The Street Fighter 3poxy Strike: Everybody at home but SF5 doesn't have Netcode

You actually just reminded me…how are you liking Fan-Fare Kitana? Last time I played that was by far her worst variation.

Yup! I’m down to clown.

I’m actually considering building a PC. I guess most of the games with usable netcode are more populated on there.

But till then, 30A on PS4 actually holds it down pretty well

8 bit and 16 bit gamea had stronger melodies all around. The reason being is that they had. Game memory couldnt hold massive audio files so you really had to send a message with your music.

Now that you can do CD quality music in games, it’ll vary. You can do a lot more but you can also do a lot more bad.

There’s a reason SF2 music is still strong. You can do new arrangements of it and it holds up.

I’m just saying tho like I can still remember so many themes from back in the day. I’m not even talking about fighting games. Like I remember a bunch of Nintendo games really setting the tone with their music. Even some more obscure games like Medabots brought that heat.

I have well over 1000 hours on SFV and I can only remember a couple of the themes, and those feel just really mid?

Kitana’s one of my favourite characters and I loved her Assassin variation in MKX. I hated it in 11 last time I played because you couldn’t do 60% of the cool shit you could do but that’s just because the combo system was gutted between games.

At least this time I was ready to be disappointed going in. I hate stance characters so that’s a no for her 2nd variation, and I don’t remember her 3rd, but I really rely on the ground square wave in her 1st for punishes and combo enders.

The flutter was very useful in X for extending combos and I didn’t realize until right now but that’s probably not the case in 11. I haven’t gotten far enough with her to lab those uses yet.

Also, I do like the Royal Protection if custom variations aren’t a thing. To be honest, Jade (followed by Shao Kahn) is my favourite character in 11, but all of her (their) variations are shit. If custom variations ever become allowed, I’m swapping Royal Protection for the upwards fan, and having a custom Jade as a secondary to deal with zoners. Since that’s not an option, it’s probably good to have Royal Protection in my kit.

Nah bruh, MvC3 music was fire. Captain America theme was lit as fuck and got you hype. :triumph:

Capcom still gots it when they give a damn.

Super skrull theme is fucking art. :weary::ok_hand:t5:

Royal Protection is fireball dispersal with the damage buff right?

Lol ground square wave is definitely missed in her other variations. It’s one of the moves that should be base kit imo, since it’s very clearly supposed to be her combo ended.

Oh yeah Jade and Kitana (and Kotal) are my favorite characters. I just didn’t like Fan-fare because of how linear it was. She can do like 33% of any touch with KB and lift, but that’s it. She has weak zoning, no mix, weak pressure, etc.

Also on the stances thing, I hate stances too but Mournful Kitana isn’t really a stance character like say SF4 Gen. Its better to think about Sai stance as a bunch of different special moves that just require and extra button press. Like one of those special moves that have multiple follow ups.

I agree with all of that and yeah not just fighting games the whole time I’ve been sitting here trying to come up with something recent that had stuck with me.

And there’s probably something to do with perthos point, I was listening to a gaming podcast and they discussed how a ton of the appeal of old games was from the limitations because they brought charm and nowadays they can make full blown music but it ends up sounding like a generic form of whatever genre they’re emulating. I’m paraphrasing but it was much more in depth.

@Eskills yeah mvc3 had a couple jams, but I can’t lie I don’t remember but a couple themes from it. I’m going to go back over it I’m sure I forgot a few. And that goes back to what we were saying about remembering some of the more recent stuff.

Also, I think she’s still pretty low in the tiers but I heard she got buffed a bit in March so maybe that variation is a bit better than when you played? I saw people saying that variation was better now from that buff (whatever it was).

I ran though a bunch of characters I like and this was on the variation that felt like something I could tolerate. I swear these tournament variations were picked by someone pulling abilities out of a hat.

It’s like they didn’t want anyone to be busted so they spread the good 3-4 abilities through all of the variations and if one tool was particularly strong, they threw in a counter ability to nerf it.

