I get the feeling that they will be buffing Bison up a bit, but I’m not really sure that that’s necessary. If they just did one or two simple things, increase sk damage a bit, make dr a little less dumb on whiff (I’m seriously tired of trying to position myself with this move only to eat some stupid move while bison sits there after landing), probably a better psycho crusher (just because he’s Bison). I dunno, if even one of those things gets in, Bison becomes a more formidable force. I’m a little worried when I see long lists of requests.
well like the interviews that r coming out pount out, this is going 2 a really defensive game. So im confident we going 2 see some progress from the old man. Not 2 leave out that the release is pushed back, i just hope they balance it enough where a mid/low teir can come out and win tournaments
1.) EX DR does not armor break. it does two hits. thats not the same thing. People absorb the first hit and backdash and punish ALL day against me. Shit don’t work.
If it should have armor break properties, it should be legit. If someone is reading that shit it’s perfectly punishable. Jumping at the right time in front of dictator will make headstomp whiff completely and you can swat him out of the air once his little invuln wears off to get him off the ground. Once he’s up there it doesnt matter if its a stomp or a DR, you’ll eat a normal, a normal for chirssake.
Also, fuck avoiding DR by doing crouch X move. It’s sickening. Hitbox needs to be much much better. I think I feel the pain of a Blanka getting jabbed out of his roll. Shit like that makes no sense.
2.) Psychocrusher has no use outside of 7-3s or 6-4s or the Balrog/Fuerte matchup.
3.) EX still sucks. Can be thrown out of, can be beaten by normals, the hitbox blows, etc. Just make it so that EX or even regular psychocrusher can be used as an anti-air. If someone jumps and I psychocrusher below them and they land on me, a normal should not beat or trade with me imo. I don’t care if its shoto’s god jumping roundhouse, shits absurd.
I keep saying it over and over again, but Beta Bison would be slightly more of a threat than current bison without being anywhere near broken. knowing what we all know now about the game. I don’t really think Capcom is going to show him much love in this iteration. He doesnt need the attention like Guile or Vega who are going to get the main buff treatment for sure since everyone, including people who don’t even play vega or guile, know how rough they’ve got it as characters. Hell I don’t even mind the stupid 7-3 or 8-2 or whatever the fuck the matchup is with Guile since he sucks so much and I killed his best friend on top of it all. Bison could stand to be better for sure but he’s not so terrible that he will certainly get important buffs. I could see them passing him over easily.
P.S. In that one blog they say they feel Lord Vega’s pain, but then someone here said that they were referring to claw. Since when the hell did Claw get referred to as Lord? Maybe dude just wasn’t thinking, but if the translation kept the original names, then they should probably at least know that he needs a bit of work. There is a sliver of purple hope.
Bison has 7-3’s?
Gen, Claw, Me with meter and Fuerte without any.
… No shit? I thought his only 7 was Dan, and that’s a given.
Personally I’m not seeing it. I’d understand 6-4 against Claw but 7? I main both and I don’t see why this would be the case.
lol. i edited my post and threw a meterless fuerte in there. thats exactly why regular psychocrusher blows. it has use only in stupid matchups that aren’t all that tough for everyone (on paper). and btw, Gen is a beast, just not against Bison, there’s plenty of high level Gen comp here and it’s really sad how hard they have to work against Bison and they still lose.
EDIT: to avoid double posting.
I’d say Dan is a 6-4. A beastly Dan is tougher for me than a beastly Gen to be perfectly honest and there are plenty of both here in korea.
-Gen: beasted in the corner, meter or not. no escape. and if he does he’ll just end up back there. Perfect links, whatever, it doesn’t matter. He can FADC shit but not when he’s wasting meter trying to get out of the corner and then getting punished for it. He’s got okay footsies but Dictator’s are better. Roundhouse is great for this match unlike say against Blanka or many shotos where its rendered useless as an anti-air. In general its just because his escape options are punished in the corner by a smart Bison and Bison has a better ground game and doesn’t need to jump in to win the match. Gen takes the risk of eating a boot in doing so everytime.
-Claw: what does claw do when he’s in the corner? die. backflip to get out of pressure? insta-punish and untechable knockdown. Wants to poke? I poke back. Specials are mostly unsafe. My main special is. He’s got some gimmicks to confuse you but other than that everything else he does you can see a mile away and punish. I hope he gets better so I can main all of Shadaloo. I’ll pick up Sagat if he gets nerfed a bit, but right now Seth is my only secondary.
all I want is less trading on his moves/more priority, a decent ultra and the option to turn off DP shortcuts he’s a pretty solid character though!
THIS!
I swear Dictator’s cr.HP is probably one of the most useless moves in the game!
I would love it if it was faster and work great as an AA.
I would love his EX SK to be safer, its a great move to go through fireballs if you time it, but it sucks that you are wide open for an attack if they block it.
If I were to wishlist, I’d ask for a slightly better range on j.mp to make it easier to land since it’s one of the few things we can effectively use to combo into ultra, but that’s just me.
On the whole though, if Capcom were to hire Laudanum09 to fix Bison, I think I’d be thrilled.
