Seems like the good players are adjusting quite well and the bad players are where they were before, so I dunno.

that doesn’t really mean anything. Graham Wolfe was one of the best ST players ever and he appears to be only okay at 5. I have a friend who is top 5 in the US at 3s who sucks ass at SF5. none of these good players could beat either of them at their own games. but only so much transfers over.

based on what Dime_x told us he’s likely at least competent in several other SF games. it’s just that the game works different from those games and he’s trying too much to take habits from those games and bring them over. just gotta discard your expectations/assumptions and play the game for what it is. or don’t play it, either of those are fine!

I’m not really trying to make the game into something it’s not. I’m taking it for what it is to me. At least I think I am. I’m using tactics in this game I wouldn’t use in other games or that I haven’t used for years. The problem for me is learning the mind of the weak player/scrub… Both in this game AND online. I’m an arcade kid from so cal and tbqh we don’t have players this “kind” of weak at arcades. No one just uses jumps as a mainline strategy so it has taken me by surprise when mixed in with neutral bypassing and lots of sweeps. The spacings are all off as well and the timings on jumps seem different.

But I read yesterday that one could get silver just by anti airing… And I tried it… It kinda worked a bit but the players would adjust and stop jumping but continue with the sweeps and other stupidity… While throwing in jumps at weirdo timings and spacings… But then something clicked and I realized what my real mistake was and how to correct it. I was trying to play bad players like they are good because they were showing me a mind for mixups and a level of special move mastery that I usually correlate to someone somewhat competent… What I didn’t realize was that these are good players USING BAD TACTICS. once I put 2 and 2 together it clicked. It all made sense. This is something I’ve never been exposed to because I’ve never really played streetfighter online. I played 4 like maybe a grand total of a week online in its entire lifespan.

But that’s not all it was. It’s also positively the lag that has been causing jitter that has been slowing my reactions down. So I went into training mode and just did AA’s against a Ryu that mixed up fireballing or jumping or dashing. I learned to just look for the jump no matter what and that I don’t actually have to worry about the fireball against these guys because THEY WILL jump sooner or later, and since they have no actual footsies I also don’t have to worry about the dash. The best they can do is throw/frame trap but since they are at heart weak players, the mixups are very obvious. I still blame the game because I now have to grind bad players in a boring way to get to the decent players… I hate grinding of all types but I like playing against good players so… Yeah. And in any decent game it just should t have been this hard to beat players of this level. It went from very frustrating and depressing/boring… To not having to look at the screen to win almost… And I put that on capcom. The beginner level strategies are to good and worse still, a lot of these players will be stuck in this mindset and never bust out and that’s almost as frustrating to know that these players will just give up before they can see the good side of streetfighter.

Tldr

The game rewards low level strategies and play way to much IMO and this will lead to players not getting better and not giving streetfighter a fair shake.

Honestly since you said you NEVER played online, all your whining makes way more sense. if you think this is bad lol…man you would have HATED SFIV online.

SFIV online was a joke unless you played a tourney goer with an awesome connection.

BTW the true warriors with a strong desire to learn the game WILL stick around. I hate that you want Capcom to hand hold mother fuckers into becoming good. Or that you seem to hold them responsible for lag affecting the meta. Lag changes the game in fighters unless your connection is godlike. That is no gaming companies fault, but the nature of fighters themselves.

Yes, I am an elitist. First tournament I ever went to for SFIV, I destroyed everyone I played. Arturo Sanchez was the only one who beat me. I didnt know what an OS was back then and when I asked him, he looked me dead in the face and told me that I would figure it out.

At first I thought that was a dick move, but now I realize why he did that. Because he more then likely saw my potential and didnt want to just throw me a fucking bone. He wanted to me to push through on my own and learn the hard way same as he did when he came up. And guess what? I DID figure it out and I didnt blame him or the game.

BTW there is no such thing as a safe sweep on block. cept MAYBE Claw at max spacing.

Highland, have you watched Damdai play sfv at all? Plenty of zoning. Good zoning heavy Ryu to watch. Opposite of how fourwude plays.

Yeah I’m pretty decent at DPing the full screen stuff, I’ve not had much exposure to matches, just the grind so far.

Birdies EX “thing” that flys across the screen is quite hard to DP though, seems like he grabs you before he gets to you. I’ll check that guy out.

I knew it would turn out this way. Bigger emphasis on throwing out medium and heavy normals is very much like the older games and the crush counters can make those heavies lead to stupid damage. .

Oh my holy bananas, yes. This. Watching Street Fighter streams that aren’t just two almost completely safe characters gently fanning at each other into knockdowns is so good.
