I’m thoroughly excited for season 2 and the future of SFV, but I like the game enough right now to continue putting in work and getting better.
I hope anybody “waiting for season 2” is at least practicing the game a bit so that they don’t walk into season 2, get bodied by everyone that’s been improving and continue to hate the game.
I’m a huge MK fan so I pretty much have to let alot of MK hating slide but that is just nonsense.
What the hell are you talking about? MK games hold a great place in all of our heart for nostalgia purpose but they were shit until UMK3 came around. UMK3 is the first “real” fighting game in the series that introduced it’s own systems and principles and had an evolving meta.
The meta of the original trilogy was whoever had the best special moves wins.
MK1 was Sonya all day.
MK2 is basically Mileena vs Jax the game.
The modern MK games especially MKXL take a fat shit on everything that came before it. They take what was unique about UMK3 then expand upon it adding depth and balance which is the one thing UMK3 failed at.
No emphasis on movement? Tell that to the Cassie scrubs online crying tears because running takes more stamina.
Yeah MK is totally more popular than SF is. Like, you ain’t gotta like it but thems the hard facts. Bigger tournament scene does not equal greater public mindshare.
I don’t have high hopes at all, I’m just saying that I want them to make some changes and add some characters that I find interesting, if they did that I’d consider picking the game up again. However, my expectation is that we continue to get more homogeneous gameplay and design
Oh yeah don’t get me wrong, I still play the game and watch tourneys every week. My execution and overall level of play gets better with every month. I just haven’t taken the time to learn character matchup stuff (frame data/punishes included).
And the procrastinator side of me is saying “It’s all gonna change in a couple months anyways. Learn that shit come season 2” lol.
MKX is much more savage a game than sf5 in basically all respects. Mika level mixups are for the characters who have bad mixups. The characters with good mixups you can’t even process with a capcom mindset. That and the pace while being the slowest NRS game by quite a bit is still many times faster than sf5, and has crazy things like normals with long reach and dominant fireball games.
MKx is good
But fuck mkx forever I uninstalled it after the last patch nerfed kotal kahn fuck you boon
I miss my sour cream and chive crackers. They are like the sociables crackers but just with sourcream and chives on em. They don’t make em anymore it seems
Like I always say, the territorial attitude (ie my game is better than your game, your game takes no skill, your game only sells because of gore, harharhar, etc) is one of the things that plagues the FGC. The shit got old many yrs ago, but it’s still the **cool **thing to do for some. Every game doesn’t *need *to be liked equally, but at least accept that variety is a good thing for the FGC as a whole. People be focused on all the wrong things nowadays.
MKX is not easier than SF5. Some of you are acting like its a game for morons where you just randomly run in and herp derp mash strings instant win. Run cancels are difficult and lots of characters have basic strings that require very good execution (Erron Black’s 21122, Kung Lao’s 11212, Cassie’s run cancels, Cage’s A-list cancels, etc…). Not to mention cancel timing is much less forgiving and has to be done earlier than in SF5.
What do you guys mean by a game being easier than another ?
Do you mean easier to pick up and play ? I will say they are about the same in that regard. SF5 is very lenient on the execution and isn’t filled with mechanics left and right so it is easy to understand. MKX on the other hand have R2+L2 to super, Dial a combo and strings which makes the game far easier for new players.
Basically SF is easier to understand but MKX makes it easier to do shit that looks cool.
I will put KOF as hard in this argument and GGxrd to be even harder.
Do you mean easier to be an intermediate at ?
I think that SF games require much more FG experience to “git gud” at than NRS games. The main reason for this IS the simplicity. It is much harder to gimmick your way in SF5 than it is in a game like MKm even though you can but it isn’t as strong IMO. The second is that SF games do relies much heavier on spacing and timing.
MKX is easier and harder. The thing with NRS games is that the audience is usually a sea of casuals who will insult you for spamming block ( Yes, that actually happened to me). Having so much casual players will give you the illusion that you are good when you really aren’t all that great. There is less reliance on very intricate spacing and more on twitch reflexes. Since the defense game is made easier by the block button, NRS had to introduce the 50/50 high and low game so that matches won’t be about blocking forever.
Overall, i find that the skill set that is required to be good at SF games take longer to develop than the ones required to be good at NRS games. The average SF player is better at SF than the average MK player is at MK. That is probably why people think that SF is harder but i think both of them have their hard parts.
