Iām going to set the record straight now: Vega is not good and if you think he is youāre wrong. Anyone that seriously thinks heās good, (let alone top tier) has not spent a day, and probably not even an hour, playing matches with him.
This shit comes up every year even though he gets nothing but middling buffs after getting clapped in S1 and no results at high level basically ever.
Iām tired as fuck of this discussion and this fake hype around the character. Of course he isnāt unplayable, but niggas have no idea what they are talking about when they mention him.

As in the fans think itās filler because they donāt like it or because they donāt take it as cannon?

Couple of things:
Summary
Trunksā Arc (which Iāll refer to as TA from here on) is a major setup arc for the proceeding part of DBS. Yes, they did introduce Zenos, which in its own right is huge because it sets up entire plot points regarding the destruction of universes or even wars between the two Zenos themselves. The story practically writes itself. We are also more definitively introduced to a more vertical multiverse, so we have Universes 1-13, and now multiple timelines too, where those 13 universes are different. Thatās another setup point for many arcs to come I imagine. It also retcons/refines Potara fusion and the dynamic between Gods of Creation and Destruction; world building. Weāre also introduced to the idea that every Saiyan has their own unique application of their abilities and character development through Vegetaās speech to Black. This was further built upon in the ToP and in the Broly movie through the constant surpassing of oneās limits. While we knew Saiyans had potential, we now know why there are varying degrees of success for training in equal parts - some just apply/utilise that skill better.
Purified God Ki as represented through Black is something not yet built on and very sparsely even touched on at all, so Iām sure itāll be a plot point that will be forgotten, but itās there for the using.
All in all TA has been super instrumental in setting up arcs in the immediate future and probably arcs to come. If weāre being technical, then saying that we need landmark forms to quantify the impact of an arc will just lead to more complaints. Itās why Gohan SSJ2 in Cell was necessary, but nothing of the sort happened here.
Skipping over it would also achieve just as little and probably lead to equally campy narrative alternatives, so at least this gives us an idea of whatās to come.

Funny enough I disagree that that arc is filler, but itās also where I stopped watching the series. I enjoyed the Super stuff before that but at some point they are on bad future earth and I realized I just didnāt give a shit what was going on.
At that point I was already skipping episodes waiting for the show to pick up and it just never did.
