still have a full healthy Season 4 (even if not-season) with good additions

Oni was the herp derp design done to get maximum impact on trash tastes audience with the minimum effort

To be fair with Capcom Oni was the the base of what Kage is now. He not that questioned that time when he was revealed because people are already assuming it’s Akuma’s future.

Now with Kage storymode it seems that it isn’t. Which is better because it would still compromise to SF3.

His not Akuma conscience like Kage to Ryu, to what he was in SF4.

Yet comparing both Oni to Kage even in win quotes Kage is the edgier one lol.

@Cestus_II (obviously a man of taste considering his avatar) took all the words right out of my mouth. Agreed 100% on his last few posts.

The “rainbows in hell” line is a perfect PERFECT example of an edgelord dumbass trying to say something and sound KEWL but coming off as socially incompetent and cringe-inducing.

If you’re gonna talk about rainbows AND be cool, you have to be (the man) Ronnie James Dio

Wich is what’s wrong with Kage design, as aside an acceptable common visual link coming both from SnH side of the ki, Oni and Kage are absolutely different beings, not even in same planes of existence
Instead they look the same shit

I just found this quote to Kage so hilarious…

In the face of this demonic, powerful creature, Karin just told his ass to go.

Shadow uses guns. The intro to his game should be the edgelord anthem.

I don’t want to remember that game…

I’m still trying figure why I went through the entire story and also the All A ranks.

Curse my past-self.

Sonic’s never been the same since he started to appeal to the west starting with that game. A stark warning to other series that think of doing the same.

Basically.

Even with the divisive opinions of Sonic Heroes in mind, Shadow the Hedgehog was literally the beginning of the series’ downfall. And, followed after then was a… complete anomaly.
