The Street Fighter 3poxy Strike: Everybody at home but SF5 doesn't have Netcode

MEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Do you care about Arcade mode? Or story at all?

Because I can understand the disdain for that kind of content if you don’t, but if you do it doesn’t make sense.

I care about story. I even interconnect the narratives of character my concepts :upside_down_face:

Is this live footage of DC?

Story in SF is too random to care about. What’s even going on, when ,how ? The interactions between characters is laughable.

They may have something story wise but the execution is poor.Whenever i saw the interactions between characters in the arcade cutscenes i honestly thought all of them are mentally challenged.

And that’s the problem with V’s arcade mode.

If Capcom ain’t trying to be coherent when telling a story, why should I bother trying to understand it?

I don’t mind lore at all. My issue is that you want Arcade Endings to be this extra big batch of lore to tie everything together…but not ONE developer, ArcSys included, ever holds the sanctity of Arcade Endings up that high. They say an ending is canon? 9 times out of 10 it’ll be retconned to hell and back by the very next game.

The only game that did Arcade Endings right was Street Fighter Alpha 2. You know why? Because it was damn near the only game out there that didn’t tie everything into one all-consuming “story” or event. Everyone had their own thing that they were doing irrespective of everyone else in the cast. Alpha 2 DIDN’T have a big story or plot, every character was doing its own thing which is why Alpha 2 is the only FG that did it correctly.

But according to the Story Thread, the Story is awesome and without fail.
There is nothing wrong with it.
Not even when Guile and Nash stand in the same room and interact with each other…
oh wait.

FG stories are always cringe inducing for me. There’s so much work put into character design and everyone looks so cool.

Then they take those cool characters and put them in the most heavy handed, convoluted poo-poo garbage story writing. The same reason I can’t stand most anime, falls into the same trap a lot of the time.

Lol try any major city rn. I’ve seen at least a dozen videos of cops acting like chodes without provocation in the past couple days.

I get Philly news down here and the protests/riots are like 90% of the news rn. You barely even hear about covid anymore.

Soul Edge had a bomb story.

Then it became “Everybody Hates Nightmare” and things went to shit.

That’s mainly because in a group of 20+ people, not everyone should be interconnected. For example why would Ryu give a rat’s ass as to what Blanka’s doing? Why would Elena care about dealing with Shadaloo?

Characters have their own lives, doing their own things and have their own goals. But instead of most arcade modes pursuing that, TOURNAMENT ARC, EVERYONE WINS!

Soul Calibur 6’s story is pretty good. If only because they retread on SC1’d and some of 2’s plot but I think it was delivered well.

If they added a bum arcade mode for V with what if endings, I wouldn’t have minded that. It’s standard.

They went the extra mile to add a mode for every single game in the franchise with buffed versions of the boss characters and did the same shit.

If they had gotten retconned, them’s the breaks, it happens. But you’d at least have a cohesive story.

One of the problems is that they are trying to fit every character’s story into the main one.

And i respect the effort, since fans want to see their own character get some attention , and not just Ryu shoryuken 24/7 vs Bison and GG. But throw in together so many scenarios it really turns into a clusterfuck.

I feel like every FG story is just a series of contrived reasons to make the characters fight no matter how much sense it makes.

Just sayin’, but that’s probably because they actually put effort in it and wanted to make a cohesive story. :man_shrugging:

But you wouldn’t! THat’s the issue with most arcade modes. You have the same Final Bosses with the same stated goal, usually of winning a tournament or claiming some kind of ultimate power. Only one character in any game (or team for KoF and such) will achieve that!

You can’t make every ending canon without having a mode where everyone else has a different Final Boss, hence again…Alpha 2.

Fighting games I think have cool stories:
Tekken pre lars
Art of Fighting
Fatal Fury
SamSho

Fighting games that might have cool stories, but there’s too much shit to parse:
Guilty Gear
BlazBlue
GranBlue
Under-night

Fighting games that had cool stories, but threw on too much bullshit to keep it interesting:
Street Fighter
Virtua Fighter
Post Lars Tekken
Soul Calibur

Fighting games that don’t need stories, but probably do, and I’m assuming that they’re wack or don’t make any sense at all:
KOF
MvC

Throw MK in that 3rd category
