Capcom intended Nash to be a rushdown character, I guess.
Remember when they had the rushdown beta and you could only play as a bunch of characters that fit that bill?
Well I had my head scratching when they unlocked Nash that weekend and now I know why.
Guess they wanted you to just set up offense behind the slow fireballs, not for you to just zone with them, anti-air every jump in and thwart ground approaches behind safe long range normals and specials.
Personally I’m annoyed by this.
Maybe they did not intend this cat and mouse, death by a thousand cuts playstyle, designed to frustrate you and provoke unforced errors, but holy shit it was the closest thing we had to a traditional fireball zoning game in SFV, and now they’ve just taken that option away by not only nerfing Nash but other characters with fireballs by buffing moves that shit on fireballs.
There’s people that don’t like to get touched by other people, let them have their fucking fireball game, especially in a fucking game that revolutionized the whole genre by basically inventing them.
To be fair a couple of the people who are disagreeing are known Laura players who probably didn’t anticipate her likely inheritance of Mika’s public enemy #1 crown and who’re already having nightmares about the prospect of spending S3 in a wheelchair. So the disagreement there is likely more just a matter of principle. Anyone who disagreed who doesn’t play Laura is just an idiot.
I’m totally aware this is the first and last season Laura will be good before she will end like her brother Sean in 3S, but personally even if Mika could’ve been salt inducing in S1 I don’t think she deserved those heavy nerfs. They could’ve made the clap less safe or limit the mid screen corner carry, but ALL of that is a little too much. Even Chun’s IALL didn’t get hammered that hard.
It’s ike they had multiple possible balance changes to pick, but the boss went up and said “GUYS, FUCK, THE PATCH DROPS TOMORROW!” and then the incompetent capcom employee just selected all changes instead of just one pack.
I was facing this pretty solid Ibuki last night and man once he got started it was hard as fuck to get that little bitch off of me. Thankfully Rogs st.lk helped to break some of it but shit, it’s like 2 mixups and I’m dead almost. I got some matches but no sets.
hp chop on block to power drop is nice to have, but the risk reward is far from Alex’s favor unless it’ll stun or kill.
you can’t do it at the safe distance of chop because grab won’t reach. you have to delay the cancel in a way that the active frames of power drop hit on the 3rd frame your opponent recovered from block stun so the room for error is huge but it’s definitely possible to be consistent with it.
if your opponent knows you have this option on deck you can definitely deter them from wanting to punish hp chop. also you can mix up whether to do it or not. if they get greedy and decide to jump that’s an easy bait and punish but safest counter play is definitely just to backdash.
You where in the minority then. Most people seemed to want Mika either essentially or actually removed from the game. I would also say that as long as no Japanese player starts wrecking face with Laura that you might be able to slip into S3 with only minor nerfs as opposed to outright crippling. With regards to Chun-Li forget IALL she overall took far less damaging nerfs overall than Mika did because as far as I know they didn’t actually remove two of her moves from the game. If IALL saw the equivalent nerfs that f+MP~MP did then the change log for that move would read:
L Airborne Hyakuretsukyaku (Normal/V-Trigger):
[] Chun-Li loses a leg every time Hyakuretsukyaku is blocked.
M Airborne Hyakuretsukyaku (Normal/V-Trigger):
[] Chun-Li loses a leg every time Hyakuretsukyaku is blocked.
H Airborne Hyakuretsukyaku (Normal/V-Trigger) :

Chun-Li loses a leg every time Hyakuretsukyaku is blocked.

She [Chun-Li] might also be the only character in the game who saw a relevant buff to their V-Reversal because reasons.
Yeah, that’s why I kind of hedged. It was mostly that I saw with Chun-Li’s VR that it went from +1 to +2 on hit and I couldn’t really come up with a good reason as to why she needed that. This coming when pretty much everything that was unique about other characters VRs got hammered into the dirt.
