Zhi is decent when he actually commentates the game and tells the viewer the setups attempts a player went for its clear he has deep knowledge of the game but he starts to spout random bullshit outta no where like talking about katy Perry, memes, making ww2 references YELLING AT RANDOM POINTS IN A MATCH when all the player did was jab someone. overall hes super cringy and annoying and tries TOO hard to be funny

I don’t think Zhi is cringy, I actually think he’s pretty knowledgeable, he travels around the world, so he see’s alot of things, he also speaks English, Japanese, Chinese, and maybe Spanish. He can make all of those references BECAUSE he’s been exposed to a lot of things. He probably knows more about western society and stereotypes than actual people living in America, he’s even seen a lot of cartoons and shows that you wouldn’t imagine a Singaporean watching or having access to. I remember one time he made a Dexters Lab (cartoon network cartoon) reference and I was like " how the fuck did he see that show? " But sometimes he’ll go overboard and get annoying and try too hard to be funny, when he was already doing a decent job at being entertaining, but he just had to push it. He knows ALOT of obscure things.
The problem with yipes on commentary is that he needs a handler. If yiu get somwbosy that can keep him spitting knowledge, then he balances out really well.

I like all of the shitty color commentators. I don’t need people to tell me what’s going on in fighting games because I’ve been playing them too long. When I was first watching tournament videos I heard Japanese moon speak that would blow your ears out and you dealt with it. I can always just find out through the internet or other means. Might as well just listen to people say stupid stuff.
I’m trying to remember the name of that notorious SFIV commentator that everyone hated because he was like 5 times worse than the worst of the SFV commentators. Forget what his name was now. He talked like a robot and just brought up stuff that was wrong or didn’t make sense all the time.

There use to be this super cringey female commentator who sounded like Peggy from king of the hill that people complained a lot about. I guess every game will have bad commentators and over time viewers will find someone their comfortable with
