The Street Calibur 5 Lounge: The Soul Burns But not as Hard as the FGC is Burning

SFIV is without a doubt an awful game.

Vtriggers are shit, but if I had to choose I’d take em over unblockables, vortex and option selects. 1frame links can go fuck themselves too.

SFV ain’t good, but it’s a step above IV at the least.

The only thing that SFV has over 4 is visual design.Everything else is worst in terms of gameplay.

4 has a lot of flaws but at least it was more fun, and that’s the point of a video game.

Marvel 2 is the Gawd Game for a reason. Even people who love their game can still point out how shit is wack in some places though.

ST and MvC2 are hilariously wack but still funner and more rewarding than a lot of newer games.

I’m for sure never letting people downplay how shitty a lot of the game was. Same with SF4. SF4 has had a goofy revisionism hit it where suddenly the whole of the game’s lifespan was how it played during its last year. Suddenly all the wack stuff about it is “magically” not relevant when you bring up when the game was being turbo wack.

But there’s some good things to be said about needing execution and other stuff. The neutral in the game was also a lot better than SF5’s.

SF4 with the SF5 button buffer would be way more enjoyable.

Both have shitty gameplay. V is less shitty with a much lower barrier of entry.

Which is more fun is debatable, but I’m sure Juri, Makoto, Rose, Sagat mains are incapable of an unbiased decision looking at each as a whole. :joy:

Idk…

What is fun and not is subjective, but for a game with such shitty gameplay ( as you put it ) as SF4 it sure did a good job to revitalize the series as well sustain the FGC community.

I think SF4 was a flawed product with many enjoyable aspects. I personally liked it a lot.

SF5 is weird in what it tried to do and what it actually ended up doing.

SF4 has system stuff that’s maddening. But you can get accustomed to system stuff and deal with it. SF5 has character specific nonsense that makes things weird.

Goofy system stuff is easier to acclimate to honestly. SF5 is always some different jankiness happening as soon as v-triggers hit.

Imo SFIV and V just shows people will play the new fighter no matter how shitty till another takes its place. :man_shrugging:t4:(Unless it’s MVCI lul)

Like I said before, if IV was so beloved it wouldn’t have died without so much as a whimper when V dropped.

Now that I’m an intermediate player, I appreciate SFIV a lot more than I did back when I was a beginner.

I still think the game is awful to learn from scratch though, and getting better than the level am I’m at now would require a lot of training mode motherfuckery I was never interested in back then and won’t be interested in now either.

Still, the ground game is fun in most instances and I really like doing Sakura tatsu loops, so it’s fine to play casually once in a while.

Check this out, the Shaq-a-roni !!! Thing is huge

Don’t say that, some people who do this might read this forum.

I think SFV will be remembered as bringing in the new wave of younger pro players. IV was still dominated by a lot of the old names at the highest level. Now we’ve got people like Idom and Punk.

And a lot of that does have to do with online play. As flawed as it is, the larger focus on an actual CFN changed the direction of the game.

On a personal level, the accessibility of V is what kept me invested in it. As much fun as I had with SFIV, I never felt like doing things like 1 frame links was a realistic thing I could attain. I don’t think it’s a bad thing that an average player can reliably perform a characters’ basic combos.

I think that’s why I’m so excited for the prospect of my favorite SFIV character coming to V. I prefer the mechanics of V, but have struggled to find an actual character I liked as much as Rose.

Sorry, fell down a PC config wormhole.

I def still owe you sets. Just really FG demotivated right now. I’m bookmarking games to grab on PC for when I break out of my funk and want to hit buttons again and 30th is on that list.

The problem I have there is that none of the 3rd Strike cast really sticks for me. I like some of them a lot objectively but play wise I dunno. May just need to throw chars at the wall and see what sticks.

What types of characters do you like to play?

A few weeks ago while streaming, I switched to SF4. Look, as someone that’s been on record of expressing my love for that game…that shyt legit felt terrible lollol. Everything felt like I was in 10x gravity.

When it comes to games I’d really have no qualms firing up and playing for hrs, it’ll always be MVC2/MVC3. Both of those games are truly timeless to me.

what’s your twitch channel?

Also yeah, SF4 (specially online) feels uggo as hell to play. You kinda have to run a bunch of games to get used to it.

Hey yo Sagat, there’s a new King of Muay Thai and he owns a Pizza Place!

Honestly I have no fuckin clue. It seems to vary wildly by game.

Best starting point for me is usually mid range control ish and then I can figure out how the engine pushes me.

Theoretically Ryu but in my heart more Guile.
