He’ll switch again
Best at theory fighting
Theory fought that Laura was hidden top tier when game released and dropped her like 3 days after
Akuma or like what 4-5 days?
Ibuki will probably be next
Nope, just planning on tri maining akuma/urien/Laura cause I like them all.
Not fussed about being my strongest with one character, the game isn’t nuanced enough to use just one character and not get bored, for me at least. These 3 will be my mains only other character that looks interesting so far is rog cause of that x fac I mean v trigger.
Laura is just up there to get rid of the old avatar and she’s easy on the eyes.
I haven’t even taken her to training mode yet. Still grinding urien and akuma.
Also, yeah, I’m tier whoring the fuck out of season 2.
Most like majorboy. He’s already been to a couple offline events with her and has been the number 1 Ibuki online since day one. He’s consistently stayed within top 100 to now top 50 while everyone else was crying about her. He has the most setups with her so he would easily be the best for running into a tournament and just catching people off guard with stuff.
Isa is probably the next best after him, but I haven’t heard about him participating in any events. He seems to be messing with Akuma also.
Brolynho is probably the next best one after that that isn’t asian so you’ll probably see him doing work first if majorboy isn’t going to tourneys regularly by then. I believe he already won a latin event with her in Season 1 so in Season 2 it should be an easy attempt to do well and win something again.
I just don’t go out to tournaments enough or play online enough for me to be the first breakout Ibuki. I’m just that I told you so guy when shit starts going down.
I’ll probably be at Final Round if things work out there so we’ll see what I can break out with there.
I know the properties of her OH. I was just commenting on the inconsistency.
Ryu OH isn’t airborne at all, and suffers the same fate on being quite negative.
I’m pretty sure more players would take a moderately reactable OH that is safe and lead to combos, over a one that just tickle and is used sparingly for grey life capitalizing, near stun, etc.
Not saying Ibuki or Ken should get changed, for clarification.
different playstyles
i know youre asking for consistency on one universal thing being overheads but then you also have to look at the other tools those characters have
ken and ibuki arent frame trap heavy like karin
I’ll just take Balrog’s command overhead. That shit won’t catch anyone but it’s like pure power being drilled into their skull.
EDIT**
What’s everybody’s top 5 going into season 2? I’d like to see what everyone thinks. Mine is probably something like
Akuma - Urien - Cammy - Ibuki - Necalli
Honourable mentions going out to Balrog and Laura but idk how they’ll fare.
I think it’ll be an Akuma, Urien, Necalli top 3 or something if things stay as is. Necalli was already top 3 material and he got some really good buffs.
It’s really not that complicated the overhead thing. They just want certain characters to focus on safer overheads than others.
THE USUAL thing regarding overheads is that if you get a safe on block overhead, it has slow start up (usually 26 to 28 frames or more) and very reactable. That’s the offset to it being safe on block, but a safe on block overhead at least means you can always continue to block, tech throw or mash EX DP after its blocked. Which during meaty situations or certain hit stuns you can throw them in and make them harder to see. Ibuki’s specifically can go into jab, LK DP or target combo in the corner. Meaning she gets more off of a hit overhead than anyone else without any charge and makes the slow start up plenty worth it.
Chun Li and Ibuki both originally had the only 2 safe on block overheads in season 1 that didn’t require a charge (something I really liked about both characters). Urien and now Necalli has this as well if they charge (Necalli in V Trigger) and become plus on block and lead to combos. Ibuki has traditionally always had a slower, plus or safe on block overhead that goes into combos so she’s just following tradition really with hers.
If you want an overhead that’s difficult to react to (typical Ryu/Karin/Birdie/Rashid overheads), you have to space it near max range or catch them low on meter to make it safe on block. That’s already what you should have been doing before, you just have to do it more now.
The reason I decided to main Vega:
My execution was terrible (hint hint, it still is). Now you might say, “wait, Spinning Beat some of Vega’s combos require you to have decent execution”. While this is true, when I first started playing SFV I realized how big of a role the V-System played. Most characters I wanted to play had basically combo extenders for V-Triggers (Chun-Li, Karin, Ryu, Necalli, Laura and Cammy) and for some reason those VTC combos made me so frustrated because they would be so long and I would friggin drop them all the time. With so many v-triggers being similar I was honestly contemplating not playing this game at all.
Then I tried Vega. His V-Trigger was simply cancel a normal into HP+HK and juggle into super. Or anti-air into super. That’s when I said “YES! I’m picking this guy!!!”. The backflips, suplexes and the humorous borderline sexual harassment towards females post victory were just the icing on the cake. Vega might be hard to use, but he is the only character I can use all their potential with due to the nature of the v system.
If a combo requires you to walk forward at any point, I will fucking drop it guaranteed.
So I brought SFV over to my friends house to play. He and his brother are casual players at most, with his younger brother barely being able to perform specials. My friend on the other hand, has a decent grasp of SF. QCF, QCB etc aren’t a problem for him.
So his little brother picks Ken and beats the absolute life out of him. Man I’ve never seen so many CH signs at one time. Ken St.Mk into Cr.Mp is a thing, even at beginner level.
And now for the funny part:
I was laughing at him so hard he turned the TV off. Refused to put it back on because I wouldn’t let up. Needless to say his salt was so real that we sat on his couch just laughing for five whole minutes at him. Ah Ken, you never disappoint.