That and the lack lustre combo system is the worst part of this game compared to X. Yesterday I tried to treat it as its own game (for probably the first time) and enjoyed it more, but while the animations were much worse in X and I hated the dark/bland colour scheme, I could lab combos in it for hours like it was an MVC game. It does focus more on neutral and defence though, which is fun, just a different kind of fun.

Finally, I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for good visuals and cool shit. While a lot of the animations are still jank (though they’re the best NRS has done), the character designs and stages are cool as fuck. I also love all the fan service stuff… I shouldn’t be influenced by that stuff like a sap, but I am.

To be honest, that’s part of why I keep coming back to 3S. I’m starting to not like air parries and [scrub] the strict inputs are killing me [/scrub], but that game oozes style with the awesome sprites, themes, and stages.

No reason to be sorry you like what you like. I definitely love the way 11 looks. If nothing else it’s a huge upgrade from X.

And yeah my info is probably out of date. Haven’t checked TYM since last year

Edit: Tbh I hate 11’s neutral tho. Reminds me too much of SFV.

Yeah… all of this still applies to be honest. Her amplified fan toss did become a mid at some point, but I had a hard time competing against some other zoners (like Cassie) yesterday.

Her strings seem okay for pressure (but I’m a noob so I don’t know), but yeah, she has no overheads outside of her short hops, and I think she has two strings that end in one. No OH buttons.

Yeah, I need a PC as well. Fucking master race was right all along.

Really, I want something I can reliably lab MVC2 with and maybe get a VPN so I’m more comfortable sending my IP out to people for games.

But I’d be happy just labbing that every few days. Even if my only matches are against the AI.

I also want to play the MLP shit, and wouldn’t mind having the option of playing SG on a system that has at least a second person to round out the playerbase.

Wrong, because Gill’s SFV theme is fire and a remix of his best SF3 theme.

Nile is leaps and bounds ahead of his 3S generic boss-sounding theme.

Truth be told, we could be playing 30th or SG already if you had anything but a Mac n’ Cheese for a PC.

Ironically, the games with good netcode are old and super light, so a budget PC can run them pretty well.

It’s definitely a worthy investment to build a good one though because you get to run better emulators and their own perks, and the Riot FG is coming out sooner or later.

Perth is right, and I wanna add that Nintendo still puts some real good music out there.

Even that fucking atrocity of a game called Pokémon Sword and Shield has the best Gym Leader theme by a mile.

It is very reliant on frame data and up-close scrambles and momentum like V is.

There seems to be a bit more defensive options though, but I’m not good enough to utilize them yet.

Awesome. I’ll let you know when I think I’ll be on.

I have the week off but a lot of stuff around the house to start doing and not sure when I’ll be done.

Already spent too much time in here this morning

The main problem that both games make is Krushing Blow/Crush Counter. So many games I’m Kotal Khan and the game looks like this.

Blocked Disc
Blocked Disc
Advancing mid
Blocked Disc
300 damage disc krushing blow

Just so many times where you just lose 1/3 of your HP to a random counter hit.

Also i really hate the anti-zoning. Like you have to play the entire game around certain characters like LK or Scorpion being able to travel fullscreen instantly.

Also I know I’m playing into the stereotype, but I hate the abundance of defensive options. Playing games like GG has made me more open too then, but I hate how they’re tied to auto regenning meters separate from the offensive bar.

I never even played 2nd impact but I still think that version is better than 5’s. But thanks for the insight though because now the new one makes more sense.
3rd strike is still the best one obviously.

Capcoms sound team has a Spotify page and I’ve been going through their OST’s but they don’t have all the street fighters.

Yeah, these are all good points to be honest.

I haven’t run into too many people doing counter KBs on me yet, but I was using Kitana’s B142 string to KB people on whiffs and I had fun… Though, for the most part we were all playing “honest” games because we were all somewhat new that it was easier to play a regular neutral kind of poking/footsie game.

The times it matched me up against good players was ridiculous though. Like, I’ve never been stomped so hard in a fighting game ever. I’m talking like perfected in 10 seconds shit, both rounds, consistently.

So, for these reasons, I still don’t really get what the meta is, other than general FG stuff. Also, as I mentioned a few days ago, this game is so different from other 2D games that it’s just hard for me to tell anyway, even watching high level matches.
