surgery, recommended not to go outside and instead I have lie in bed all day or i could injure myself, which just leads me to spamming message boards all day. Also because i’m not supposed to be driving since i’m on pain killers and they make me really sleepy and out of it
except i couldn’t find a ride to the doctor’s today so i drove there and no one at the office said anything, go figure
Kevin Costner sucked in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves but Alan Rickman was great as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Alan Rickman is probably the only good thing about that movie. Morgan Freeman is just random token black sidekick.
I think the reason why lots of 80’s sci-fi/action flicks >>> 90s and beyond is because CGI was still in it’s infancy, forcing movies to use puppets/animatronics/etc (like in Aliens). This gave the movie/creatures a “real” look to it. Compare the creatures from Aliens to Alien 3 (most shots were CGI, few were animatronics), you’ll see what I’m talking about. God I wish movies would stop using CGI in every single scene.
Since Rsigley was talking about Eli Roth, I was browsing the Wikipedia and found this quote…
I f***ing love that book. Such a smart take on the zombie movie. I am so psyched to do it. I think you can really do almost a cross between the Dawn of the Dead remake with a ‘Roland Emmerich’ approach (for lack of a better reference) where you show it happening all over the world. When the pulse hits, I wanna see it hit EVERYWHERE. In restaurants, in movie theaters, at sports events, all the places that people drive you crazy when they’re talking on their cell phones. I see total armageddon. People going crazy killing each other - everyone at once - all over the world. Cars smashing into each other, people getting stabbed, throats getting ripped out. The one thing I always wanted to see in zombie movies is the actual moment the plague hits, and not just in one spot, but everywhere. You usually get flashes of it happening around the world on news broadcasts, but you never actually get to experience it happening everywhere. Then as the phone crazies start to change and mutate, the story gets pared down to a story about human survival in the post-apocalyptic world ruled by phone crazies. I’m so excited, I wish the script was ready right now so I could start production. But it’ll get written (or at least a draft will) while I’m doing Hostel 2, and then I can go right into it. It should feel like an ultra-violent event movie
That makes me happy, specifically the “I want to show the part where the plague hits everywhere”, that is exactly what I’ve been wanting in a zombie movie forever.
I’ll see that movie specifically for that scene alone.
i ended up watching Weeds Season 1 instead. It’s a pretty good show. The first couple of episodes seem like a mess, but it gets better. It seems like in the first two episodes they’re like, hey we’re on Showtime we can curse, so they just curse randomly and it doesn’t work.
I read the dvd isn’t in the proper aspect ratio tho, so grab the blu ray instead, it’s in 1.78:1
Saw “The Simpsons Movie” finally. I thought it was pretty good. Some really funny parts for sure, it’s like they’ve been saving their good material for this movie and giving the show mostly medicore stuff. I guess that makes sense though. I cried a little when Marge’s tape recording for Homer was being played… so sad.
another aspect ratio scare is the new Criterion The Last Emperor box set. The cinematographer is this nutjob Italian guy that wants to cut everything down to a 2:1 ratio. It might not be that bad as Bernado Bertollucci said that the cut aspect ratio actually improves the appearance of the film so the boxset includes the theatrical cut in the og ratio and the director’s cut in the nutty italian dudes 2:1 ratio. I already have the director’s cut in the og ratio so I do not really mind.
weeds season 2 is good, but it starts to lose some of it’s comedy feel…i’m waiting for season 3 to hit dvd - i hear it makes a big shift there, one that has turned some fans away…
Watched The Last Legion…Shallow characters, bad casting, corny dialogue, cheezy music…I ended up spooning my asian wife…After that the movie was pretty good…4 out 10…
double post - pg, have you heard anything about a seven samurai remake?!? i saw something on imdb, but imdb is about as reliable as fox news for the truth…
a japanese remake maybe. they are doing a lot of kurosawa remakes in japan, I remember a remake of Sanjuro being at this past year’s american film market
