Awesome matches! How I miss the days of arcade competition. I wish there was a ST cab that was within a… hrm, I don’t think one exists in Oregon. Damn :frowning:

dsp sucks as

^ So you can beat him?

Those were all great matches especially the last one dream’s fei is redunkulous he rushed that shit down, walked under, and wing trapped WONG USING O.SAGAT good shit:tup:

Can somebody look at that Chun vs. Damdai/Zangief match and tell me if there’s something in particular that Chun is doing wrong?

I’ve played that same match on 2DF against Damdai a couple times. I did a little better (eventually), but could never actually win two rounds in a row. His Zangief is some kind of phenomenon. Damdai’s a technician with that lariat - He would stay just outside of range, almost perfectly. It really shut me down.

NKI you’re my hero, I would have liked to see Shag use a little more anti-air against those lightning legs to see what else you would have done, though.

Looking forward to more match videos from the event! That was some solid ST.

I’m sorry dude but I’m a little slow. How do you antiair lightning legs if they are on the ground ?

That’s not you. You’re an imposter.

Balrog’s headbutt (his anti-air) and cammy’s cannon spike (her anti-air) both have enough reach to cut through lightning legs, if I’m not mistaken. I play chun mostly, and that’s what tends to make me stop using lightning legs. Just use the right strength of punch to reach. I’d have to watch the match again, but I think I remember not many buffalo headbutts.

The wiki says a balrog jump in against lightning legs has to hit early enough to allow Chun a free throw when you land. NKI is probably on-point enough to get it. However, lots of players won’t have the timing right, so it might still be worth using sometimes. In the first round, you land a jump in against lightning legs with no retaliation. (0:28)

Somebody better than me can probably give you more info, or maybe there’s some discussion about it in the 'Rog thread already. In general, I think the idea is: if you’re far, jump in against lightning legs (range is probably tricky). If you’re too near to jump over, headbutt through.

The other plan is to just do whatever it takes to build meter. Headbutt through fireballs at full screen 'till you get your super. Chun won’t try lightning legs much if you’ve got a super.

It’s definitely not an easy match, but don’t give up. Try to be the best. 'Cause you’re only a man, and a man’s gotta learn how to take it. Try to believe when the going gets rough, that you gotta hang tough to make it.

WUT

<---------------------- *points at location

1.) Don’t purposely get close to Zangief
2.) Don’t do random spinning bird kicks
3.) Don’t throw out unnecessary pokes that can get swept or lariated
4.) Do more fireballs

Fair enough. 1 and 2 are pretty obvious.

3 and 4 are hard for me, although I don’t know if there’s any real solution except to just play better. I guess it’s just that playing against Gief, it seems like a lot of pokes are necessary to try to keep him back. Mostly cr.MK is what I default to; if there’s a better poke against Gief, let me know. I tend to throw in the occasional sweep, too.

Otherwise, I throw as many fireballs as I can without being too predictable. If gief jumps over one of the fireballs and gets in on me, it seems like things can go south pretty quickly. Damdai is amazing at hanging just outside of poke range with his lariats, waiting for the chance to jump in and start hurting me, or get through a fireball with a lariat. That’s the range where I really have trouble.

I guess one of my biggest problems is dealing with Zangief in the air with Chun. Air-to-air, I’ll almost always win with MK if I jump early enough, but not if I’m late. But if I jump and Gief doesn’t, it seemed like Damdai would frequently nail me with a lariat -> jump in on wake up -> pain. I didn’t want to jump towards, because that’s doing Gief’s job for him. I don’t want to jump back, because Gief will just walk up and I’m closer to the corner. So that leaves verticals. Does vert HK always beat lariat, if timed correctly? Should I be using a vert LK, mixing it up, or is there a reason to use non-vert jumps? It could be the key to the match for me.

But without jumping, that left normals, fireballs, and upkicks when Gief jumps in. Fireball (trade) seemed like the reliable choice, and NKI says he prefers it in the wiki, but Damdai was very consistent, and the damage is almost 2x in gief’s favor, so you can’t keep doing it unless you’re doing lots of good damage and chip in between trades. I had bad luck with upkicks and normals, but maybe I’ve been going about it wrong. Any tips for when Gief jumps in on Chun?

I think I’ve got the right idea but I just have to do better toe-to-toe against 'Gief or else the plan doesn’t work. (Plan is harass with fireballs and cr. MK, and go for the knockdown whenever possible to push Gief back further and get an additional pixel of chip)

Thanks for the advice, I figured out that Rog’s buffalo goes through the legs later in the day.

About the jump-in against LL at :028, hell I was just happy to get a hit. I play Technical Monkey (Chris Doyle) all the time and he usually has up-kicks stored while doing LL and hits me with it while I try to jump in. I was also fearful of Chun’s super, I wasn’t sure I hit deep enough to combo. NKI’s next move was Chun’s super which made me happy because I could get back on the offensive.

^^^^^ Thanks fo the matches! Blanka!!! F*cking love it!

Great matches. The NKI vs. Damdai match really illustrates the problems I was having against damdai’s zangief.

So do you think that the same advice applies? What is NKI doing wrong? Zangief gets tons of Jump in -> sweeps, which is death for Chun. But you can see that most of the time it’s because NKI goes for the anti-air so that he can avoid an SPD and establish some distance. Is NKI’s timing bad, or is this just a really rough match for Chun?

My match with damdai is a good example of what Chun should not be doing. Aside from technical errors (missing reversals and even entire moves), I did some pretty retarded stuff like attempted walk-up throw.

Not sure what was wrong with me, but that whole weekend, I was playing pretty poorly.

And I’m not trying to take anything away from damdai. Dude is a monster - best Gief in the US, if ya ask me.

I think late jumping strong (Boxer) is better than headbutts against lightning legs unless you’re retarded close.
