The ST match vids + discussion thread

I was mostly worried about whether the frame data for his cr.lk or bazooka knee or whatever was any different from N.guile. I don’t know shit about frames, but since there’s rarely any o.guile players, I had wondered if this combo was an ST guile specific thing. I’ll test it out the next time I’m at the arcades.

I’m not certain…but I think bazooka knee cancels from cr. lk with n.guile.

Could be wrong.

Never heard of a command normal that can be cancelled into.

I went into the FBA emulator and tried to do this combo many times against the Ken dummy and couldn’t do it once! LOL Apparently, you have to walk forward x number of frames before low short to knee thrust. (low short to knee thrust by itself is easy, but putting it into that combo I don’t get it.)

Damn, all that for a combo that doesn’t even knockdown, haha.

In that cabinet ST is set to turbo 4 :clapdos:

Playing on a head to head Japanese cab with the Japanese ST board with Japanese sticks etc is probably a wet dream for most of you, but for me it was a nightmare. I am starting to get used to it though. Who says you can’t teach an old dog (I’m 37) new tricks. I hope we can get more of the casuals recorded some of the best matches take place when people aren’t afraid to risk it all or try out some new tech.

BTW Japanese turbo 4 is the same a US 3 there’s a Full US cab right behind eltrouble, you can even hear me playing Chun (shes a screamer) over the recorded matches lol

Why are you guys playing at that speed? Isn’t Japanese preset speed 3 the standard?

I would prefer if it was set to turbo 3, as that is the tourney standard. I didn’t recognize the speed before, I thought it was just me that felt like the timing felt way too fast, didn’t bother looking at the speed :frowning:

I’ll talk it out with the guys at the next meet-up. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the standard is Jap-3, US-2?

iirc the US standard is US turbo 3 long time ago.
but since the arcade ST scene is still going strong in JP we kinda agreed to use their standard which is JP T3 US T2

We had a small Starcup format tournament last saturday in Lyon (France)

OK I’ve never spectated w/the hitboxes on but that shit was boss.

The hixbox’s showing up is pretty sick. It’s interesting to watch the box interactions during a live match.

Nakano Royal is continuing along with unconventional tournament formats. It’s already had a random character tourney and a wacky “bare chest” character-locked tourney (only Honda, Blanka, Zangief, Dhalsim, Fei Long, Dee Jay, Sagat, and claw were selectable) with a “no projectiles” character-locked tourney to come. And oldschool_BR already mentioned the last ratio match…

Tonight, there was a 2-on-2 ratio tourney. Details are courtesy of Toukon, who advertised the event. The rules stipulated a 7-point ratio limit and a 4-character limit per team. Teams were semi-randomly selected with an emphasis on veteran-newbie pairings. The interesting, evenly split ratio distribution was:

Ratio 4 - boxer, claw
Ratio 3.5 - Dhalsim, Chun Li
Ratio 3 - Ryu, Guile
Ratio 2.5 - Dee Jay, dictator
Ratio 2 - E.Honda, Fei Long
Ratio 1.5 - Ken, Sagat
Ratio 1 - Blanka, Zangief
Ratio 0.5 - T.Hawk, Cammy

o.Sagat is 3.5. o.Ken is 2.5. o.Hawk is 2. All other old characters are at the same ratio as their new counterparts.

Note that these tiers are intended for fun and shouldn’t be taken too seriously (e.g. o.claw is nowhere near as good as n.claw). These tourneys are experiments to make things interesting and the tiers probably don’t entirely apply to much of the casual play outside Japan.

Anyway, I don’t know if Nakano Royal is kidding but it always advertises its adult DVDs at these tourneys. I don’t remember seeing any when I was there but I didn’t ask either.

Results haven’t been posted yet but just sit tight and keep an eye out on supersf2turbo for videos in a couple of days: http://www.youtube.com/user/supersf2turbo
ST fans itching for more high level footage ought to be checking out his channel anyway since the speed and consistency of his uploads in recent years has been amazing.
For folks who want everything ASAP straight from the source, Nakano Royal has its own ST event channel on Nicovideo that will have the video first: http://www.nicovideo.jp/mylist/23779648

Japan has been holding some pretty interesting tourney formats with unique rule sets, and I look forward to watching the rest of the matches.

Have these unconventional tournaments been happening for awhile in Japan? Or is this more of a recent thing? Introduced to add some variety and fun into tournaments?