^ nah you give me too much credit. i am however pretty confident in my play after living in korea for a damn year and dealing with the ridiculous, mini-japan comp here. poongko helped me level up so much its insane, and it was by LOTS of losing. i dont even have fun with this game anymore haha, i just sweat bullets against the entire cast, but i guess its masochistic fun. I don’t really buy the tier list shit because of how much insane stuff i’ve seen from sleeper characters. only exceptions are claw and gen
another suggestion that i couldnt get any feeback for a few pages back: since its so easy to swat bison out of EX DR and EX stomp, thus making the invulnerability frames almost useless, give them EX ARMOR. if EX DR is an escape tool then let me get out without being swatted out of the damn air by friggin jumping jabs and shorts. Its not giving him a free hit since I wouldnt be able to activate punch and hit you if youre smart anyways. its giving him a proper escape tool if thats what its really supposed to be meant for. screw better headstomp tracking or whatever, im sick of getting crouch fierced and getting an EX stomp beaten.
on another note, bison’s cr. fierce is actually pretty good against shotos. is my go to anti air when theyre being predictable. i think bison players are finding more uses for it now but thats just because we gotta use everything we got.
also i short changed gen. his ground game and damage is great, its just that hes going to end up in the corner eventually and it doesnt matter how low on health i am, he dies there. OT though, my bad.
Don’t sleep on Dan. He has decent frame traps and a DP!
^ i cant tell if youre joking but thats exactly why you shouldnt sleep on dan. Gen at the top of their game is an easier matchup imo than taking on a serious Dan. Against Bison he’s got better corner pressure, no joke.
The fact is that it used to be a good move to press the advantage with in ST because both it and headstomp were hella fast. Well it “reversed” a lot slower but it could reverse on either side of the opponent which made it decent. It was still punishable but you could catch someone off guard. In SF4 it is basically impossible for you to land a DR/HS on someone who knows how to deal with it.
Yeah, they need to fix PC in some way. Honestly, it all stems from a fundamentally bad design in SF2. PC and Scissor Kick were both cool moves but really, they didn’t serve any unique purpose in regards to each other. Both were quick, advancing offensive moves that required a charge back and controlled the horizontal space of the playing field. So in Alpha they decided to deal with this by making PC a super move instead. Subsequent games reverted back, however, and you can tell that the devs wanted to put PC in but didn’t really know what to do with it…so they did…nothing. As you said, it seems to be in the game just for nostalgic reasons and doesn’t have much of a purpose. In any situation where you might think of using PC, Scissors is probably a better option.
Changing the move to be a full-fledged anti-air makes the most sense, but then you have the people that argue that Bison shouldn’t have/doesn’t need a great anti-air special and its part of his design in SF4. IMO short of changing the move drastically to be anti-air (diagonal?) reg PC should function the way EX currently does.
I gotta take Laudanum’s side on this one…bisons DR is absolutely pointless unless your opponent is an idiot and jumps or is airborne (in which case u may be able to steer at them and hit em). Even as chip damage at round end its insanely dangerous.
Too easy to just focus/punish or focus/avoid. Too easy to punish with various characters (Sagat Tiger Shots, Akuma Raging Demon, etc). Crossovers with it are virtually impossible to pull off. It needs armor break. None of this “add extra hits” nonsense. And more blockstun too (or faster recovery).
100% agree. The fact that shoto’s can use cMK as a fucking AA tool is retarded. Some characters have none, and some have twelve.
I only use it in combos when I feel like seeing purple stuff and NOT having good positition afterwards. And for chip damage. Also, when characters jump backwards at round start I use it. Aside from that, it’s fucking horrible. And I mean TERRIBLY horrible. Giefs RBG is less fucking horrible.
EX PC was awesome a few months ago until people figured out how butt fucking simple it is to deal with. Block and punish. Depending on spacing, opponent may need to throw tech, but that’s about it. Getting it through fireballs is fucking random at times, and Ex SK is just plain better than it.
Not trying to be a Dic here (lousy pun intended), but all most people know about Beta Bison was that his PC was a hell of a lot better. I figure he will get his lame ass paint the fence special, and they will just adjust his hitboxes on DR, and PC, and HS. And yes, I do think those adjustments will help.
Still holding out that they increase his target combo priority and change njMP to something people would ACTUALLY use.
too busy with Christmas stuff to find the quote, but somebody asked if they were going to fix Bison. And the developers referred to him as Lord Vega. They were NOT talking about Claw, they were talking about Bison.
As I said, I really feel he will get a decent push in SSFIV
Psycho Crusher can easily be made to have different purposes to SK. As an anti-air for example.
^ wurd comrade. i mean that literally, love your lenin xbl pic. anyways, yeah beta bison just had a great PC from everything I’ve read, like CE great. maybe not THAT great, but it was something. Honestly if that’s all we got it’d up his game for sure. i guess my point was that it sucks that they nerfed something that WASNT even close to OP in the first place. people whined and capcom listened. i think they get the message at this point so at least we can be pretty sure that it will return.
some days im cynical, some days not so much. we’ll see. its a long ways away really, and yeah thats interesting prof21 thinking about the way he’s changed throughout the games and why. for some reason though all this ‘everyone will get buffed’ talk just seems empty, but i guess that’s just cuz we haven’t seen anything yet. guile, abel, and ken seemed no different and if theyre already this far along we know those three have no new moves except for greater forward reach with flashkick. i guess this means that he’ll just whiff completely instead of getting reset with a crossup.
anyways, back to working on seth. must satisfy boss fetish.
edit: yeah frame tweaks will not be noticeable from just footage, especially with players playing the way they did during that famitsu deal. gosh that was awful to watch. i really hope that’s not type of play they use to run balance tests or the type of people they use for selective loketests. that was just terrible.
laudanum, i get my 360 back in less than 24 hours (after it being broken since summer), so I can start devoting more time to SFIV again. I’d be happy to teach you some things with Seth.
I dunno man this guy is Korean.
