I like to land one hit confirms in SFV that the thing that makes me happy in the game.
To be honest for me one of the best move to land in all FG I’ve tried (not that many to be perfectly honest) is definitly CH fafnir from Sol. That shit rolls peope on the ground for half a screen, it’s awesome.
sim has strong, diverse AAs and can also contest people in the air, I don’t see the double jump being a big problem
kolin will probably slaughter sim once she gets in (if she’s as setup heavy as she appears to be) but her slow speed and bad normals make me think she’ll be reasonably easy to zone
I think it will come down to how good her counter is vs. sim’s limbs, need more info on it
Sol has a bunch of fun 1-hit confirms too. 2D > Tyrant Rave is pretty easily confirmable (as well as being very useful for empty jump low-mixups which he can set up pretty easily), and it feels great when you land a CH 6P or 6H and confirm that into Bandit Bringer.
She has no need to force her way in, She can read limbs and counter, and V-Skill is a guaranteed F*** Limbs button. She has no reason to jump on Dhalsim.
[details=Spoiler]Older DOA games it was more of a preference. Characters generally had effective tools to work with outside of having to do: stun, mix-ups, build stun for juggle. Characters were also just bad in older DOA games without means to get around certain things outside of using the hold system. DOA2-4 had way more character specialists in tournaments, but those games were also featured at events way way less.
Now it’s more of a matter of having character tools being more streamlined and payoff for things being extremely homogenized. Damage is generally capped for things outside of specific instances. An example I would use would be Jann Lee, who can get a launch from a mid-level low-crushing move. In previous DOA games this juggle gave him one of the highest damage outputs for a move of its nature, now its basically the same as everyone else’s. So it becomes more of a: Well this guy is used to what I’m doing with X character and there’s not much reason to not try and mix it up with someone else. Very rarely do MUs really get influenced by characters movesets outside of characters just being ass in terms of damage, speed, mix-up. There’s only a few characters in this case. If you look at DOA results now every tournament is basically the same 4 people with a few local players. It’s honestly safer to have a back-up pick then run into a mirror with someone who has been constantly getting tournament level gameplay in with X character with the way moves and their uses have been streamlined in DOA5. I think there’s characters that do dictate you basically only use them though. Bayman due to his advance holds or Akira/Pai due to their immense difficulty compared to other characters spring to mind.
There’s still aspects on characters that are incredibly strong, such as Christie or Helena’s stances which avoid moves at certain hit levels and can lead into continued pressure, mix-ups, or provide them with a means to continue to avoid certain moves.[/details]
I’m still kind of mad about Akuma’s story mode…I was expecting a swift death to Necalli…instead we were 2 seconds away from Akuma and Ryu doing a bro-fist
A lot of his tools that don’t perform the function they were supposedly ‘designed’ to do is perhaps one of his biggest problems.
I think he is otherwise fine, he just pales in comparison to most of the cast. I’d like to think the rebalance update will see him receive some attention. Not much, just a little.
