"The Street Fighter League" Where did it go!

First of all, this thread was made:

For the pure fact that I felt that the league was slowly fading away and being slowly forgotten. If we are trying to improve the fighting community and keep people interested, not finishing events such as the league is certainly not going to help. If we start something and dont finish it, who in the future is going to want to participate knowing well there is not going to be an outcome.

The comments in this thread are nothing shocking, everyone knows everyone here, so anyone that is reading should know people speak their minds around here.

As far as my concern…
I have spoken with Ranma and he made it clear that the league is going to be brought to a completion and the winners will be awarded.
… And personally, I do think I had to make a thread about this because I strongly believe I would of gone nowhere If i’d had just asked you in person. But thats far from any relevance, the point is that the league will be finished and winners will be determined, and thats basically what I and the people that participated, wanted to know.

Since ranbats and PZ got involved somewhere in the discussion then I think I should comment on that.

I dont know why exactly Lay quit managing the ranbats, but from what I know, PZ didnt want to comply or pay any mind to his inputs on the sticks. That brings me back to the purpose of making a thread, cause sometimes you just dont get nowhere even if you’re right infront of a persons face. Some sticks are obviously faulty and should be fixed, thats basically what an arcade place does.

As far as the MvC2 ranbats…
I agree with Kensou, what was the purpose of switching Marvel ranbats to thursday. When we began the Marvel ranbats we held it every Friday, and we managed to get enought people almost every friday, now we hold it on thursday every other week and we still dont manage to get a ranbat off.

And thats just whats going on…

hey big chris, i’m not trying to insult anybody or make anything personal or be anybody’s ‘master’. i saw something that i didn’t agree with and shared my thoughts. that’s the point of an open forum. for the record i did agree w/ some of the stuff that gene had to say but it might have been blown a little out of proportion.

i was going to post my 2 cents on what everybody’s said, but it’d be best to just show up to pz on sunday and try to come to some mutual understanding if possible.

This thread went from the league, to PZ sticks, to indirect shit talk.

But i’m glad people feel they need to voice their opinions. Honestly as one of the new wave players in the Houston scene…i’ve seen less care and participation gradually on behalf of the players…It could be just cause i live too far away, or because that’s the way it really is.

Either way, this thread shows me a glimmer of hope that people still might care…i hope you guys back up what you’ve all said here by showing up on Sunday.

and about sides, i don’t care about all that bs…it’s a community…we’re supposed to be all for one , i for one know you can’t stop people from disliking you without reason but i hope everyone can pull away from their respective “cliques” for a few hours and get all this crap straightened out like adults without random shit talking and name calling…cause it gets nowhere… and it creates random drama…cause i for one am tired…i just want to go back to showing up and knowing people will be willing to play games without secluding myself to a few people as friends.

BLAH BLAH BLAH! … any marvel action tonight?

asking here cuz the houston thread looks like it died

you guys sound like Dallas drama. hahahaa…

This thread could blow up to 10 pages and still not reach Dallas drama.

$3

hahaha…daniel, u nubcake.

next check, i’m going down there.

In regards to everybody’s perceived “whining” and whether or not they get a lack of respect from PZ or myself. It sounds as if everybody wants PZ to be Stargate. Ya know what, if everybody really felt that way, then why the hell didn’t you guys support it more? It died because people stopped going, stopped wanting to spend money out there. You HAD the perfect arcade to replace all your parts and etc to your hearts delight, and you all killed it. So forgive me if I don’t feel any sympathy because shit isn’t replaced daily for you guys. Was everything working at the Regional? Asides from the short button on CvS2, which they tried to replace numerous times? I care about shit working at major events, because those happen to be the days that we actually support PZ.

Those that have been to their bi-weekly car meets know that they already get close to the same amount if not more business twice a month during those meets, that we do every other month, if that. Including Showdown 06, we’ve held about 5 Regionals. So for 5 days out of the what 298 days we’ve past this year we were “supporting” PZ?

For tournaments, I always ran tournaments at what I thought were good venues. Is there any other place out there that would allow us to hold games we want to have, and stay open as late as we would need to? How many other arcades out there even have CvS2 or 3rd Strike or the latest Guilty Gear? People may not want to hear that they are whining, but everybody was definitely spoiled by Stargate. Make no mistake, PZ is not Stargate, but then again NO other arcade was either.

