Iām not even trying to claim that Iām on Tokidoās level or anything like that, but if you are trying to dismiss me as ābadā because I am trying to point out that Kenās s.HK is not an abusable button in a given match up then Iāll be happy to tell you to shove it.
In the heat of a real match against where both players are moving a shit ton to trying to bait out a button press, itās difficult to space things exactly which is what you have to do to make Kenās s.HK safe. And the problem is the reward for Kenās s.HK is only good on counter hit or if you have V-Trigger. Just hitting with it is not good enough. Yet the risk for whiffing it against Vega is usually 25% of your health and Vega gets to put you in a mix up. Thatās not a consistent game plan in the least.
You can abuse s.HK if the Vega player is playing with the claw on because Vega canāt punish it as well even if you screw up your spacing, but claw off means that you have to hit it perfectly at the max range to keep it safe.
LoyalSol: I really believe Ken can have his troubles in the matchup vs Vega. If you use Dantarionās hit box collision checker you can research and visually see that there are a lot of Vega to Ken interactions where Vega virtually wins. Unless my Ken can play a strong neutral where he never jumps and slowly pushes Vega to to the corner, I have to play very modestly.
Evil Canadian: I believe your analysis has strong points, although there are some glaring faults. Kenās s.HK is a lot harder to whiff punish than you are supposing. Especially in the heat of battle with the threat of crush counter into heavy damage. It forces us Vega players to be a bit more respectful. On top of that Vegaās anti air game is rather suspect and once you get a ken that starts going yolo with the air tatsus that can be an issue. I also donāt have a reversal vs a character as offensively powerful as Ken.
Veserius: Youāll have to excuse me as I will add a bit of conjecture during this. Just wanted to point out that Vegaās j.MK can stop a lot of the normal jump angles for Ken. I donāt think you all are great at the game so I just wanted to throw this out there to help build insight and slightly stronger players out of you.
**LoyalSol: Ok, great thanks! I will say Evil Canadian that yes Kenās air game can be an issue if you arenāt great with all of your options. Vega should actually be small enough to duck under the air tatsu options and EX tatsu you can just wait to block and burns a meter any way. Think of it like waiting out Bisonās EX DRās.

Evil Canadian: This is interesting. I will have to experiment with this. I like that you posted specific videos to look over. I can clearly see Kenās feet barely grazing Vegaās beautful hair and Vega still being safe with maybe even a punish opportunity. I still feel this matchup can be a struggle, but I see the options.
LoyalSol: Yes, there will be a definitely struggle for Ken as well, but you are right in that if I get my momentum going I can make it not so bad.
Evil Canadian: I guess we could call this a 5 5 matchup and base it on Vegaās neutral vs Kenās momentum evening things out.
LoyalSol: Correct. Although I loathe Vega and think everything about the character is rather cheap and egregious, I will hold that shit for a second and concede that over time I will see this matchup and the character as more honest.
EvilCanadian: Yeah I love Vega. Ok this was fun have a great day.
Itās a āfightingā game forum for a reason. People have competitive mindsets here and the want to lambast ones opponent with ones opinions, be they well reasoned or not, is strong.
