check for stream archive if you missed it.

shit was epic as hell and don’t miss the ito vs otochun exhibition match. his deejay is just too awesome

They thought it would be fun to just pick him and form a team, but Futachan showed them. Fuck, yeah.

Edit: D and Otochun in there, that is already enough reason for me to watch the whole thing.

NCR 2010 ST Losers finals : ST Playeh (green ryu) vs DGV (blue ryu) Shout out to my boy ST Playeh for making 2nd place at his first offline ST tourney after this match it was STP vs Daigo for the grand finals

[ST @ NCR 2010] ST Playah vs DGV (Losers Final)

NCR 2010 ST tournament results
1.Daigo (N.ryu, balrog)
2.ST Playeh(the dominate force from GGPO since 08), (New ryu, Old Ken, Old Ryu)
3.DGV(new ryu)

Kasugai50 never disappoints. Great fights with player reactions too.
Some random balding dude who goes by “Tatsumaki Ryu” and uses O.Ryu put on an impressive performance, but the highlight of the tourney was definitely Futachan’s anti-Claw rampage. For a Ryu to counter Claw so well, and a triple team of Claw experts at that – he’s the Claw-killer. It’s to the point where he has pioneered the “new technology” of either

[]Rush punch -> fierce DP, or
[
]Walk forward -> fierce DP (no fear)

to stop at least half of the wall dives. Prior to Futachan I had not seen any Ryu do this. Not only is this quite effective, but his playstyle itself is highly unpredictable and aggressive/wacky in a Japanese kind of way. Like Umechin, but on steroids. Another thing to note is how he’ll often anticipate a ground move from Claw and do a diagonal hurricane over Claw’s head to try and tag him from behind. His approach to the matchup is the exact opposite of how ShootingD tries to turtle in the corner. Futachan instead is constantly moving/jumping around trying to land a knockdown and dropping in a few overheads here and there to increase damage.

I also liked how Tencho (Ryu) actually landed crossup ToD’s quite a few times. One trick he used was to get the opponent knocked down near the corner, where there was still a small gap between the opponent and the corner itself. He’d then do a crossup as ambiguously as possible, making it look like a normal frontal jump-in. However he actually crossed up perfectly, landing in the gap between the opponent and the corner, whilst the opponent invariably blocked the wrong way (expecting a frontal jump-in).

I have seen MAO stomp a Ryu trying to do that (rush SRK or SRK) over and over. I believe it is just that Futachan is a formidable player and does things better than the others. Still, he almost got locked into the wall dive madness like D was, but he managed to block the right away the very last time (which would kill him) and proceeded to win the round. He has also used other things, a few of which have been recommended by Dark Gaiden on his interview: diagonal jumping jab, diagonal jumping strong, diagonal jumping roundhouse and normals. It is also noteworthy that he is fast enough to react to a jump-in and SRK it. The reflexes and focus to do this is far beyond the abilities of most players, who must rely on prediction (or pure luck).

at Star Cup* with a very strong RTSD strategy before. Futachan’s performance has reminded me of that.

I hope this makes it clear to our fellow members who represented USA at SBO (and the haters, if they exist) that Futachan is really on another league, even beyond damdai. It is no shame to lose a match to him, no matter what character is used. In the casuals that followed the tournament, prior to the first-to-10 between Otochun and Ito, he defeated Tencho every time.

Yeah, Tencho seems really skilled in those combos. The links are harder to do after the aerial attack, and I believe he has actually missed them once, but the enemy has tried whatever thing that lost to the cr.strong punch and got dizzied after the two 2-hit combos he ate, which should be a single 4-hit one.

I have enjoyed D’s performance too. He lost to MAO this time pretty hard, but he was really solid in most matches. If I recall correctly, Komoda did not enter the tournament, but he was there for the casuals too. Kusumondo’s devastating combos were also impressive. Linking cr.short xx HHS from st.str and cr.short x2 xx super were pretty nasty.

*Not Mario Kart, lol

Team 1: Shinomaru (Ryu), H (Blanka), Atomic Boy aka Toutanki (Zangief), Zeme Musician (DJ), PECO (O.Ken), Kawasim (Dhalsim), Hanashi (Fei), Numa (M.Bison), VIPER (Hawk), Keshin (Chun)

Team 2: Kenguro (Blanka), Shin (Hawk), Koemon (Fei), Hiroyan (Hawk), Sashishi (Ryu), Kawamata (Ryu), Emubi? (M.Bison), Nikaiten (M.Bison), Noguchi (Fei), Sasori (Ryu), Ohnuki (Chun)

Whats up with Toutanki ? This is the second time I’ve seen him using Gief. He went MIA from match for a good while and now I see him pop back up with Gief.

Nah he’s been around playing Hawk the entire year before SBO. And he’s been popping up from time to time to play Zangief at various events. Even though you don’t see him in match videos he’s still playing.

Nice finish indeed.

Fun grand finals set between me and cole at NEC12. Ken vs. Dhalsim.
Highlights include hurricane kick into super, some backwards dps, and a short, short, super to close it out.
Check out techmonkeys youtube for all other matches from the tournament, including winners finals of me (o. hawk) vs cole (o. guile, chun, dhalsim) and losers finals between ganelon (claw) and cole (ken, dhalsim).
