Except KOF14. While Verse did fuck everything up, it was after the tournament. The actual tourney itself though was on the up and up…which was a first.

Everything about MK is cringy to me. It just seemed to be trying to be cool to 13 year olds for it’s entire life up until 11, and now it’s woke?
But it still has a bunch of gore-porn and lazy shit humor like lame fart jokes and punching people in the nuts so hard they explode.

One of the problems is that they are trying to fit every character’s story into the main one.

Tekken 7 actually managed to avoid that pitfall. (Fuck that narrator tho.) SC6 too.

Xrd didn’t really avoid that, but there were clear plot threads, so instead of fitting everyone in one thread, they split the cast in chunks. It worked imo.

If they had gotten retconned, them’s the breaks, it happens. But you’d at least have a cohesive story.

But you wouldn’t! THat’s the issue with most arcade modes. You have the same Final Bosses with the same stated goal, usually of winning a tournament or claiming some kind of ultimate power. Only one character in any game (or team for KoF and such) will achieve that!

You can’t make every ending canon without having a mode where everyone else has a different Final Boss, hence again…Alpha 2.

Not really. Take Sagat’s arcade mode in SFIV.

He begins the story trying to understand the reason of the fight itself. He then decides to join the tournament to fight Ryu. He fights Ryu and goes back home satisfied.

Seth doesn’t even show up outside of gameplay, the details don’t matter. What matters is the actual events. Sagat’s development and his fight with Ryu.

It’s really not that hard. You don’t need variable bosses.

2. Rose is 99% confirmed. The person who leaked Lucina and Poison said that he knew she was basically done but he didn’t understand why she wasn’t released.

3. I think Oro and C.Viper are like 65% confirmed due to rumors dating back to season 2 stating that they were being planned as free releases.

4. Rolento is a wtf one for me because he’s gotten crazy screen time between Alpha/CvS2/SF4/XTekken. Like the mans is in everything.

5. Elena is… not what I thought we’d get. I figured she’d be a SF6 character. She’ll probably be reworked so no more healing then run and hide tactics.

6. Season V is 3 women and 2 men. That’s unprecedented. The only reason why I think this can happen is because last season was fucking all over the place and made no sense anyway.

Also this will be the season that finally ends Capcoms sexism to women.

That being said if this is all wrong, I’m gonna be annoyed. I don’t want a new character. I really really don’t want a new character.

As far as I know, the few FGs that didn’t have any tourneys at all are SamSho, Art of Fighting, Under Night, Blazblue, Soul Calibur, Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, and some more I can‘t think of. There are some stories that began with tournaments and then dropped it.

It’s just way easier to make people fight if there’s a tourney going on.

Remember when Logan-sama was calling people dumbasses because they thought the story for SFV was over, and he guaranteed there was more to come soon? Was that 3 or 2 years ago?

He directly called me out on twitter when I said SFV was currently very disappointing after the post-kage media blackout. He went on to state I didn’t know shit and stuff was right around the corner.

There wasn’t anything for like, 7-8 months or so after that.
