They basically made everyone a better Ken in Season 2.
I much prefer this season over last. Refreshing to see other characters shine over the same ol’, same ol’ imo.

Down with shotos. Yorkey would approve.

I never get this. Why does changing the characters who wins matter? If having a different character all the time mattered let’s just make tournaments into a raffle where we pick a number and choose the winner. You’ll always get a different character.
I want to see good gameplay. And sometimes having an underdog character is more interesting than a flavor of the month rotation.

The increase in variety of characters is pretty good too.
Though, 3 Ibukis in a row today… finally people are catching on.
Better get to downplaying @“DevilJin 01” , Capcom might be watching the ninja soon…

It was likely a change made for consistency with military characters in SF. We don’t call Guile by his first name.
I thought Guile was his first name
now you’re telling me he’s Mr. Guile?

I’ll see if I can dig out my post but what you guys are describing I called out just after the first month of the game. It’s not a mistake how anything works in SF5, it’s been very carefully thought out by someone with a design goal in mind. Combofiend wasn’t wrong when he said the game was about commitment. It’s whether you accept or enjoy that playstyle and the reason again is so that the games feel closer and also something that Daigo said - people just want to push buttons.
The basic model of SF5 is to make it deliberately hard to react so you have to pre-empt which in turn allows CC to flourish and the answer to Crush counters is to jump… then it just works in a circular motion from there.
In early S1 you could easily make the case you had to commit. Which is fine. The problem is that it feels like some characters have to commit while others get to just do what they want till it works.
There were characters that broke the commitment thing to some degree even in Season 1. Safe on block stuff that lead to solid situations for a character. That’s why Chun Li is actually a committal character now and is not where she was before when IALL was the thing to do when you were in a bind.

We all called it out. However most of us were hoping we were wrong and just didn’t know the game well enough. To misquote DJ but get his basic jist at the time:
“cmon guys, we all know games have no depth at the beginning of their lifespan but every streetfighter has some grimy depth to be learned later on once shit gets figured out”
Or some such.
For me though, about crush counters, my answer is to block them not jump them. That’s why I hate plus on block CC’s that have good range… luckily those are few and far between.
I feel like Punk kinda brings up my point that optimized Karin is something that not many people are capable of as far as execution and spacing. He also is able to control the neutral and whiff punish in a way where he doesn’t seem concerned with dashes and CC’s. All of the stuff that bothers SFIV players doesn’t seem to bother him. At this point Karin’s only weakness doesn’t even bother him anymore which is scary.
There just MIGHT be something wrong with a game when only the top 5 players in the world make it look like an actually fun competitive game.
The only players I actually really like to see play over and over again, are punk, smug and idom. Everyone else makes the game look as bad as it plays, but they usually have some gimmick or strategy that is interesting for a few rounds… I.E. LPN. Or iwate.

No. You would only call him Mr. Guile if he were a civilian.
That’s Major Guile to you.
Shit, or is it Captain Guile.
Fuck, or Colonel Guile?
William F. Guile. His name is Guile.
Or Bill, or if he’s your buddy, Billy.
Yeah, call him Billy.
Oh, don’t call him Will, or Willy. He doesn’t like that.
But he does like American coffee. Weak, weak ass coffee.
Fucking Billy, I love you Billy.

Semantics really. They can both more than likely take sets from anyone in the world, punk included. They might not be top 5 on Friday, but they might be on Saturday as an example.
The only players that have really made a case for definitely top 5 material are probably DU and punk.
Everyone else has matchup and player issues that can knock them out.
BTW since I don’t need to hide the tech any more. If you don’t know about Ibuki’s LK DP being a meterless reversal time to learn it.

Maybe it’s like the Mario movie and it’s Guile Guile.
Kinda in the mood to play some Alpha 3 tonight. Maybe dip in some World Tour Mode. Take a break from SFV for a bit.
I kinda want to play SC2 online.

Yo teach me how to play that game. I have it on Fightcade but it felt weird so I haven’t put more than 5 minutes into it…

Fuudo is probably a pretty safe top 5 bet as well
Lol, I need to download Fightcade one of these days. I keep forgetting to do that.
I have the Alpha Anthology collection on PS2 and the PS1 version of Alpha 3.

Yeah, but there are others as well like xian, Xiao hai, haitani, phenom that are arguable.
If Xian did as well as he did with a character as shit as Fang, moving up to Ibuki will probably have in top 5 and his former glory pretty soon.

Best thing about Alpha 3 and SF Collections 1 & 2 on PS1 is that you can run those discs in almost RGB on a PS3 and use your modern fightstick.
They really need to do an anniversary collection with on-line though.
