I’d be interested in seeing usage statistics for Urien, especially in rank Gold and up.

I think meter and V-trigger management and awareness is even more vital now, especially in S2. If a character with a safe metered option has it I personally think it’s not that hard to bait for 90% of players into using it and then blocking it. I’ll quite happily sit now when Urien/Rog etc has meter and wait to block the inevitable hale mary, then either V-reversal to steal the momentum back or just hold the block string til I’m out. It’s like a turn based game inside a turn based game - “ok they’ve burned it - now we can play again”
You can’t really blame the players that have these moves for using them like that since that’s primarily (right or wrong) the design choice. A big “fuck it” momentum stealer. You’ve just got to fish it out of them.
This is a very smart strategy to use. Unfortunately… it’s also a very obvious strategy.
The game breaks down at this point because there’s not a really good way to punish people for “just blocking” when they think a v pop cancel is coming.
The only direct way to punish is to dash or jump in while they are waiting… it that’s just more sfv stupidity “have to do something unsafe to punish defensive opponent tendencies”
I long for the days when I could just st.hp people to death with Chun in A2

It’s a very obscure one, and I disagree! I think it’s much more likely that like Zangief, Noembelu, Decapre, Santamu, and probably Kolin, he’s a victim of bad romanization.
In any case, without a statement from Capcom either way we’ll never know.

I think stick execution is a lost cause for me unfortunately. I’ve been playing on one for almost a decade now and still only have like a 30% success rate for backdashes, a 50% success rate for forward dashes, and a 70% success rate with DPs. smooth motions like QCF, HCB, even SPD and 2xSPD motions are perfectly fine, it’s just the abrupt stuff that I suck at.
the root of the problem is that I can’t hold the damn stick comfortably. probably due to a combination of 1(hand shape 2(arm length and 3(a minor tremor in both hands. I’ve tried basically every conceivable grip on both bat and ball top, both with and without a shaft extender, on 2 separate sticks, in all sorts of sitting positions, and I still can’t find a setup that lets me do a fucking backdash consistently. my thumb always juts too far past the ball/bat top for me to leverage it for control, so I end up doing most of the work with my pinky and ring finger which is… straining, to say the least. I can’t fit my hand under the top and then wrap it around comfortably, so I have to either 1(grip it with just my fingertips or 2(use the ‘wine glass’ grip but with only the bottom 3 fingers and no index at all. both lead to all sorts of problems.
switching to a high tension spring helped a fair amount, which makes me think that my tremor is the biggest obstacle. (it shows that I’m better at exaggerated movements than delicate ones, which is consistent with the pattern of my tremor)
I’ve NEVER allowed anything to dictate my choice of character other than playing whoever I like the best at the time, but you’re probably right that character choice is something I need to start considering. I am indeed better at motion characters… I just can’t stand the idea of letting execution limit my character choice.
and maybe that’s a sacrifice I need to make to get good. I dunno.
Have you tried stronger or weaker tension springs?

That’s exactly how you’d write the Roman name Julian (which is pronounced Yulian). It’s not how you’d write the Welsh name Urien.

Season 2.5 will be the same game with the pieces shuffled. This is as good as it gets boyz. It’s all lag, everything ever can be traced back to the responsiveness of the game but that one got buried 800 pages ago in the shill archives.

tier whoring doesn’t even make sense in the lower ranks. if you really want to win that bad you’re better off picking characters that are hard to deal with in lag, or characters that are just hard for bad players to deal with in general (like dhalsim - currently sitting at the #1 winrate for top 10,000 players despite falling off in the top 100)
Conversely my ass is lucking into wins I have no business getting. Easy come easy go I suppose
