How do you deal with jump ins/cross ups? Trying to get back into SFV, but dealing with this shit feels impossible. I don’t really care about characters anymore (they’re all garbage tbh), I’m just grinding out FM to unlock Urien/Juri/stages.

You’re taking what I said out of context. I said he can play a defensive neutral game effectively, meaning he can keep people out.** I didn’t say he has good defense once someone manages to get in.**

Most V skills are bad and/or highly situational so I don’t see how that proves anything. Chun’s V skill isn’t good either, for instance.

Lastly, it’s not not true that all of Urien’s forward moving specials are punishable. Headbutt is at worst -2 on block except for the EX version which trades safety for invincibility. EX tackle and knee smash are both safe on block, and the regular versions (while unsafe) can be spaced to be safe or even + on block with practice.*

*(EX tackle has a gap between the 1st and 2nd hit that can be interrupted if you use it point blank, but there’s not much reason to use EX tackle at that range anyways).

When people rush him down all of this makes these his weaknesses really stand out. Which was my point, Urien seems strong but if you never let him set up in the first place he falls apart.

I am not really disputing what you were sayng, I’m simply giving more context as to why he is 4th best DLC on my list. I don’t think his offense is strong enough outside relying on his V trigger to make up for his trash defense.

He’s a cool ass character but he not as good as the other 3. I feel Urien will do worse over time like Fang once people learn his set ups.

From what I saw from the video, KnuckleDu was placing V Skills at a space that shuts down most of Karin’s anti projectile options. Justin tried command dashing and EX dashing through and it was just stay active past the projectile invincible frames and stuff Karin. Which then forced Justin’s Karin to jump and he ate American fists and boots all day doing that.

V-skill does not shut down “most” of Karin’s anti-projectile options though. It’s great against raw EX dash (the invincibility runs out and then you’re stuck in the hitbox), but regular Orochi low profiles the V-skill (and regular booms) very easily, and ressenha gets past it from a lot of ranges.

The V-skill’s still a very good option simply by the nature of being a stationary projectile (it makes it a lot more annoying to poke, most notably), but Karin still has a lot of play there.
Anyway, just wanted to clarify that last point. I’ll shut up about this now and just concede that people figured out the week 1 tactics. =V

Makes sense. He probably just needs better spacing as the regular orochis were running into the V Skills rather than low profiling them. Something Justin can learn. Either way there’s definite spacings where Guile can place the V Skill and I don’t think it’s going to be as simple as low profiling with orochi to get around it. Once it’s out its a wall he can move around especially from a range. Very fun matchup to watch though. Lots of options available to both characters.

The Wal aspect is slightly overstated. Guile recovers 10 frames before the v skill does, so it has 10 active frames of “wall time” where guile can move or block and the projectile acts like a wall.

That isn’t much time at all. The v skill is also negative on block up close though it can be canceled into boom with a decent sized gap.

Guile is very interesting in this game.

Ok so im very out of touch with this game, dropping it for a couple of weeks at a time. I came back from a 2 week hiatus and I’m wondering where the fuck all the other non ryu/ken/chun/nash/karin players are.

10 hours of ranked matches and not one single juri, rashid, fang, ibuki and so on. Wasn’t there some crazy hype behind juri? I certainly thought I’d see more of her.
