Yeah, I mean why are they downplaying the player because he made some weird choices. I don’t see him mashing st.LK in hitstun as something any different than mashing reversals in SF4 or doing wakeup jab in SF5. He is banking on his opponent to mess up.
What i mean is theory fighter is something and going for stuff that is technically a " bad option " doesn’t mean that this option wouldn’t work. Playing too much by the book usually doesn’t yield good results, you gotta YOLO sometimes.
I dunno, Vega can be tough if they know how to play midrange against Ryu, and he gets free jump-ins over fireballs with his weird jump arc. Just like Nash.
Yeah no. Vega mauls the living fuck out of Ken mid screen. The only situation Ken actually gets control of Vega is in the corner, but getting him there when none of your damn buttons can hit Vega is extremely difficult.
All the little hitbox/hurtbox interactions suck for Vega and once the Vega knows how to deal with the shenanigans it’s extremely tough for Ken to get anything started.
I’ll just point to the fact that Nemo has made Eita his bitch by winning 9/10 games against him and even Momochi has to sit there and bleed damage mid screen hoping to get in.
Based on what? Hard fact that most Vega players play the match up horribly wrong?
My beliefs are based on having played that match up a shit ton. If the Vega player knows how to play the match up it’s extremely hard for Ken to get anything started. All the little hitbox/hurtbox interactions in that match up absolutely blow for Ken.
Vega can do that(jump in attack/no attack for srk whiff) from a very specific range yes, but its not a reliable tool like how Birdie can do it. You are correct that Ryu jab isn’t end all be all, but it is against vega. It beats his j.lk which is his most reliable jump button 100% of the time. To get the magic range where you can jump that fireball safely you gotta give up a lot of screen and it isn’t a real world gameplan.
