Both Revelator and KOF14 on consoles have sold way less than SF5 and people state here that after a few months it has become hard to find games online on console. If people were so thirsty of fighting games wouldn’t they both have better sales and growth expectations since they are considered as much superior to SF5?

So I’m getting ranked matches every 30 seconds (on PS 4) and my friend who’s on steam has to wait 2-5 minutes for a game.

Anyone know what’s wrong?

PS4 is shittier than most modern PCs (as evidence by the fact many PS4 people play on training stage to avoid frame drops) and you can lag switch both on console and on PC.

PS4 being inferior to an Ultra end PC doesn’t mean anything. That’s common knowledge.
People play SFV with shit PCs, that’s why every other PC player fucks up the game, and lagging the game takes 20 seconds to setup.

So playing on a shitty console is fine but shit PCs is haram? Eh. Guess I’ll just take something to avoid falling asleep while waiting for my opponent’s PS4 to load the match.
And the system performance only affects loading times anyway, only EXTREMELY underpowered PCs can add some rollback… but this usually means it’s a slideshow on their side too.

Tried 5-bars as PC user. Some matches were good… but I still get a rollback that happens in some rounds but not all of the entire set (yes, the occasional “one-sided” problem where you wait a few seconds during the match and it lags… I got so infuriated when it happen to a Ryu player that I couldn’t tolerate the set, but made it out okay). Doesn’t even feel good to play ranked primarily for fight money challenges if I know it’s not a good experience. I hope their Season 2 planning has syncing as one of their concerns… but I think that’s just grasping for too much to ask.

CT Nu vs CT Tager…that was a slaughter.

I remember those days all too well. BB: CT was my first serious fighting game and I picked up Tager because he was the only grappler and had the lowest execution requirements. No one told me he was trash tier so I stuck it out with him until the local arcade got rid of the CT cabinet. Whenever I catch myself wanting to bitch about a matchup in SFV, I just remind myself of those bad old days. Sad thing was, Nu wasn’t even his worst matchup. Bad as Nu was, Arakune and Carl were much, much worse.

This is similar to my own experience with fighting games and I very much agree that the shitshow that was BB:CT helps keep things in perspective. I’m pretty sure that there’s ever been another 1v1 fighting game (i.e. not SFxT, MvC3, etc.) from a major and experienced fighting game developer (ASW, Capcom, Namco Bandai, etc.) that had worse balance relative to the cast size than BB:CT did. For example, Bang vs. Tager was somewhere between a 6-4 and a 7-3 matchup in favor of Bang and he [Bang] was the second or third worst character in the game.

The game had 12 characters and most of them were basically viable. I wasn’t a pro or anything, but I feel like you’re overstating it a bit. As long as you didn’t play Tager or Hakumen, there were no unwinnable matchups. Bang seemed awful too, but Dora made him work. I could never figure out how to use that guy anyway, even in CS where he was stupidly top tier along with Litchi. At least CT had 3 top tiers, lol. They were all annoying to fight (actually I never fought a single good Rachel), but I lost to Litchi SO MANY TIMES in CS that I can’t help but feel like she was worse.

Yeah, I don’t think you’re right. Firstly CS has three top tier characters as well as Ragna was just a shade below Litchi and Bang in that game. CS also added a new character in Hazama who absolutely shit on Tager and wasn’t a walk in the park for Hakumen to fight either as outside of Bang the low-tier characters in CT didn’t see much improvement in the transition to CS. Here’s the funny thing though. You’re completely wrong about most of the characters being basically viable too. Even if you remove Rachel, Nu and Arakune from the equation you’re still left with Carl who will flat out obliterate all of the remaining cast except for Jin and Ragna (in that they can DP and pray). That doesn’t sound very viable to me. I also fail to see why a game having a specific number of OP S+ tier characters matters unless you really place a premium on the variety of one sided slaughters that you witness. I mean I guess watching a Nu-13 absolutely steamroll a Tager is a different flavor of train wreck than watching a Arakune do so.

This is bullshit. I’ve had many great matches in SF4. SF4 only became bullshit when you had to fight bullshit match ups. On the flip side fights like
Oni vs Akuma
Juri vs C. Viper
Evil Ryu vs. Akuma
Ryu vs Ken
Ryu vs Sim
and amongst others provided the some of the BEST times in FG history as a player and as a tournament spectator. Even after a few years of figuring out the harder match ups like Yun, Seth, and Cammy made my frustration turn into passion

The sad thing is if a player fucking sucks then the game sucks, this mentality carries over on all genres.

Momochi (Ken) vs Daigo (Evil Ryu) might be one of the best fucking sets of all time…that and Tokido vs Daigo FT100 set

Yeah I know it’s an opinion but fuck opinion, you wouldn’t be able to dick suck SFV if SF4 didn’t rejuvenate Capcom as a business.

It’s all good though, Karma will set in eventually. Keep trying to isolate SF4 like people did the SF3 series.

Felt good too! I still like SFV over SF4 but the bashing triggers me still. There are some very important elements from SF4 that’s missing in SFV.

SFV still has not proven to be more hype from a viewers aspect. But that can change since recently a lot of the “mid tier” “low tier” characters are putting in that work. Shit…it even made people realize GASP Justin Wong’s Karin might not be as good as you thought!
