Steve had pretty brutal wall carries/splats in tekken 6. That was the greatest thing about him besides his b+1 counter hits for me.

Nah I didn’t get to last night’s Press event unfortunately so I might not be able to look at the game until release if there are no more near me. But it’s good to hear that Steve can carry well to the corner. I have a good feeling he’s well equipped to keep people pinned and apply strong pressure using , d/f+MP, Hellfire, f.MP > LP and Flicker jabs to keep people in check. With regards to the flicker jab problem, cancelling the Flicker Stance with crouch and going back into it could solve our timeout woes. Another thing to maybe look at.

Seems that people looking to pick up Steve are partial to putting in some work and I really think that it’ll pay off 'cause he’ll definitely need it. Though I do think GGM could be on the money with partners in the long run. Synergy and covering weaknesses/matchups in open play is going to be very important. Unfortunately for me, I’m stubborn and looking to make Steve and King work. To hell with Ken and his Tatsu!! :wink:

How do wall splats work in Tekken, in laymans terms? I really do get the impression that Steve has some sort of bonkers corner combo within him, but of all of the ideas I’ve messed around with, I’ve not found anything too spectacular yet. I was thinking that the Gatling Gun follow-up to ducking might work in the corner, or something like that?

Bizzle - I know what you mean about putting in work, and that’s why I start with Steve first, even though I think in my specific setup he might be better in second. I actually think getting in with Steve isn’t too hard. Ducking Body, Albatross Spin (remember you can cancel into it from Stand MP) and his walk speed / pokes make him a decent footsies character. However, if the match starts badly for you, and the opponent gets a quick in on you, then I personally fell I’m in trouble using Steve.

is steve’s command grab one of those grabs you can combo into on a grounded opponent or is it actually a command grab?

The wait is painful. Especially with no one playing Steve at a respectable level.

So I got the game at around 12 today and I just put the game down lol. So that’s like 11 hours? Well anyway onto Steve. I have trouble getting over 300 damage at the moment. 400 damage with counter hit crumple. his f 2+1 can be flicker cancelled like in tekken so it makes the link to cr.jab cr.fierce ex sonic fang alot easier. He seems like a character that can wall carry fairly well (i.e. ducking (qcf.short, qcf. forward) to skyscraper (strong while ducking) x3 which will make your enemy spin in the air for daaaaaaaays. He has options to get in really easily (good walk speed, ducking and sway counter is decent if countering pokes, godlike f 2+1 flicker cancel to whatever you want).

So day 1 diagnosis? He’s good at building meter, getting in and if you have good reads and can counter hit off albatross hook (quick step fierce) then you’re looking at a pretty damaging combo(at least 400). Also, his command grab (ducking fierce) can be tagged out in the beginning and you get a raw super of your choice! Currently with kazuya that does 533 damage which is a little more than half health it looks like.

Oh and to get the gears going:

340 damage 447 with super ender: F. Strong + Jab (flicker cancel hold back slide down back) Cr. Jab Cr. Fierce EX Sonic Fang (dp+pp) Cr. Strong Flicker Jab (Super!) Flicker Jab.

410 damage 494 with super ender: Albatross Hook counter F. Strong + Jab (flicker cancel hold back slide down back) Cr. Jab Cr. Fierce EX Sonic Fang (dp+pp) Cr. Strong Flicker Jab (Super!) Flicker Jab.

If i figure out how to record my tv with my webcam it’s a possibility i could get these combos on here.

idk if anyone cares, but steves command grab is amazing, you can command grab switch your partner mid grab and charge a super, i did it with hugo and got like 538 no gems and 610 with gems

the sway has okay recovery, i wouldnt say i have used it as an anti air, but upon the opponents jump in ive done weave in shoulder follow up and always hit my opponent, i think thats mainly due to them mashing a crouch jab, not sure though, so i would say no to an anti air, but you can try it anyways, and if your opponent is stupid you will hit them

Have a look at some of the combos I posted, most do over 300.

I feel stupid now for checking if you could use more than one Skyscraper in a combo… This sounds really fun to pull of in a match. Can I ask you to test how many Skyscrapers you can do and then connect Forward 2,1 (Ducking Body, Ducking Hook in this game) with please?

Also, what’s the best corner combo you can come up with? Would be really interested to know what he can do there.

The grab is amazing… when it lands. But it’s hard to land it (which is probably why it allows so much damage on the follow up). If you have any tech for landing it, please post up. Perhaps something sneeky like using a Tatsu or othe rmove to lockdown the opponent, then tag Steve in and time the command grab to hit just as the Tatsu stops hitting? Problem is that Gatling Gun (the command grab) does not grab crouchers.

Doesn’t Steve have an overhead with great range? cant you just train your opponent to stand more?

His overhead is great, but the grab happens off a duck, which is kind of slow and easy to react to. You could use EX Duck, but then that’s a meter spent, and another meter spent if you switch cancel.

Hmm, Guess you have to use it for punishes or just rely on reads? Really cant wait until march 6th, I get the feeling that it will all make sense once I am in the driver’s seat.

^^ As I said on the previous page, it’s good for punishing projectiles and raw tags. But hopefully some more tech will be found.

I seriously considering making the team of ryu and steve and i just wanted to know from what everyone has seen if they think the will be a good team or should I sub ryu for someone esle to better compliment steve because steve is going be my point character no matter what.

Has anyone checked out or seen his backdash? A lot of Tekken characters have amazing backdashes like Kaz, Raven, and Julia, and it would be cool if Steve at least had that for pressure.

You can connect F 2+1 afterwards! I did Cr. Fierce Ducking Skyscraper, Forward Ducking Skyscraper, Forward ducking Skyscraper, F 2+1 for 386 damage! You can duplicate the damage for this fairly easily so I could see this for many styling or maybe it’ll open more possibilities. After you get the hang of wall carrying with skyscraper juggle i could see this getting easier but the timing is a little tight.

I’ll report back after some time in the lab. I like these Cr. Fierce to skyscraper cancels. =D
