For me it’s glaringly apparent like the difference between yellow and green (shrugs)
But I have 20/10 to 20/15 vision so it may just be that I can see well. I’ve talked to others that don’t notice the difference easy, and also people that it is very obvious to.
Yeah the jump to 3D was bound to happen even if it’s a little depressing.
Something that I haven’t seen mentioned is the realistic cap that you could expect from the game considering it has to load and render up to 6 different characters per match compared to the usual 2. It is obvious that the detail the characters have to be reduced to have a decent flow across rounds. Just imagine having SFV like load times to play out a round where a character has 10 % life left.
Not gonna say that game doesn’t look amateurish but being realistic how good could it look if optimized? I imagine it could look like DoA5 since that game can handle 4 characters simultaneously on the previous generation and still looks great (that Mai Shiranui is awesome).
Art style is just a matter of taste, personally I like both. Different styles for different kinds of game.
But technically speaking, you just can’t argue that SFV has better graphics than Xrd. It’s not a even fun comparison when you take in consideration the clipping issues and several graphic glitches (Guile’s hair chopped, lol).
You are talking about art style. I’m talking about graphics.
Liking an artstyle over another is a thing of opinion. Graphics are as well but less so. I like the less grainy look of the first sprite rather the hyper grainy look of the second one. This is also why I myself prefer the new HD remix look of HD remix. It doesn’t matter to me if other people like the classic look more for whatever reasons as those reasons are largely subjective or opinion based and I don’t expect people to have the same opinions as I do.
However my opinion on the artstyle for those above sprites goes:
First sprite I don’t like the skinniness of it. It looks weak, like a weak fighter.
Second sprite I like the readiness through back and forth movement it shows, but I also think the second Sprite looks a bit like a hunchback. All in all I prefer the first sprite even if she looks like she couldn’t punch her way out of a wet paper bag compared to the second (bottom) sprite.
The KOFXIII sprites are lowres too though. You can’t tell by looking at the forum post, but you can notice it when playing on a big screen. The sprites are sub-HD quality in a game running in native 720p