In light of people’s perception of me on this thread, and what not, I’ll only make this response. For over 7 years now, I’ve been in this scene, I didn’t create the scene in Houston, but me and Javi helped push it to become recognized nationally, and in a small way internationally with the help of everybody here. I’ve never claimed to be the sole reason for any of this, and I’ve sacrificed alot of things in my life to keep this scene alive without asking for much in return. For those questioning my ethics and morals, has there ever been an issue from my tournaments or events where money was stolen? In my 7 years of running tournaments, that has NEVER happened. So I do find that to be extremely insulting. I’ve donated and invested most of my savings into Showdown year after year just to break even. I’ve been through 2 relationships because of my dedication to this scene. I’ve gone through 4 different jobs because I’d rather put more time and effort into trying to improve this scene. And after 7 years, if this is the perception this scene and this community has of me, it makes me wonder if I was a fool and wasted my time. Years ago I had made a post saying I was going to retire from running tournaments for good. My plan was to work fulltime and work on a life with my gf at the time. But she insisted that I should do what I’m passionate about, my close friends told me the same. So now it comes to this.

PZ is not Stargate, so that leaves us with a problem. They can’t cater and be like SG, so they should do what they do best, run a business. The FGC scene in Houston doesn’t really amount to much in terms of overall business for PZ. So expected them to heed your complaints and daily equipment replacement is probably out of the question. After Showdown 2007 I will officially only handle events directly tied to Showdown from now on. This will include 4-5 Regionals and Showdown Championships. Javi told me when he had retired from running Regionals that it was time for the community to step up. Perhaps I was the coddling parent and didn’t want to undo the training wheels. But I guess now is the time to see who will step up and take over. If you all want this scene to grow, if you want it to continue, then people need to change straight up. Major League Gaming was ready to up and support Tekken and possibly other Fighting Games, but the ignorance of the players pretty much denied that from happening. Now Halo 2 and Smash Bros are making the money they gave out at Evo, per event! You want to be taken seriously? Ya’ll need to act seriously! You want respect? You need to give and earn respect! You think showing up once or twice a month and spending $10 or whatever really amounts to dictating your word over “anime fanboys” who show up and out spend your monthly expense per week or even per day? Money and support are the sole reason anybody will do anything for somebody else. In my opinion ya’ll haven’t done much save for a handful of individuals.

I’ve said my peace on this, but I’ll be at PZ most of this weekend and on Sunday if peeps still need to get at me.

Chris

basically, somebody needs to grow some ballz quick and run the tournies!!!

something i really dont understand is why did sg actually close down. that shit was mad fun when i was coming from galveston. i gotta say if people didnt support $7 friday night or whatever for free play with working sticks and now pay like $1 a game at pz with faulty shit that dont make sense at all. maybe its me or whateva but thats common sense peeps. i guess pz was the new hot shit with the card system or whateva but yall niggas didnt add up what yall was spendin there or something? to be honest they prolly dont give a fuck if any of us gamers stopped goin there cause they got other means of support but sg pretty much fell back on the players.

Also was everyone going to pz instead of sg at one point? i dont know if they had opened at the time sg was still there or not. if they was open when sg was then wtf yall was thinkin? i just wanna know cause i wasnt here when all the pz hype popped off.

nope, people weren’t playing at all when PZ opened…i was actually taking steps to learn marvel cause nobody was at sg to play 3s and cvs2.

Air Conditioning

To sum it up… laziness. And not on my part. I’m not gonna take any blame for SG being closed. I supported it as much as one man could. I was really dedicated even though I’m not the best. Alot of people were just too lazy to travel that far. They got lazy, maybe thinking SG would never ever close.

The only reason I wouldn’t go to SG Friday night was pussy. And no one can blame me for that shit. I love Marvel, love competition, and play anywhere it’s being played.

SG spoiled ALL of us… me included. But SG dying shouldn’t be the end all of end alls. US players make the scene.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand people not wanting to go to PZ. That’s one of the reasons you won’t see ME at PZ as much. That and the lack of transportation. I refuse to pay almost a dollar a game on one cabinet. Maybe if they had 2 cabinets. And maybe if most of the lazy ass Marvel players would get off there asses and actually show.

Owner of PZ: Do what you gotta do man. It’s a business and you should run it how you choose to run it. Not every business caters to every demographic and I can understand that.

Chris: You already know I give you major props for all you do, and don’t question why you do it and where you do. I’ll follow where you’ll lead… unless I can’t. To which point… I can’t. Right now atleast. I have the income, but no longer have the drive or patients.

