I honestly don’t know how to answer this question. For one, I did not attend evo and two outside of local tournaments I never been to any real tournaments. No majors or anything like that.
But if I had to answer I would probably say less. I don’t think it will be far less but more like 3k-4k instead of 5k, but if season 2 is hype enough it may very well be possible that this years attendance could be eclipsed at EVO2K17.
EVO Japan will not replace EVO USA as far as I know.
It’s a separate event.
As for the numbers, I think next year there will be more people attending EVO. SFV and Smash will remain strong as well as Guilty Gear. Injustice 2 will have a lot of players (new game). Marvel will fall off a little bit more, but all the 3D FG fans will get a new game (Tekken 7) and the KoF community has a new game as well. So I would say there will be more people overall, maybe just slightly but I don’t see why there would be less players with a game roster like that.
Yeah more people are going to be at the US Evo than last year still I think. It’s gonna happen. The Japanese still are just a small portion of the player base at Evo and I’m sure some will go to both Evos.
First year hype, I don’t think as many of the players will make it out for the second time. A lot of people probably did it because of the timing to “do an EVO” like our resident @LordWilliam1234
It will still hit over 2k. I’d expect anywhere between 3-5k with 5K being a seriously good turn out, just like this year.
The deal with Evo is that it has grown every year since the first one. The tournament has had 15 of straight growth. As for SF5, I’m thinking that even with the comparatively low numbers, being on ESPN is a huge deal. Unfortunately I don’t necessarily think that the scene is growing in a positive way. The explosion in SF entrants in last year’s Evo and this one has made it seem like the other games are lagging behind. The truth is that those games are having great numbers compared to what they used to be in the past. People compare them to SF numbers and now Smash and think those games are struggling when in fact they are really healthy. Could they be bigger? Probably.
Safe bet is that there will be more people. The tricky part is trying to assess if the other games will grow. I would be really happy if numbers stabilized but the other scenes got to add an extra 100 on each of the games. Ever since Smash other games don’t get as much shine as they used to at Evo.
Do not berate yourself with derogatory terminology (I consider the term scrub derogatory).
Just learn from your losses, improve and become the best player you can be. I haven’t even seen you play and I know you’re capable of becoming more than you are now. You know why? Because we all are.
If there is a higher number of people at EVO I hope they arrange things better. They crammed everything into one room despite having a large venue to work with…and while it was a large room, it still felt kinda cramped when trying to get to each game.
