Pretty sure that’s a “skill required” tier list. Still retarded, though. They got Ken as low-tier when the dude requires hit-confirming for any sort of safe offense and Gief as high-tier when he is almost TOO straitforward.
the term “skill” is more than just execution, Zangief is not a traitforward character, you need great fundamentals and be very high skilled at reading your opponent to play him, you also need extreme good patience.
Give a scrub player Ken and the other player Zangief, you will see the Ken winning this match 99% of the time. Ken is still hard to master, but much easier than Zangief.
The list is still stupid, But Dhalsim and Zangief are High-skill characters, that’s for sure.
Not disagreeing about how Gief requires solid fundamentals to be successful overall, but any Gief scrub could beat a Ken scrub with nothing but 6HP and charged st.HP as long as he blocked a DP once in a while. I’d like to think SFV requires quite a bit of fundamentals from a player, regardless of character, to be successful. Even at amateurish levels.
Anyway, not turning this into a character pissing contest… having a skill-curve tier-list is retarded however way you look at it. Sounds like people trying to justify why they lose to me. “Well of course you won, your character is braindead”
I think the whole idea of “how much skill is required” is dumb so any chart like this will be doomed to dumbness from the start
ultimately the question just breaks down to “what is the tier list.” the stronger the character, the more likely you are to win in a field of equally skilled opponents at the highest levels of competitive play, not accounting for counterpick matchups.
anything below the highest level, and it means basically nothing. like oh Chun/Ryu/whoever are easy to play. Can you beat the 20 strongest players in the world with Chun right now? if no, then you don’t have the comprehension to make such a chart.
Matchup charts backed up with matchup analysis are like 1000x more valuable than that foolishness
Anyway, no character in this game is braindead at all, the game itself would not allow playing braindead like SF4 sometimes. I think a list like this could help newcomers for picking up a character.
So I have a 5 game win streak with Ryu and I’m at 1587 LP. Along comes a higher ranking Karin and I’m like “let’s see what happens…” I beat him and what happens?? The dude just hecka RAGE QUIT on me out of a record 6 wins. I’M HECKA MAD. I’m saltier than win I lose!! CAPCOM PLS!