But like I said, If ya’ll mofos wanna be fucking lazy and complain about sticks and wanting shit to be perfect… then don’t fucking play. Me on the other hand, I’ll play where ever the fuck ya’ll want me to play. Console, expensive ass PZ; as long as there’s competition. You lazy ass fucks let me know when ya’ll want to play and where and count on me being there… if I have my car.

I quit because controls were always shotty and they refuse to support certain games I play (CVS2, ST).

Some of us go every week. We never see YOU.

Last night: Me, Ranma, JohnP, Joe, Ivan, Vinny, CHARLIE, Evin, etc.

My 2 cents.

Of course I’m gonna sound bias because my team is in the lead but I feel we should still continue with the sf league. But it’s whatever the community decides on. I could understand how hard it must be to get a league match going. You need all the teams present and you need to do it at one venue. Around that time SG was dead and PZ opened up. So it’s easy to have the sf league slip outta the mind. Good thing Roland brought it up!

How did SG die? We all have our excuses. I was either broke like a joke or lacked transportation. Yeah lame excuses but I regret it. =\ SG was THE arcade for hardcore fighting gamers like us and we let it die.

We’re trying to see PZ in the same light but that’s not going to work. The way I view PZ, its a casual arcade to go to. It’s not catered to us, but to the average consumers who wouldn’t notice a button or a stick not working or doesn’t notice plunking down a dollar for a game most of us are used to paying .50 or even .25 (ST) for!

But that’s ok because they compensate for it by giving us a nice environment right? Wrong! Part of the environment is the community. The community have stated why they don’t support PZ, and John’s integrity doesn’t help them change their minds.

A few complaints that could’ve easily have been solved:
-Put controller ports in the tekken cabinets (Yeah, I know, it looks silly, but the community in AMERICA plays on pads)
-Leave cvs2 on a machine for play (For all I know John and Ranma simply hates the game so it’s not up. Honestly, for a dollar a game, that would be the only game coming close to warrant its price lol)
-Cost (As stated above, most of us are used to paying .50 to as low as .25 or playing at home for free. $1 a game is too expensive for a community full of broke fools!)
-Controllers (I can’t comment on this too much because I don’t go over that often anymore, but at that price you’d expect the controllers to be in working conditions at all times or soon after it was brought up)

I know John’s integrity is really high. He’s gonna do it this and that way. People are either gonna learn to like it or go away. I think most people are going way. Honestly, I don’t look at PZ as a arcade HARDCORE fighting gamers could go to anymore. It’s a CASUAL arcade to go to. What I’m wondering is if John minds this perception of mines or not (not trying to instigate anything.) =)

Anyways, I’m posting my thought’s because I know most people won’t show up for the meeting anyways.

Everytime I CAN go, and WILL go, I post. Why is it so hard for everyone else to do that?

How am I supposed to know ya’ll went last night? I stayed my ass at home and did nothing. With my car sitting in the driveway. Why? Cuz no one posted. Vinny and Joe have my number, so do you. So whatever, I really don’t want to hear that bullshit.

PZ is a hella long drive for me. I don’t have the luxury of living 5 min away like you. Bottom line, if no one posts, I’m not showing.

Cant make the meeting on sunday have 2 work. Bottom line from my post about pz is please fix the sticks. If they need the shit to fix the machine and u want to see how much the community supports the game take up a donation for new sticks and buttons for marvel. I know me and a couple of ppl from over here on the southwest will be willing to donate money towards sticks for our game. I may or may not get a car soon as soon as I get one I prob will go to pz more. But everytime I go out there I expect to drop nothin less than 50 bucks per visit. That is a lot. Gas from this side when it was high usually made the trip around that much. I know that pz dont consider the hardcore fighting gamers to be their main clientele. All I want is for them to fix the shit. Marvel being lowered from .50 from what I know is a pipe dream. The place is just high.

P.S. About u runnin events ranma I dont know if u took the money. Really dont care if u took the money or not involved in the event. I simply stated what the perception was. When u r not transparent in ur business dealings u invite these questions upon urself. In order to solve the questions about the league all u really had to do was simply just announce Im giving the money out on x date and thats it. By waiting around 6-10 months after the event was over now finally saying somethin it looks a little shady.

Bottom-line: People DON’T post. People just go.

Everytime I randomly show up on a Thursday or Friday - always people there playing.

Take a chance, we miss kicking your ass. :lovin:

wow. remember that saying back then. if you play at pz more then the prices will be lowered. hahhaa

trash sticks, that’s why i stopped going. controller ports would be nice if it was on there. i think you’d make alot more business. just my 2 cents.

i <3 aznhitler.
