The ST match vids + discussion thread

It is indeed sad that most those matches are gone. I think that is not the best word for it, though. As far as we know, much of their scene is based on players who spend a lot of money on arcades and play in tournaments with either minimal prizes or none at all. It seems some things are done in an amateurish way, but they must not have big funds to work with: much of the stuff seems to depend on personal initiative.

If a was Mattsun’s friend I would tease on him forever, anyway.

Well Nohoho wrote on his blog recently, “Although most of the X-Mania 10 footage is gone, Mattsun seems to have conjured up the video for X-Mania 9 and X-Mania 8. Stay tuned?” so hopefully we might be seeing some high level X-Mania footage make its way to the masses.

Man that sim player in those vids is scrubby as hell!

Edit: on a serious note though Chris Doyle is one of the best Chuns that you don’t know, I wish he was able to travel more to get his name more well known like it deserves.

:annoy::nono::annoy:

I’m interested in getting some ST match vid DVDs in the future… anyone got any hints on the best way to buy all the old Xmanias, SBOs, etc?

Also VF vids too, but any 2D fighter really.

Chubu vs. Kansai - [ 17 versus 17 ]

First link is the preview article from Nohoho’s blog outlining what the event is. The idea is supposed to be a regional competition with a full roster of characters representing each side. Neither team was able to field a complete set of character so they had duplicates where necessary.

Each link here is 15 minutes (must be the time limit). There are six parts total. The way the stream was configured is fantastic. You’ll see it when you click the video obviously, but they have a direct line monitor for the match, two cameras capturing each team’s reaction throughout the event, and a diagram taken from the character select screen that they update when someone loses. Pretty cool stuff.

Most of that stuff is on YouTube, Nico Video, or Zoome. Any DVD you buy is going to be used and it’s going to go for a lot of money. I’d recommend saving your money and just getting your fix on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/user/ogikage#g/u <- hundreds of VF matches from VF3 to VF5R
http://www.youtube.com/user/theshend?blend=1&ob=4#g/u <- the best 3S video resource around
http://www.zachd.com/mvc2/ <- massive MvC2 footage archive, also has a nice amount of other games as well

YouTube has CvS2, KOF, even SFII:CE channels. Buying old DVDs of tournaments will break your wallet pretty quickly.

:hitit::karate:

Thanks a bunch for these. Good performances from ShootingD, HAS, Oh!!J, Nero, Ito and Tsuji. BTW, Futachan messed up when he was about to finish Tsuji. I was expecting top tiers destroying everyone, like most those 15 or something team videos NH2 has posted recently, but it wasn’t like that. Only Gotoh vs Danjiri was painful.

I agree about the presentation. Very well done. Both team members celebrating each blow was also nice. Too bad it couldn’t happen at a large room with spectators for more hype.

Thanks for posting this.

I have nohoho’s site on my rss feed but he didn’t post the direct recorded links so if not for your post I would have missed this.

Damn I can’t believe the showdown is fought to last 17th vs 17th.

Someone should make subtitles for these.

It seemed they were having such a good time and I’d love to know what they are talking about.

[edit: nh2 will possibly be adding subs to ST video, yes!]

Can someone post here if there is a stream or recorded video for the upcoming

http://x-5on5.com/

?

Since NH2 is currently in hibernation, we need someone else that is well versed in japanese ST websites to dig those links out.

BTW, I used google translate to read that page and the entry fee is $5 per person while the top team each member will win $6 -_-

I’m just curious but can anyone link me to some footage showcasing why ST akuma is broken and banned from tournaments?

I remember reading and seeing a vid why he was banned years ago. In the right hands he is unbeatable, less Akuma vs Akuma. lol

double post

there’s some footage on youtube of inoki using akuma at x-mania 3

seriously, how is gief supposed to win in this matchup

I couldn’t navigate to the live streaming site from x5-5.com but finally I found the gian recital matches on youtube accidentally from the ssf4 forum

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=videos&search_query=2010+0503+第6回+Gian+Recital+SF2X闘劇&search_sort=video_date_uploaded&suggested_categories=20&page=2

sorted by upload date. so view from the last video and work your way back

there’s a 5x hawk team (lots of awesome action there)
and also a team of monster
???(Guile) ???(Ken) ???(Blanka) ??(??)??(M.Bison)
muteki, matsu, komoda, nuki, shiki

enjoy

[PS does anyone know if the full bracket is posted somewhere in the Japanese sites?]

if you get the opponent in the corner, his red fireballs do so much hitstun that even if they’re blocked, he can keep you locked there until he kills you by chip damage (or he misses a FB). can’t say i’ve actually seen it in action though

Videos of my matches from Midwest Championships 2010:

Thanks, man. Have more matches been recorded?

Regards!
