Boxer in middle? Are you joking or what? He’s the most deadly / unbalanced super in the game
Well I did put him in the top The only reason that I considered putting him in the middle actually was that in some Japanese vids recently I’ve seen his super get thrown and reversed after the first two hits.
Hmm, i saw that too, sometimes I stopped the super with old honda with the headbutt, but I think (i don’t really know sincerely) this is only a random bug or maybe it happens only with certains chars. Anyway I’ll put the super in the top, cause of the insane damage / insane range.
Peace bro.
Boxer can RRuyIs8sKYw&#t=34s"]get hit or even thrown out his super but that only happens in the corner. If you mistime your counter attack you risk ending up eating the last three hits of the super if you aren’t quick. You can even stop [and block should you whiff the super but this seems more chance than controllable.
Boxer’s super is probably in the top three and is most likely the best super in SSFIIX. Watch uxufYuEkQiw&#t=56s"]this trick](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxyW1c1K4Tc&#t=3m20s"[/media) where Nikaiten does a whiff rush (that builds him a full meter by the way) into super from full screen to blow through a fireball. You can also easily combo into super on both crouching and standing opponents. Notice how Daigo builds meter during the combo as well before finishing the combo with a super. You can if your opponent jumps over you. Factor in Boxer’s super doing ridiculous chip damage, shutting down fireball games completely, and being able to punish whiffed normals from half the screen away, and you have a top level super.
^^^^^ Excellent post. Well done. [Not that you needed my approval ].
Yes, I think it’s fair to say that I had recency bias since I had seen that match where YuuVega threw Boxer’s super after the first two hits. It’s definitely a top tier, awesome super.
Pretty much agreed with Geo’s list. Even though Balrog’s Super can be punished, it’s highly situational and specific and happens quite rarely IMO (just recently was able to throw a player out of it with Sagat, tho I wouldn’t recommend that with Fei or Cammy LOL). It’s still badass, does a shitton of chip and has a LOT of startup invincibility. Dhalsim has a good Super and is tough to punish even from behind, but it goes nowhere, and has the least range of all the Supers. It is quite good though (esp damage-wise). Zangief’s Super I would put in bottom tier tho, almost no range, cannot be NE’d like Hawk tho it does a shitton of damage, but still it’s ass, also has that glitch on cross-unders, definitely bottom. Poor Gief. = (
My list:
Balrog
Vega
Ryu
Chun Li
Dhalsim
Bison
Ken
Cammy
Fei
Guile
Dee Jay
Sagat
Hawk
Blanka
Zangief
Honda
Completely agree that Muteki is the best anti-sim guile. It doesn’t look like a 8-2 matchup to me at all.
He zones so well and know exactly when to throw.
Nuki is unstoppable. He definitely surpassed Otochun even at his prime as the best chun to date.
He basically shutdown all the opponent’s move when it is in his stand mp / c. mk range. All his fights are won within that distance and it requires extremely good reaction and very taxing for him and his opponent.
Nuki / Muteki / Shiki is definitely the favorite of this year’s SBO. If it’s not single elimination, they probably would take it for sure.
Being one of the famous “2D fighting game gods” in Japan, it was only a matter of time before Nuki ascended to the throne in ST. I mean, he was already very, very good in 2003 when he reached the finals of ST at Evo. And again he faced off against Gian in the final at Evo 2005. After facing Nuki in the final, Gian commented that Nuki was surprisingly strong for a non-ST specialist. Asked about his potential, Gian said “he can definitely reach Otochun’s level if he practices this game”.
Ever since he won SBO 2007 with Kurahashi it’s like he’s started taking ST more seriously; probably giving it equal time with 3S practice. And it shows in his increased appearance in recent tourney vids, not to mention wailing on people in general.
I agree with Nuki having basically surpassed Otochun now – I’ve never seen Otochun dominate people quite like Nuki how does, and I chalk it down to the sheer talent that Nuki has at fighting games. As a kid he won Japan’s Alpha 2 nationals in 1996 with Chun as well. It’s like Daigo with Ryu; a player-character match made in heaven.
I recorded a bunch of recent match videos and posted them on my youtube…this is from an American super turbo board on arcade cabinet in Seattle (anyone in the area is ALWAYS welcome, from any skill level, just let me know):

Well, I haven’t seen recent footage of Kansai tops (Tsuji, D, the brothers), so it is hard to tell. I am really waiting for this year’s SBO, and a DVD or the fully available tournament in YT, Nico or whatever. Gotoh was also very solid and I haven’t seen him recently. At first Kurahashi seemed better off with Guile, but now I believe it is beyond doubt he is a force with his (at least previous) sub-char. But I see Gotoh being the better among the two ones, and they still have to prove they can do as well as D against the tops.
Is there any petition or whatever (say, e-mail) we can do to make SBO consider double elimination for ST? The teams are just too good.
Edit: Muteki has the best anti-anything as Guile, IMO. A true N.Guile master.
Lots of back and forth this week. First match sees Yakitori getting 100% perfect reads on his opponent playing Cammy and winning a nearly 1-9 rated match with ease. Insane Fei play all over the place with absurd combos nearly every round and an explosive finish to the Fei mirror. A hilarious exchange in the Ken mirror where the players hit each other with back-to-back supers including one off of a colossal mistake. Kurhashi looking mortal finally in a Ryu mirror. Nuki as usual closing it out.
Someone unplugged the microphone so there is no commentary on the videos.

