So sad.
That’s the one consistent of pretty much every character i play. Must have a command grab.
Not a live or die rule but having that pre built mix up is hard to give up once you’re used to having one.
If you wanna keep gobblin’ on Frost’s todger keep it to discord, kthx.
As per SamSho
Shiki > Iroha… unless Iroha is disgustingly top tier like in 6, then fuck it.
More fighting games should have short haired, classy dressed, fireball chucking waifus.
King brings joy and happiness to everyone!
I’ve never actually mained a command grab character before. The most offensive power I’ve ever had in a main since I started with FGs is 3S Ken, who has two comboable overheads. Everyone else is about throws, and tricking people into pressing bad buttons. It can be done, but it takes work against a disciplined opponent.
So my initial reaction to actually getting to open people up almost for free by comparison to what I’m used to, was something along the lines of “I HAVE SO MUCH POWER AHAHAHAHA”.
I always fucked with them a little before in characters like Makoto and Abel.
All the characters i have played consistently in V have had one though. Necalli, Honda and Birdie.
He’s back!
This made me think of this song… Akhos is our slim shady
I need some help in regards to what to do to lab playing smart defence, especially in the corner. Does anyone have some pointers?
Summary
I really don’t know what to do. If I try to block and not press buttons, I end up getting thrown into the corner or mixed up, and I can’t seem to study my opponent well enough to find any patterns that let me feel comfortable in spotting a clear opening. It’s especially hard when good players don’t often do the same thing twice in a row.
I get to the point where I know I’m going to get eaten anyway, so I might as well mash some sort of reversal to try and find an opening and at least see if I can reset to neutral a bit, but I realize for as many times as it works, it is more likely to fail and get me killed quicker… I’m just likely going to get killed anyway so it doesn’t matter, but ultimately, finding a way to get out of the corner/pressure without as much risk would be the best scenario.
So, how do I lab this? I’ll be honest. I do wonder if it’s a lost cause. This has been my biggest struggle in fighting games since I started playing SFV online in S2. I’ve been struggling with the same shit for 3 years and doubt I have made any progress after the first six months.
That’s not to say it’s my only weakness. I definitely drop a lot more confirms and conversions than i’d like which isn’t helping me get out of these scenarios, and I also have ridiculously obvious patterns (from repeating strings/buttons, to repeatedly pressing buttons at predictable times (like right after a block-string), and even reacting to the same scenario with the same tactic - despite getting blown up for it before), but when I’m under heavy pressure, in the corner or not, is really where the match really seems to swing out of my reach.
Now, possibly being so predictable is what’s getting me countered and knocked down to begin with? I don’t know.
TL;DR - I can’t seem to recognize my opponent’s patterns and find an opening in their pressure. I am also predictable, which is likely getting me countered/punished/mixed up more often, forcing me to deal with this pressure regularly. Any help would be appreciated.
I’ve created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to

They want Akhos, I’m chopped liver
Well if you want Akhos, then this is what I’ll give ya
A slice of cheese pizza, hitboxes, and frame data
What about best girl Leona though?
Never enough respect for the military ladies.
Leona’s hella cool. One of my favorite SNK ladies.
King’s still #1 though.
Leona is pretty cool.
She is among the best girls SNK created among King, Shermie, Yuri, Mature, Vice and Chizuru.
Go back and watch your matches if possible. If not try to recreate them as best you can in training.
Look for the patterns then. Its much easier to study stuff when not worrying about actually playing the game.
Try to understand what your opponents characters options are in the moments you are being pressured. I bet they are stealing turns in there somewhere.
Edit…
And its a cliche but its true. If you are in the corner having to defend only then you must have made a few errors already to be there. Look at ironing those mistakes out too.
Thanks, I keep meaning to save my PSN video clips after my 3S sets but keep forgetting lol. I’ll be sure to do that next time and analyze.
Edit: and yeah, I’m definitely in the corner for a reason. I sometimes walk back a bit to buy some space, but tried to limit that last night. Pertho’s a good player though and I just always ended up there, usually after a good knockdown or two or a throw. I definitely need to watch my matches again to see how I’m getting tossed/hit so easily.
So, the thing about being put in the corner is that it’s really really bad and even really good defensive players lose to weaker players on occasion if they get cornered. Your opponent has lots of options, you have fewer, the risk-reward is heavily skewed towards the guy who can actually move and gets better rewards in terms of both damage and oki. Even if you on paper know the “correct” options, sometimes you have to just guess. And you will guess wrong every now and then.
Assuming you have labbed out the different options, the solution here isn’t actually labwork. It’s playing a lot of matches, getting put in the corner a lot, losing a lot, and learning from that. Eventually you will get better at this stuff, especially if you make a conscious effort to recognizing patterns. Plus, if you can recognize what player types are likely to go for particular types of offense more often, or what sort of option they’re likely to go for in a particular situation (do they have meter? How’s the health situation? Do they need to make a comeback or can they chill and take the positional advantage? etc), you’re likely to guess correctly more often, plus allow you to pick the defensive option that’s least likely to lose you the round.
But yeah, sometimes things just go wrong when you’re in a bad spot. You gotta just shrug it off sometimes.
Thanks!
Another thing to mention is that Pertho is also just better than me one on one. There were a few times when he was in the corner and he was still pressuring the hell out of me and winning, lol. I couldn’t even pressure him in the corner, so of course I’m getting nuked when I’m in it.
Anyways, yeah, I definitely need to lab out all of the various scenarios, as well as analyzing what I’m doing wrong… I’m still sweeping, like automatically, after a block string and getting blown up for stupid shit on my own. Just some bad habits I can’t seem to carve.
This is easy to solve in three easy steps:
- find a stick
- hit yourself across the fingers whenever you do that
- repeat until solved