How do I get a Nico video account? I’ve tried translating the site using Google-translate, and I’ve tried clicking on any links I think are “register” or “login”, but no luck. I would love to watch some of the Nico videos linked but I only get a pic of the video, not the video itself. Maybe there’s another way to view those videos. Any help will be greatly appreciated. :china:
Use the first link and replace the bold part with whatever video you want to watch or use the second link. Nohoho also embeds videos on his blog.

Thanks.
YuuVega entering the fray and pulling off a couple of great wins. Toukun takes over and wins a few until encountering Shin. And while Shin only wins two matches, the match he has against Muneo’s Ryu has quite possibly the most insane ending of any match I’ve seen this year. Do not miss the Hawk versus Ryu match early on in part two. E Fo using Blanka (not sure if I translated that right) goes on a tear of his own. And VIPER closes it out with a trio of wins.

Yeah that’s AFO.
Time for some ST videos…
Up first we have JohnRambo’s illegal shaky cam footage taken live from SBO.
ZaSMnhGk5Qs"]First round matches of team USA versus the Hawk team of K, Toutanki, and Yoshimura. JohnRambo loses to Toutanki, but Ganelon OCVs the Hawk team to get team USA out of the first round. Very light applause for team USA of course. [sees Futachan OCVing team USA with his Ryu though.
Also on JohnRambo’s YouTube channel is a BXwh74EYQsc"]set](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwM2kgRnIjg"[/media) of three videos [John gives his thoughts on the event post SBO finals.
Next we have the top four from SBO SSFIIX with extra commentary from Ken (thanks to Fulaan for pointing these out).
Shiki (BX) Muteki (GU) Ohnuki (CH) vs MAO (CL), Ito (DJ), Futachan (RY)
Sasori (RY) Abebin (HO) Oonishi (DI) vs Danjiri (DH) Inro (O.CH) Tsuji (BX)

And finally some team battle action. The sound is super loud on these matches for me. Microphone was fixed so we get commentary this week but turn your headphones down. Tons of incredible footsies this week. Seems like Ryu was really popular as well.

Danjiri used ume close RH twice and used close MP to beat ehonda butt slam just like what we discussed recently in the sim thread.
I thought muteki is super lucky to have a hot wife who plays ST at high level. I didn’t know Inro is that attractive too (they are both hotter than choco blanka, sorry momchi). And she got a perfect round, with o chun!
If she is not married, all these jp ST nerds should fight FT10 for her. Living in japan + a hot wife that goes to arcade with you? Fuck yes.
And this french ken bogrard commentator is really hype. if i just listen i would think it is a soccer match on spanish channel lol
Watched the vids of the finals. Shiki was a bit unlucky in his match to have . Ito very clearly outplayed Nuki though, good stuff on his part. Single elimination is brutal, in some ways it makes SBO less of a tournament and more like an exhibition. I guess in that sense it’s easier to take a loss, especially considering how quickly ST games can be over with one mistake, and the inherent random nature of single elim.
Biran (Ganelon) did really well, he played very focused to take out Toutanki/K/Yoshimura. I’m sure when he gets back we can look forward to his thoughts on the match and the trip to Japan overall.
I also watched JohnRambo’s BXwh74EYQsc"]vlogs about his SBO thoughts. Hard to not feel kinda bad for the dude as he seems pretty bummed about his performance – but hey, it’s single elim, and shit just happens so fast. It’s brutal, and I think many foreign ST players have had a harsh awakening upon facing the level of competition in Japan, especially at arcades like Mikado and More Amusement (see for example Prof Jones’ ).
His comment about really having to stay in that tough environment echo a lot of previous visitor’s thoughts – hyperbolic time chamber and all that. It can be disheartening to think that staying there to level up really isn’t an option (hey, not all of us can be Sabin with his “SF4 Stimulus Package”). I remember when many Australian players visited Japan to play 3S, they reported feeling somewhat discouraged seeing the skill gap, experiencing the game played to its limit and knowing you don’t have that kind of environment back home. Others, like Graham Wolfe, get more motivated to stay competitive, I guess. Different people react to it differently. I’m planning on visiting Japan myself in December, and I have no illusions about what to expect anymore.
Wow, I’m rambling off-topic, so I’ll stop now.
